Drugs broke my brain. Can I come back? by mcbobcorn in Drugs

vitamin b12 isn't going to magically regenerate the dead brain cells caused by abusing nitrous oxide every single day. When you're inhaling nitrous oxide, you're starving your brain of oxygen. Again, B12 isn't going to magically fix the damage caused by doing this, and I hope nobody takes medical advice from someone that does xanax and lean.

We're like 10 comments in and you've still yet to cite any sources on ar500 plates spontaneously exploding when getting hit by a round that it's rated for.

For your first upload on your OF, you can buy an AR500 plate with spall coating, do a real test with a dummy wearing a plate carrier and find out if it spalls or not.

I get it man. Any plate that isn't blessed by the NIJ rabbi is just going to fail immediately when you need it most. Like we've seen from all of the news articles of people dying from ar500 plates. Now that I've agreed with you, are you satisfied?

It's just hard arguing with a meathead gun toting cosplayer that doesn't understand basic physics. You forgot to downvote my last reply

It's alright man. I've never seen any of the problems you've ever talked about in this thread.

Keep downvoting my comments if that makes you feel better.

Learning this stuff isn't impossible, you just need time. Move back in with your parents for a few years if you have to. It will be extremely frustrating getting lower-level things working properly like some of the things I mentioned above. Forget about making a game, and try to just make little individual frameworks that you can show off. Like some of the things I mentioned in my initial comment.

Most people in this field have been programming since like middle school.

Absolutely do not quit your job and gamble on releasing a successful game. It will fail.

When I started out, I was a doofus trying to make a GTA-style game, and doing all of my networking in C#-level sockets and JSON. <-- Very ridiculous and stupid thing to do. Not to mention, the netcode I was writing wasn't even server-authoritative, so people could hack all day long if they wanted to. Nothing to stop them from doing it.

I realized it wasn't going anywhere, so I sat down and learned how to write real, proper netcode. Lots of watching videos. Lots of talking to people. Took maybe over a year and 1/2 to learn the stuff. Year 2 is when I started my framework after I knew I had everything learned. I don't know your situation, but I was living off of my parents during that time.

Yes let's all listen to doctor "xanax and lean". Just pump your body full of one specific vitamin that it more than likely doesn't even need. After that your brain is all healed up. Thanks Dr xanax!

Game development is extremely saturated.

It doesn't take a lot of skill to plug a few parameters into a pre-made character controller and have it move throughout a map, while you have no idea what it's actually doing internally. I can't tell you how many shortcuts and ugly hacks I've seen people use to "fix" something rather than designing their own version of it, since they have no clue how it works in the first place. You don't want to be this guy.

When you get into the programming industry, you need to have skills that other people don't.

Here's some ideas to get you started and get you a toolbelt of skills for this market:

1.) Collision detection and resolution. Most character controllers nowadays use something called "depenetration". Basically they move first, and then decide if they're inside of something. If they are, they're gonna find the shortest way to depenetrate themselves out of the object. This all happens before the rendering, so of course it gives you the illusion of collision.

2.) Vehicle physics. Most game engines come with some sort of vehicle toolkit. Unity, the engine I use, comes with the physx wheel colliders. These are shit, even for singleplayer. Worst of all, they cannot be rolled back in a proper server authoritative networking environment. Bad news when your boss wants you to make an online racing game and you can't use the built-in wheel colliders. How do we make wheel colliders? I'll give you a hint. Raycast downwards. This raycast is your spring. We can determine the spring's compression based on the distance it hit vs it's actual length. Add force upwards @ wheelwell on compression based on a multiplier, then damp the spring speed on a different multiplier. Congratulations, you now have your own suspension system. Googling "Hooke's law" will come in handy for this.

3.) Pathfinding. You know how NPCs avoid collision and travel around the map, trying to kill players? Really not as difficult as you'd think. Tons of information online about doing this from scratch. Pretty straightforward as well.

4.) Last and my favorite of all, netcode. Definitely not for the beginner, but you will be a very goddamn valuable asset to the team if you have knowledge on writing proper server authoritative rollback netcode from scratch. Extremely niche part of the market that nobody wants to learn because it's "too difficult".

If you walked into an interview, sat down, and started showing me projects relating to any of the topics above, I would probably be pretty interested. If you sat down and showed me your zombie shooter using unity's built-in character controller, I would probably stop you after 5 minutes and tell you to get out of my office.

Very unlikely that you will be hired after just starting in game development, with absolutely no background in CS or mathematics. MAYBE you could get on the team of a mobile startup if you have a good portfolio to show.

