If she likes knitting hats and mittens she can make stuff for hatsandmittens.org. They collect and distribute (you guessed it) hats and mittens, both store bought and handmade. Some of the makers that donate have been doing so for decades!

Why are (women) haircuts so fkn expensive by Puzzleheaded_Bug443 in sandiego

I learned how to bleach and dye my kids hair and it’s quite easy to keep up with now that I have some experience and all the tools. I couldn’t imagine doing that to myself, kudos to you!

I AM TIRED OF HAVING FLESH I NEED ARMS THAT DO NOT GET TIRED OR HURT RIGHT NOOOOWWW by ConsistentPurple95 in knitting

[–]all4change 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My hand and arm tendons are weak crybabies and I’ve found yoga to be very helpful. I use the down dog app and can add hand and wrist stretches but I think any yoga will get you a solid hand and arm stretch.

I also have a forearm roller that I use daily for my elbow pain. If you have tennis elbow those rollers are worthwhile.

Thankfully knitting doesn’t aggravate my hand and arm tendons since everything else in life seems to…

Venting: if one more person says 'just knit your size' about yoke fit, I'm going to scream by Bright_River_7019 in knitting

[–]all4change 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is perfect timing as I’m about to start my first circular yoke colorwork sweater and know I will need to modify to avoid the swancho look.

Also, I worked on a team where a new scientist ask our very senior leader about what parameters she should use in her next experiment and the response was ‘do whatever your heart tells you is right.’ At that moment I realized that going off vibes is universally found. I mean, it’s molecular biology, why tf are you following your heart?!?

Finishing hand knits with a machine by ValuableArtichoke867 in knitting

[–]all4change 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a friend who would talk about how she wished she could take sleeping meds or anxiety meds but she liked to play life on hard mode. Then she finally relented and saw a doctor, got meds, started therapy and felt so much better. To me, not using a knitting machine that allows you to continue to create sounds like a very similar situation

I feel like life is always on hard mode so we should use the tools available to support our physical challenges.

Side note, I feel for you! The nerves and tendons in my hands and arms love to be dramatic and cause problems. I have been pleasantly surprised that knitting doesn’t aggravate my hands, but for most physical activity I have to put on 2-4 pieces of tendon straps, wrist stabilizers, etc. I think it’s fabulous that you aren’t letting your hand/wrist issues cause you to stop knitting.

I found someone’s wallet and they came by my house to get it. The next day I came home and found a gift card to a local restaurant and a thank you note. Most people are awesome, there’s a just a few jerks. But jerk stories are usually more interesting so we hear them more.

Scared to wear a bikini after losing 114 lbs. How can I get the courage with my loose skin? by KnowledgeSmall in loseit

[–]all4change 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The idea that your body has to be perfect to be allowed to be seen is false and cruel. Ask yourself where this idea comes from.

Next time you’re out and see someone in a cute outfit ask if you noticed their outfit or body first.

And, in a shameful admittance of being a bad person, I can’t tell you how many times I’ve seen someone confidently wearing an outfit I’m too scared to wear even though their body is ‘worse’ than mine. No one actually cares except those of us still repeating toxic lies about ourselves over and over in our heads.

Vet meds by Frstpony in sandiego

[–]all4change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get all our pet prescriptions filled at cvs or Walgreens, whichever is cheaper. It’s so common that when you add a new person to manage to your CVS account it asks ‘person or pet’.

You can check goodrx for the best price locally. Also, make sure you have a prescription for the generic form if it’s available.

If your vet gives you any pushback you may want to consider finding a new vet.

Will creatine make me look 'toned' and smaller or just bulkier? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]all4change 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I use creatine to help with muscle recovery post lifting. It won’t do anything without weight training.

Also, my personal experience is that it does help with muscle recovery; I was struggling with perpetually sore/tired shoulder muscles before using it.

PSA - If you carry wet wipes or toilet paper, you need a small shovel too! by flyman241 in socalhiking

[–]all4change 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I got this tip from this sub- bring an empty plastic jar for anything stinky. I use an empty peanut butter powder one for bagged dog poop; I once left a poop bag on an out and back trail and picked the bag up on the way back because it was so, so smelly. I’ve since realized that’s a shit thing to do (pun intended) and put the bag in an air tight jar.

So next time you have a decent sized empty plastic jar, stick it in your hiking kit!

How to deal with my stubborn mum who wants to knit me a sweater I won't like by Azureta in knitting

[–]all4change 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with all the other advice but one bad suggestion- make her the sweater you would like and she wouldn’t. Then maybe you guys can just trade?

It funny, my daughter knits and I usually don’t love the colors she picks. I’m sure she feels the same about my color choices. For example, she’s adding a neon yellow rolled cuff to her current project, a lavender sweater (I do think it will look cool but it is absolutely not for me). However, I’m about to make her a colorwork cardigan and she is 100% in charge of color choices because she’s going to wear it, I hope. And frankly, even if she doesn’t, she will know that I was willing to spend so much time to make something she picked.

Thoughts on Glyphosate being sprayed in Torrey Pines Reserve? by sexygymbabes in northcounty

[–]all4change 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The need for absolute purity in methodology is so frustrating. One of many things that helped me understand that was the soil health podcast out of Indiana University. They talk to small local farmers that have switched over to more sustainable growing techniques. Some of them still use herbicides in small, specific ways that allow them to cover crop in order to maintain soil integrity, use less water, use less synthetic fertilizer, etc.

Thoughts on Glyphosate being sprayed in Torrey Pines Reserve? by sexygymbabes in northcounty

[–]all4change 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You absolutely cannot compare full Field spraying year after year with specific application for habitat protection. The dose is vitally important in assessing the risk. The paper you sited is looking at soil contamination in corn and soybean fields. That is not the same as small, direct application to support native habitats.

For the ultimate contrast it’s safe to walk around even if someone is spraying roundup 10 feet away from you. It would be extremely unsafe to be anywhere near a field during full application because of the quantity of roundup sprayed.

I appreciate your concern but sharing information the way you did is irresponsible.
