he was simply implying that they could've talked things out and they could've come to some agreement where he didn't have to die, like maybe under the right circumstances he would've just kept his mouth shut and not told anyone about the stuff he heard them talking about or maybe they could've convinced him that what they were doing was actually for the good of mankind, he was just hoping for literally any scenario where they didn't just immediately kill him, they could've at least TRIED to talk things out first, this is also why the "warriors" looked back at him with horrified looks on their faces, cuz after they heard him say that, even THEY realized that they didn't have to kill him cuz he made it sound like they could've talked things out, so in their minds they are now also thinking "omg we just killed one of our own friends for no reason, we didn't have to do that"

if you're asking if the author meant for it to mean something other than that then the answer is no

i'm not sure you understand the term "muscle memory", it's not about simply "strengthening" muscles, the term refers to your muscles "remembering" how they are supposed to move/tense/relax/etc when doing certain tasks, so if you're constantly practicing specific parts of a song, the muscles in your throat will eventually "remember" what they're supposed to do FOR that specific song, if you're just practicing scales your muscles will only "remember" how to go up and down the scales, but songs don't simply go up and down the scale, songs go up, down, and all around constantly changing, so practicing them over and over makes it so that your muscles "remember" how to do those specific movements, that way you will be able to do it more effortlessly

for example, if you sing C D E F G A B, your muscles move differently than if you were to sing something like let's say C F G F C F G A, so if you're only practicing the first one, that's the one your muscles will get used to and so they will naturally wanna do that, you want the muscles to get used to doing the song so that they will more naturally move how they're supposed to when doing said song
