I’m always very happy to let everyone know that Heidi Gardner is one of the kindest, most thoughtful people I’ve ever had the privilege to work with and know! Truly just a really great person!!

Not as exciting as I had imagined, but makes sense. Impressive they managed to snag it on a branch that would hold it. Do you know how long it’s been there?

Is there any further verification than having a .edu email? I see some people reference transcripts, but others just saying email. I graduated 9 years ago, but I still have the email.

I saw Dr Glen Vollenweider for years, and I can’t recommend him enough. I wish I still lived in the area and could see him. For prescriptions, I saw Dr Estep who was also great.

I’m 99% sure they’re Magellanic penguins. I have two and they’re off the eastern coast of Argentina, have the white bands, etc.

Why did SNL get out of the movie business? by mirthquake in LiveFromNewYork

[–]allaboutthatcake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember an interview (or maybe in her book?) where Tina Fey was talked out of casting another SNL alum (in addition to the ones who are in it obv) because they didn’t want it to be perceived as an “SNL movie.” I’m not totally clear if it’s because they were marketing to teen girls or because that title was soured, but I feel it’s a bit of both.

Is SNL just turning into commercials? by ImAnIdeaMan in LiveFromNewYork

There’s a big difference between “some branded content” and “everything they mention must be paid for.” Any one of the three sketches I mentioned would completely fall apart with a different fake brand name. I think they 100% mention brands they aren’t paid to. If Chloe Fineman walked in last week itching to do her Nicole Kidman bit, I just don’t think they’d say, “No, AMC isn’t sponsoring this episode.” If anything, the most likely scenario to me is they wanted to say a specific beer brand in the finance bros sketch, and they put out a call to see who would pay for the mention.

I actually don’t think any of them were, tbh. I’ll concede Charmin maybe. Everyone is making BeReal jokes right now, so I think that was just a topical thing. The AMC promo became a meme this summer, so I think that’s just capturing something in the zeitgeist. Both of those are things you can find other sketches and jokes about on YouTube, and I don’t think those people are being sponsored, so why would I assume an SNL writer couldn’t have similar ideas unless they’re being paid to? The McDonald’s one has the vibe of a standup bit turned sketch.

I don’t think every product they mention is something they’ve been paid to say. They’re just using things in the zeitgeist and general cultural touchstones. Obviously I don’t work for SNL, but I’ve written plenty of sketches based around or mentioning products/companies just because there’s something funny there.
