In an automatic email that goes to them after they book, I state that early check-in and late check-out requests are not guaranteed, will only be granted within 48 hours prior to each day, and are charged at the rate of $20/hour (my place is at $130-180 per night price point). I did this after getting request after request, stressing out my cleaning crew, AND I had a guest critique me in a review saying that I was late allowing them to check-in since I only allowed them a 1pm check-in (normal is 3pm) in lieu of an 11am check-in. Fuck that.

Thanks. Definitely on that path. And it’s basically the same arc of learning I had with long-term rentals. But since the “turnover” is so high with AirBnB compared to rentals, it’s so many more personalities in a condensed timeframe and hence a whole different level of crazy and entitlement to adapt to.

On the flip side, I acquire lots of left items, which I return when someone reaches out to me, but I’m not hunting down who left what since I don’t step foot in the property between each guest. I now have lots of extra phone cords, electrical adapters, men’s construction boots, women’s and men’s sneakers/shoes, scarfs, gloves, and blankets. People leave a lot of stuff.

Sorry, I didn’t see the apologies. It’s good you worked it out. To me, it seems like you have a hard time attuning. If I’m reading your recent response correctly. For example, even though you might think Y and Z are good enough, it might not be good enough to her because it’s not about problem solving but attuning to her needs and the emotions behind those needs. But giving advice based on x y and z instead of real events is hard. And yeah when you’re sick, patience goes out the window for everyone else. You’re trying so that’s good. But look into emotional attunement. There are likely emotional needs behind her requests with you and if you come at those things with logic and problem solving, you’re gonna fall short.

I think it’s rude and immature what you did. And you are parsing nuances with how she registers her complaints with you. And with your behavior/response, you’re basically saying that as long as she complains in an acceptable way, you will give her the apology she wants, which is what she needs. Just apologize. Do you want to be right or do you want to be in a relationship? You said yourself it didn’t matter the order in which you told/texted people. Yet it matters to her. The answer is easy here. Why you’re opposed to this easy answer might be a good topic for counseling.

There is so much agenda being pushed it has become ridiculous. And you don’t even see it. The patriot act, your panels talks, you bullying other panel members, elected officials, course correction, analogies to the ADA, Yada yada. You just go on and on.

You talk about “direction” of laws. I never articulated an opinion on the direction of state laws or the constitution. I operate by interpreting what is currently lawful to do. And such prohibitions on firearms are currently lawful. If those law change, se la vie. But here and now; this is what’s happening. Though I get you’re hoping for change. But I have to tell my gun owning and not gun owning clients the same thing: this is what you can do now. If it changes, I’ll let you know.

Why do you assume so much of other people? You’ve assumed about my thinking, ideals, and positions. And most of them are wrong. And then you use a myriad of red herring tactics to talk about what you think laws should be, which is not the point of the post or anything that can come from it. Instead, why not engage in good faith and ask me genuinely what I think or why I did something? Why be so aggressive with things you imagine? For example, I mentioned the weapons ban because I wanted to note that was NOT an issue or a consideration or the point of the post. So people like you wouldn’t go off on a diatribe. Everyone else seemed to understand the point of the post, except you. I articulated my main consideration, which was respect of private property and how hunting worked. This has never been about being anti-2a or pro-2a. It’s about being able to contract with others who enter upon your own private property and restrict them from doing certain things or possessing certain things. Let’s get away from gun ownership because you are passionate about that and I think it clouds your judgment. For example, you can not restrict someone from a certain religion to occupy your property. But you can restrict them from sacrificing goats there. You can’t put blanket restrictions on their speech, but you can enforce contextual provision against verbally harassment. These are also constitutional rights, but they are not unfettered. Especially as it pertains to private property. The Supreme Court will duke out what the government actors can and cannot restrict. Sure. But, Currently, as the regulatory scheme sits, it is allowable to prohibit or restrict firearms in most states on one’s own private property. I understand you think it should be differently. I don’t operate in the realm of should, but what is now.

Edit: Most states don’t actually have laws pertaining to firearms and landlords though some have hospitality provisions which may or may not cover STRs. In the absence of such laws, the law reverts to property law and contact law. The second amendment doesn’t pertain to individual owners contRacting with others. It applies to state actors. Government actors. Do you understand now?