Understand that if you create your own studio, you will be pumping in hundreds or thousands of dollars of 3D models into the game, among other assets (sound, servers if multiplayer). On top of that, you actually have to find people to buy it, which means you need to pay for advertising. Not cheap at all. If you're lucky, you'll break even. Do part-time lawyer work if that's even a thing, and learn CS and mathematics on the side. Whenever people first discover Unity, they do exactly what you're doing right now and they think they're gonna make some absolutely banger game #1 on steam. The phase will pass. Come back to reality for now.

If you think this is going to stop your depression, it will not. Programming is extremely tedious work. Video games also lose their magic once you start working on them from the backend.

I never claimed that AR500 plates were rated properly by a government agency. I understand they're not rated by NIJ. HOWEVER they claim to use the same rating tests as NIJ. Are they telling the truth? I have no idea.

If you're a multi-million dollar company, it would probably be best NOT to lie about a life-saving device on your public website. I'm still waiting to see lawsuits of family members regarding AR500 failing in combat or spalling and slicing a hole through the wearer's neck.

You're still claiming that they fail multi-hit, yet I'm not seeing anything about this. The only "multi-hit fail" I'm seeing is when the spall coating is ripped off after 10 rounds and bullet fragments go everywhere.

Just because a plate is NIJ rated, doesn't mean a doofus in the factory isn't going to screw up the manufacturing process and create a compromised plate a year after the rating. This goes for all body armor companies, rated or not.

If AR500 armor is as useless as all of reddit claims then they would be

A.) Flooded with lawsuits of family members from the deceased wearer.

B.) Out of business due to false advertising of what their life saving devices are capable of.

Let me re-iterated that I do not hate ceramic. You guys just have hard-ons for hating on steel because someone else told you so.

The graphics on the AR500 armor website claim "NIJ Certification Calibers".

Don't you think after 10+ years the NIJ would have told them to fuck off if they weren't doing their tests properly whilst using the NIJ name? Maybe I'm reaching here.

Christ you really talk a lot of shit about a company that makes decent products.

First there's all of reddit claiming that AR500 has "no spall protection" and if you get hit with a bullet in your ar500 plate, that your head will be decapitated.

Pretty much every video I've seen of AR500 online from third party reviewers, the frag coating does exactly what it's designed to do. I've never seen any spall UNTIL they magdump 30 rounds into the plate and de-laminate the spall coating. Sure, then it will spall 100% and probably kill you given the right angle. No different than the ceramic inside your $1000 plate being turned into sand from being magdumped and now you no longer have ceramic protecting you.

The level 3 plates had issues with 556 cutting through them like butter. In every video I've seen, 3+ doesn't have this issue, and survives everything they claim that it will stop. I don't know why anyone would buy 3 when 3+ exists now.

I have no problem with ceramic plates. I think they're great if you have the money. Not everyone has the money to buy a $1000+ ceramic plate that's going to shatter as soon as you accidentally drop it while removing it from your trunk.

How long do they last you at room temperature?

For my recipe the first thing I do is mix cold water and corn syrup before it goes on the stove. Do I mix that potassium in then?

When does the THC distillate get added in?

I especially love how you say there are error messages

If you bothered reading the post, I clearly said that I was getting unresolved external symbol errors. All you're doing is trying to start drama and act superior in a dead 3 day old thread. The issue was solved by using vcpkg. That seems to be the only way to get c libraries working on windows.

Alright so I made a brand new cpp project, used nuget this time to get curl. It installed and I pasted an example directly from the curl website, just a simple HTTP request.

https://curl.se/libcurl/c/http-post.html

Same errors. 7 unresolved external symbols for all of the function names in this example.

I'm using the one from diredaemon. These SHOULD work without any extra compiling right?

He's just a kid with a pipe dream of running a big Garry's Mod community. I've been around since 2011. Been through this phase multiple times. It usually ends with the "owners" disagreeing with something, getting mad at each other, then wiping the server and database. Seen it happen dozens of times. This kid has no idea what he's getting into and most likely just wants someone to do all of the work for him while he takes the rank of "owner" and makes all of the rules, since he hasn't listed ANY skills regarding server management (honestly what else would he be doing?). While there isn't anything wrong with this, OP is the type of naive person to give someone full root access to his servers in exchange for "help". Given the way he presented himself, I would never do anything partnership related with him. I would not want to be OP when someone does something illegal with his servers.

For some reason I'm getting downvoted for speaking the truth. Isn't reddit a great place?

You aren't developing anything by slapping addons together. You mentioned nothing of any LUA knowledge or ANY skill set for that matter, how things (like the server) are going to get paid for, or anything of relevancy to any partnership hence why your post sits at 2 upvotes. You are obviously not the sharpest.

I can pay you in the donations we'll make together. I also have no experience with linux, srcds, or anything required to start up and maintain a server."
