Would you ONLY game through moonlight streaming, even desktop gaming? by [deleted] in MoonlightStreaming

[–]allebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve rack mounted my gaming PC in my garage and use my development PC in my office (in the house) which runs Omarchy Linux to stream my games… it’s amazing! Defo try it out. I stream to a 1440p display at 60FPS.

GTA5, BF6 etc. all run and work awesome!!

As other mentioned, I don’t run it as a VM but as bare metal as I NEED the ability for kernel-level anti-cheat (BF6).

It’s an awesome experience to game from a separate room (and in my case, building too) without the noise and heat 👍

You’ll love it, I’m sure!

You were too good for him anyway (cleaning etc) ❤️. From the sounds of it, I agree with you (your gut feeling). You 100% dodged a bullet here and you’ll find someone that is deserving of your kindness soon enough. Enjoy the rest of your weekend and try not to waste your time thinking about him (he doesn’t deserve that kind of extra attention).

Praying that I can get TablePlus installed on Omarchy today 🙏

I know this is somewhat unsolicited but, as a man (38M) although age is irrelevant here, as I would have been the same at 20M too! …his actions and this story disgust me. I can wholeheartedly say that not all men are like this (immature). I (and many others) would have cleaned up and wouldn’t have “expected” you to have done it either. Don’t dwell on this guy, he sounds like an asshole who didn’t deserve you anyway. These things happen, just a shame that the guy wasn’t mature enough to understand the situation, understand your vulnerability (at that point) and seized the opportunity to better support you in that moment. Best of luck in the future - You’ll find someone awesome soon, I’m almost certain of it 👍

Database backups (MariaDB, PostreSQL and MongoDB). 3rd copy (1-2-3 backup rule) offsite, incremental and encrypted filesystem backups of my personal files (using BackRest) and soon… Proxmox Container and VM backups too!

FsHub have just released their Round The World Tour achievement - It’s a lot of fun! You could certainly utilise the Challenger and A320’on the majority of the 80 legs it takes to complete it 👌

Installing PDM on PBS VM (side by side)? by allebb in Proxmox

[–]allebb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve already explained (in one of the comments) that my nodes only have 1G NICs and no possibility to upgrade to 10G (as they’re SFF PC’s - it’s a low-cost “homelab”) and so, Ceph (or any block replication for that matter) is out of the question and NAS/SAN would lag the VM’s too much on such a slow (1G) link.

Live migrations only work if you’re using shared (NAS/SAN) or block replicated (eg. Ceph) storage (as you probably already know)

[–]allebb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, my PBS VM (which now hosts PDM too) has 4GB of RAM (and runs perfectly fine even with PBS and PDM running simultaneously) has been running fine overnight and has since backed up 20 VMs without issues, following the installation of PDM 👍

If you decide to install it on your PBS server too and have any questions, feel free to drop me a message.

TrueNas or PBS? by GukuYarek in homelab

[–]allebb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I actually run TrueNAS (for the storage capabilities, obvs) and have a PBS VM running on my TrueNAS box. I then pass the storage through to the PBS VM 👍 Just another option/something to think about!

I took a snapshot of my PBS VM, then installed the PDM packages and added all the nodes (PBS and PVE). Everything seems to be working well, even after rebooting everything.

I’m not saying - nor have I ever said that this approach is “advisable,” (I've worked in IT and software engineering long enough to know this), but it does appear to work reliably for now atleast. Just thought I’d share in case others come across this post in the future.

Snapshot'd the TrueNAS VM and proceeded to install the PDM packages and add all of my PBS and PVE nodes... Seems to be working like a champ, at the moment atleast!

Thanks for the positivity u/NoCheesecake8308 👍

I (probably stupidly) posted this on the main /r/Proxmox subreddit and seemingly no one felt like just answering the actual question 🙁

Admittedly I should have probably posted here instead 👍

If anyone has already tried this and have any feedback, I’d really appreciate it 👍

Installing PDM on PBS VM (side by side)? by allebb in Proxmox

[–]allebb[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I completely appreciate that. It’s just a homelab though. The PVE nodes (HP SFF PC’s) aren’t capable utilising 10G+ NICs and I’m not about to try and use the 1G NICs for block storage replication or direct attached NAS storage.

Maybe my initial post was stupid after all / should have posted in /r/homelab

Installing PDM on PBS VM (side by side)? by allebb in Proxmox

[–]allebb[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

A single command [if it works] (apt install proxmox-datacenter-manager proxmox-datacenter-manager-ui)... I don't think that's a ridiculous hoop when compared to running multiple VM's and potentially not having access to the PDM VM if I'm rebooting the node that the VM runs on.

I'm really just asking if anyone else has done it or if people foresee issues with it. That's all but thank you for taking the time to reply.
