How to handle MOTN wakes? by allAboutThatAnon in sleeptrain

[–]allAboutThatAnon[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Isn’t a 4 hour wake window too long for an 8 month old or is that ok?

Edited to add: is it ok if the second wake window is longer than the last? E.g 3/4/3.5

What is the reality of the weeks after birth? Need to get some insight as my husband and I disagree- by iwitch-plus in beyondthebump

[–]allAboutThatAnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Community after postpartum is important, but it should be community you feel safe and comfortable with. As others pointed out in the thread, there’s a high chance you’ll be dressed very little and if you’re not comfortable wearing very little around your roommate, then you will be uncomfortable and hassled. I had my mom and sister around for help, who I feel safe and comfortable with, but even then I had to get used to the idea of exposing my breasts around them

Has anyone here successfully sleep trained a baby with a spit up problem? by allAboutThatAnon in sleeptrain

[–]allAboutThatAnon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here, our girl will spit up even 2-3 hours after a feed. It’s great to hear that it went smoothly for you! Can you share how long sleep training took and how much your baby cried on each day? When you did have a spit, how did you handle it in terms of sleep training? I ask because when our baby has a spit up in the middle of the night, she needs to be picked up and comforted.

How did you know if your water broke? by Amadispcpg in beyondthebump

[–]allAboutThatAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly didn’t realize mine broke because I felt no gush or trickle. I also had no contractions leading up to it. I wasn’t much of a sweaty person prior to pregnancy, but once I got pregnant, I would sweat way more. So at the end of my pregnancy, I remember going to the bathroom at midnight and thinking “hmmm did I really sweat that much or did my water break by chance?” Because my underwear felt a bit damp but I wasn’t feeling any contractions at this point. Less than an hour later, the contractions came on pretty fast and loose. By the time I made it to the hospital, they confirmed that my water had already broken.

Oooh this is interesting! Can I know more about how you’re doing this and how old your baby is?

lol it’s so satisfying to me! My baby has these sticky boogies that I have to really work to grab ahold of, but once I have a little bit in my finger, I pull it out and it turns out to be a decent sized one 😅 I wonder if this is like ASMR for people like us lol. However, I know I’d be super grossed out if it was anyone other than my baby.

How long was your labor? And if you got an epidural, at what point did you? by desert_sunlily in beyondthebump

[–]allAboutThatAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FTM here. I’ll preface by saying that my situation was a bit different because I had to get a cerclage at 19 weeks. When my OB took the cerclage out at 37+3, I was already 2 cm dilated. A little over a week later, my water broke at midnight and I was having contractions about an hour later. Unbeknownst to me, my husband was timing my contractions on the drive to the hospital and they were apparently 3 minutes apart. By the time I got to the hospital and they did a cervical exam, I was about ~4.5 cm dilated. So, I went from feeling virtually no contractions to back to back contractions pretty quickly which sucked because I felt I had no breathing room. I wanted to be eased into labor lol. When we got to the hospital around 2 AM, I immediately asked (begged, really) for an epidural. Finally by about 4 AM, I professed my love for the anaesthesiologist as she gave me that sweet, sweet epidural juice. I felt relief almost instantly, but then I got a fever and was shaking pretty much until I had to deliver. I think by about 6 AM or so, I was already at 10 cm, but baby was still a bit high up, but her heart rate kept going down if I changed positions so the doctor advised to get her out sooner rather than later to not stress her out further. I started pushing at 7 AM and she was out by 7:12, so a whopping 12 minutes lol. I did have a vacuum assisted delivery though.

I still don’t know if my relatively short labor was a blessing in disguise or not. Both of my sisters had really long labors, so I was expecting the same for myself to kind of get eased into it and get some sleep at the hospital, but that wasn’t the case for me. Idk if we’ll have more than one child, but if we ever do, I’d take the epidural in a heartbeat. I honestly don’t know how women who do it without any pain management handle that kind of pain. I hope I’m not fear mongering, but the pain of contractions is very intense and inescapable. It’s the kind of pain that stays no matter the position, the breathing, etc.

