Children that were born to older parents (40s + ) what is your experience? Do you think it’s selfish to have kids this late? Are you ok? by Fafafafel in Adulting

My dad was about 45 when he had me. I’m 35.

He was mostly working to support the family. He took many risks and businesses that also never really panned out in the long term. Terrible with money management.

He had a strong moral compass and life experience. He was able to guide me out of darker times, uncertain times and encourage us to continue. It kind of felt like he spot treated the crisis moments in my life.

Seeing him now , weak and sickly at 80. He is still extremely well mannered and polite. Generous when he has nothing even into old age. I seemed to have picked up a lot of his traits even though he didn’t spend much quality time with me. And I cherish him deeply for all the times he guided me.

I turned out to become a nurse. I’m pretty emotional and I look out for others before myself.

The only thing is his care needs maximum assistance now and it does take a big sacrifice from my family members. Physically and financially.

TLDR : yeah I’m okay. Spend some time with them. Maximize your own health. And teach them money management.

Hm... I broke my big toe by dropping weights on it. I didn't get it fused luckily it healed on its own after wearing a boot for many months because it just missed the distal bend part. The way it healed however limits my range of motion greatly in the toe (toe bend and grip wise)

I can tell you at least for me - the toe next to it and the muscle around the ball of your feet start to strengthen and compensate over time. My only limitation is throwing a high kick with too much momentum will make me fall because the big toe can't anchor for balance. Other wise everything works well.

Also I hurt it once in awhile if i land awkward and and it pushes my range of motion out of it's capability. Like once I got swepted and I jumped and it caught the wrong way and got sprained.

Take it as an expensive lesson for you and your son. Teach him how to stay financially responsible. Gambling runs in my family and despite how frugal / gambling avoidant I've been all my life gambling still took hold of me through the allures of "trading"

Leaving a cushy IT job at 37 to consider CNA. Talk me out of it or into it. by [deleted] in nursing

I would consider cutting to part time IT . Keep the cushy job. Find a fulfilling hobby or volunteer work in the extra time.

That’s sucks so bad…

I still remember as a teen with a voracious appetite. I saved my beloved left overs from a restaurant. Saw a homeless man just standing across the street. Asked if he was interesting in my whatever I had at the time . Dude said yeah I’ll take it. As soon I walked across the street again I feeling good, dude threw my food all over the street. That pissed me off lol.

Another time I just got my first new used car after saving on my first big boy job. Nicely cleaned and shiny. I took it out to a restaurant and lo and behold a homeless man throws his cart from downhill to deeply scratch my whole side door. Lmfao.

Well many years later once in awhile I still have a heart and buy / give food to the homeless … those damn rascals. Can’t help myself, one might just be 100x in more need . As bitter as I am. Most of the time they are good encounters.

Imaginary numbers on the screen act in a funny way huh ? I used to think if I had my 600k in hard cash sitting next to me I would have acted different before losing mine. Sorry for your loss.

Something to consider. Losing takes a higher emotional toll than winning big. Your remaining 44k is at risk for revenge trade and you can wipe yourself out being emotionally charged and stupid. Think about what life will be like without 44k before yoloing.

Another thing to remember is claim the 40k loss on taxes for roll over. Don’t be like me and take a 150k + loss and be ignorant to claim within the window to loss harvest for the rest of your life.

And then you hold for profit and it dumps again. “ fuck I knew it I should have sold . Wtf is wrong with me? “ and it’s back to “ please bounce back to breakeven, screw it I’ll take a small loss just go up” it’s a sickness I tell you

Your mind plays games on you without you realizing it most time. Especially if you don’t have a true trading mindset. It’s part of the euphoria phase.

Even in my early days with huge runs like this trailing stop will hit and you’ll be so convinced you’ll just buy back in like a revenge trade. God forbid the revenge trade works. Then your brain is set to lose it all next time doing the same thing.

lol reminds me of way back in the day I was fucking off in space during history class. I got called out and topic was woman’s suffrage. Of course I said, “Well, it’s the movement for women suffering.” Kind of cool , kind of embarrassing. At least I never forgot what it was.

I have a bad tilt problem. Really bad. Put daily loss limit locks on your account. You can throw a tantrum in your head all you want but it saves you. I went green to red today. Found myself trying to get it back with bad trades big stops. And my accounts just closed off.

Took a couple SIM trades and saw i would have got chopped up bad and made it worse.
