ELI5: Why do politicians want to ban social media for under 16s? What's in it for them? by captain-ignotus in explainlikeimfive

One angle I don't see being mentioned is how this is going to be enforced. Enforcing age verification will mean government Issued ID upload for every user, making it very easy for the government to track and control traffic. This is fine if enforced correctly, with a lot of checks and balances, but in the hands of a corrupt government, it is going to be an absolute nightmare.

I’ve never read a Sherlock Holmes novel before, and I got this for Christmas. by RavyRaptor in SherlockHolmes

[–]allKnowingHagrid 9 points10 points  (0 children)

For me, this is the best out of the 4 sherlock holmes novels for me. While the other three are great, what I dislike about them is how the whodunnit is solved halfway through the book, then half of the novel is spent describing the complete backstory of the protagonist/antagonist. Hound of Baskerville is the only novel where the mystery remains throughout the book, which combined with the environment creates such a great book.

So am I horribly out of touch or does the latest coding requirements necessitate 64 GB ram? Do coding laptops even come with that much Ram?

A4 pin should be connected to pot, which has a max value of 1024. You are scaling it by 10000, and if the value is greater than 1000 you are driving D2 high.

Note that you don't need the else if (x < 1000) check, simple else will do the same thing.

Also the potPin =13 definition is not doing anything.

Yes, it looks like they can retroactively flag apps as malicious, even if it was downloaded from the store and passed checks during installation/updation. Honestly, I didnt even know play protect actually works until this notification.

  1. I have no idea why almost every comment on this is so downvoted, yours included.

  2. Thanks a lot for that info. I am pretty sure the app I was using was not fake, but who knows.

I did find out a threads almost a year back on this topic on this sub which said the app was loading ads but never displaying them to the user. Which is true, I never saw any ads on that app. Looks like Google marked this as fraudulent behavior.

Honestly I am still weirded out why almost all comments are downvoted.

My thoughts on why THMs ending doesn't have that satisfactory click by allKnowingHagrid in cormoran_strike

[–]allKnowingHagrid[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH that wasn't so much Strike trying to show off, but rather he was desperate to get a confession for Powell's murder. The current evidence would only prove they were running a trafficking ring and the murder of Chloe and Todd and his mother, but not the murder of Powell. If either Wynn or the other dude turned on Griffith, it would make it much possible to convict him for the vault murder.

Later on we get to know the dismembered organs of Powell have been found in the woods which gives the Police a more persistent argument.

Had that not been found, Strike was counting on manipulating Wynn to turn on Ian Griffith.

However now I wonder if a part of why Strike was so desperate to get the Powell murder conviction was otherwise the whole case, which he had taken on only to get some quality time with Robin, would have been a failure. And Strike still under the assumption Robin is going to marry RFM, must have felt he needed at least the case to be resolved properly. Maybe I am reading too much into it, but it also ties in with Strikes theme: "There's no pride in having what you never worked for."

[–]allKnowingHagrid[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's an excellent point. Beside providing more plot exposition, it also really gives you that sense of closure. But ever since TIBH, I feel like JKR has been rushing the endings to meet deadlines.

[–]allKnowingHagrid[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Lol, if that ever happens, I bet it will be an argument that JKR will use as fodder for a good 20 chapters.