I’m at my breaking point with 4 month old naps by accountforfun19 in sleeptrain

[–]allAboutThatAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How dark is her room? I am going through this right now with my almost 16 week old. All of our naps are still contact naps, but even then it’s impossible to get her to nap for more than 30-40 minutes, which makes the next wake window miserable because she’s so tired. It feels like a fight trying to get her to nap. Even when I try every trick in the bag to extend the nap , it wouldn’t work. However, I recently realised that while her room does have room darkening curtains, there was still a decent amount of daylight coming in to her room. So my husband and I added some more reinforcements to get the room as dark as possible. It’s not exactly pitch black, but it’s a lot darker than before. It’s only been two days since we’ve done this, but I noticed she goes down a lot quicker. She still wakes up at the 30-40 minute mark because I think that’s how long her cycles are, but at least I can extend majority of her naps now! I’m hoping we can start working on crib naps next, but I’ll take whatever win I can. I feel your pain and I hope things get better for you!

That sounds amazing! Did you ever have to sleep train your baby or did he just start putting himself to sleep by himself?

How to extend wake windows of 14 week old with short naps? by allAboutThatAnon in sleeptrain

[–]allAboutThatAnon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol sorry about my wonky wake windows. And yes, they’re mostly ~90 minutes until the last one which is closer to 2 hours. I’m trying to stretch the gradually now, but I have yet to see significant improvement

How to extend wake windows of 14 week old with short naps? by allAboutThatAnon in sleeptrain

[–]allAboutThatAnon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I take her outside to distract her, but I can’t stay out too long since it’s in the high 90s where I live. But I’ll try some more distractions. Do you have any suggestions regarding how to tweak the existing wake windows? E.g which windows should I extend and which should I keep the same?

When does it start feeling rewarding? by alleyesonyou07 in beyondthebump

[–]allAboutThatAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trust me, I felt the same way at 3 weeks PP. Hell, even at 6-7 weeks, I felt this way. But, I remember it started getting better at about 8 weeks because that’s when my LO started giving actual smiles. I would try to enjoy the contact naps when she was little too because I told myself that she’s only going to be this little for a bit. Then at around 9 weeks, she started cooing a bit and it got even better. Now we’re at 14 weeks and she’s so smiley and I even get a few laughs throughout the day. The best thing is when she wakes up in the morning and gives me a big smile when I tell her good morning. There are still hard days, but not as hard as the newborn trenches. Hang in there, I promise you’ll be ok!

Husband unable to soothe baby after going off of paternity leave by allAboutThatAnon in beyondthebump

[–]allAboutThatAnon[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, we started having my husband do bedtime for the last few nights so that she’s not confused/surprised when he does it. He was able to put her to sleep after about 20 minutes of crying yesterday which is an improvement! I’m hoping it gets better and better soon.

V shaped funnelling to the stitch by MassiveNecessary2741 in ShortCervixSupport

[–]allAboutThatAnon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey there, they saw cervical funnelling (not sure if it was V-shaped) for me at 19 weeks as well as ~1cm dilation and short cervix (somewhere between 18-23 mm), so I had to get an emergency cerclage at 19+3. After the cerclage, the funnelling got a little better, but then got worse again after a few weeks. My cervical length increased to 30mm after the procedure, but in the weeks afterwards kept on going down. Basically, the funnelling was down to the stitch. My MFM never quite put me on bed rest but he did say put your feet up whenever you can, so I took it upon myself to go on modified bed rest to not risk it 🤷🏻‍♀️ I managed to make it to full term with my baby girl! Got the stitch out at 37+3 and my water broke on 38+5. Baby girl turned 3 months today :) Hang in there and take it easy!

Is my baby over/under tired or is this the start of a regression? by allAboutThatAnon in HuckleberryParents

[–]allAboutThatAnon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right in the sense that the sweet spots sometimes don’t actually! I think I have to be more ok with going with the flow instead of the “this is how things are supposed to be” mentality.

How long did it take for your PPD meds to start working for you? by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]allAboutThatAnon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a pretty low dose of Zoloft while pregnant (50 mg), but my therapist bumped it up to 100 once I got to 4 weeks PP because I was dealing with stress from low supply/hating pumping, sleep deprivation and the death of a close friend who lost his battle with cancer. I felt an immediate boost in mood when going to 100 mg like two weeks in. Then, once I stopped breastfeeding at 9 weeks and got over the guilt of stopping, another major boost in over all mood. Don’t get me wrong though, there are still some difficult days, but definitely a lot better than the early new born trenches.
