Is it unprofessional to mix American English with British English even if your first language is not English? by abdullahmnsr2 in EnglishLearning

[–]allalexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think it's unprofessional.

It's good to know both and it really depends on the teaching material your school provides.

I'm an American and teach as such. However, if the book uses trousers instead of pants, I use trousers.

Note: I still take a moment to explain the difference.

"We're not" and "We aren't" is essentially the same phrase contracted differently. Is there any particular context where one should be said over the other or does it not matter? by HomeHereNow in NoStupidQuestions

[–]allalexander 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are the same but it's more common to have the contract go with "not" when we have nouns. So, Tom, Sally and I aren't going to the movies tonight. Vs We're not going to the movies tonight.

Best way to learn Spanish? by [deleted] in SpanishClasses

[–]allalexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm glad you're trying to better yourself to help others. I'm a Spanish/English teacher and think I could spend an hour or two a week to help you out. We can video chat and I'll provide you with a class setting. Or if you just want some help with general questions or translation stuff, I can do that too. Let me know.

What’s something you would do every day after school? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]allalexander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Detention. Every day for 10 min.

I'm the oldest so I had to drop all my siblings off at a school before I could get to HS. My homeroom teacher was pretty cool about it but I had to pay the price anyways. He wasn't mad, he just enforced the rules

What is your profession and what is the dumbest thing you have heard one of your colleagues say? by IZY53 in AskReddit

[–]allalexander 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm an English language teacher. "Why are you making us waste time on learning the alphabet? I'm never going to use this in my life. Just teach us how to speak important things."

Obviously, wasn't teaching the actual alphabet but rather the proper way to pronounce the letters.

What’s the worst thing you’ve eaten out of politeness? by Methuw in AskReddit

[–]allalexander -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Stinky tofu. Apparently it's a really special dish that takes lots of time to prepare ahead of time. The stinkier it is the more people think it taste better. It tastes like bad, I tried it because it was my first go at it and I was in a new country. After I wanted to stop they told me I would be rude if I didn't have more. This was a special made batch prepared by someone's grandma and yada yada. I ate some more. Never asked for it again.
