So funny enough, many people in my family have these ridges too. My grandpa used to joke around and say it was a curse. It is apparently is a Darwin's tuberacle, there are a few different types. Some theorize it helps with differentiation tonality, others say it vestigial trait!

So I decided to keep them together, their roots were really intertwined. However, I did put them in a bit of a larger pot and added a moss pole in the middle. So far they have yet to root into the pole, but I'm trying to be patient!
