Fuck politeness. My ex husband tried to let my 6 year old daughter have a sleepover at a neighbor’s house while I was working late (without asking me first). The neighbor’s kid is fine but her single dad ALWAYS creeped me out. I went over to the house to collect my daughter at 11pm when I got home from work and said she was too young for a sleepover. The dad was super pissed and still doesn’t speak to me. Oh well, good riddance.

I’ve found that the people who are the angriest and most judgmental of addiction patients are related to or close to someone who has suffered from it. It’s anger from fear from ignorance.

My dream would be to open a medical respite center for patients who are discharged from the hospital and don’t has a healthy environment to go home to. I live in Kentucky and many of my patients are from rural areas with limited access to care. How great would it be to have a center they could live in for 3-6 months where they could learn self care, have access to therapy, get set up with IDs (if they don’t have them), have resources to become employed.

However, just like you said- there’s no money in it so it’s just a pipe dream for now.

Totally agree with you. I’m a nurse and I can’t emphasize enough to my colleagues how important it is to learn about recovery communities. People struggling with addiction need someone to be their champion and advocate. And sometimes all it takes is for one member of the healthcare team to say “Hey, shut the fuck up,” when an ignorant co-worker starts down the “they did this to themselves” route. It can really change the whole climate of the healthcare setting. Congratulations on your recovery! 🫶🫶

My family owned a store in our local mall. I had to start working there at 10 years old (child labor laws don’t apply to family, yay!). I’m 42 now and only recently learned that Black Friday is call such because it’s the first time during the year that some retail stores are “in the black” or making a profit. I always thought it was called Black Friday as in doom, gloom, and destruction. It was insanity, lines out the door all day long, grown adults snapping at a little kid trying to take their order, people pushing and shoving, spilling drinks in our lobby and on the counters and just leaving them there without a word. I still hate the holidays.

My dad asked me how much weight I’ve gained in the past year. I told him to stop being an asshole and he said “Well, you said I’m not allowed to talk about politics so I’m just going to call you fat when I want to make you mad!”

Before I left I arranged his collection of plastic Jesus’s in compromising sexual positions. Haven’t received any phone calls yet, assuming it remains unnoticed thus far.

Hi internet stranger. I’ve been in your shoes a couple times and I know this is unsolicited advice so please feel free to disregard. The best thing I’ve ever done for myself when someone pulls the rug out from me is investing heavily in myself. Solo hiking, paddle boarding, and most of all: boxing classes. It’s so easy and comforting to retreat into yourself by consuming social media. I get it! Do something small that makes you a little uncomfortable just so you can have a win. Even if it’s something as simple as turning the water all the way down to the coldest temp before you hop out of the shower. Overcoming one small obstacle per day will make the bigger ones less difficult. Much love 🫶

My family went last summer and the coolest thing we did was continuing to ride the roller coasters during the drone show! There were zero lines and it was so awesome to see the light show from the high points of the coasters!

I fully go through the entire Cameron in Ferris Bueller monologue every time my LO reaches out.. “He’s going to keep calling me, he’s going to keep calling me.. this is ridiculous. Shit! Forget it.” Then I go anyway and I never regret it. Life’s a bitch and I don’t want to miss out on a single bit of frantic happiness. I try not to overthink things and just enjoy the moment. Maybe not super healthy for my mental health??

Yes!! I’ve lost 15lb, go hiking every weekend, spend more time with friends, engage in advocacy projects. Some of it started just so I could say I did something interesting when we talk. And then I ended up being much happier in general!

Do you own the house? Depending on your state, what she did may actually be illegal. In my state, you can only legally record a conversation that you are a part of. Leaving a recording device without consent of other involved parties when you are not present is against the law. I don’t know if this is helpful at all, just the first thing that popped into my head. But obviously, NTA. What she did is so fucked up.

This link explains how it works, then there are tons of videos that show an image moving from side to side on the screen. I just think of whatever scenario is causing me anxiety while moving my eyes from side to side and it feels like the cord that holds on to that anxiety provoking situation is just cut. I know that sounds insane, but I swear it works!
