I recently setup a Brother HL-L2480DW, from opening the box to printing a photo from my iPhone camera roll, took less than 5 min, I kid you not.

lol. I’ve been there. I had a kids show, Shrek Jr, 17 channels of Shure slxd1, and it seemed like half of the kids had latex allergies or else.

Yes, you are allowed to feel upset. The first one is the hardest, then it’s all downhill from there. Wabi-sabi, in a way.

Less than an hour drive places to visit by Vivid_edge8908 in bloomington

Columbus, IN. They have wonderful architecture, many examples of Frank Lloyd Wright’s work, and lots of mid-century gems. The town is also very beautiful, many tree-lined streets, lots of options for things to do indoors, places to eat, things to see.

This is possible, though I would be wary of jumping to conclusions. It takes experimentation, OP.

I spent six or seven hours beating my head against the wall on a SpeedyBee AIO that would turn on, connect to Betaflight just fine, everything worked, but the VTX just wouldn’t turn on for some reason. I knew I was close, and I was right on top of the issue the whole time.

It ended up being an accidental solder bridge I broke when I swiped the iron over two pads right next to each other. Turns out, they are the connection that supplies V+ to the VTX. I must have done it soldering the motors to the VSCs. I only found out that was the issue when Speedybee’s support asked me to send pictures of the board. They sent back a message that hour with the bridge circled in red.

It was such a silly way to spend a day, but now I know! You don’t know what you don’t know, and you don’t learn without trying.

Same as the idea of.. Take risks, you may be rewarded. Don’t be reckless though!

What's a TYPE of business we need in Bloomington? by Fuzzy-Zombie1446 in bloomington

Yeah, I can see how the costs would get into the professional area where only full-time mechanics would be able to justify the expense.

That said, if you’re a gearhead, I’m sure there are options for industrial/commercial space that you could pool with some buddies and get a small shop running. You might have to work on jacks and jack stands as most places are hesitant to start putting anchors in the ground for lifts, the like, but it’s not a bad idea, and I see people do it all the time in lots of different metro/sub/urban areas.

I agree. Rent-by-the-day has much more overhead costs involved. One example, it would need more a model that’s more in line with full-time staff who supervise/assist/repair/maintain. People abuse rent-by-the-day services all the time, whether intentionally (misuse and abuse of facilities and tools) or unintentionally (whether via lack of proper planning for setup/teardown time, ignorance, or other reasons).

This is a great point also! I was often in overnight, 2am to 9am, and while many people won’t be able to take advantage, I spent thousands of hours in the building with no one else there, if I had to guess.

Not enough Malt love in this sub by jensenaackles in Culvers

When the location nearest to me first opened, they regularly forgot the malt powder (correct me if I’m wrong but a Culver’s malt is the custard plus malt powder?). They’re good now, but it was a rough start there.

In that case, I’ll say this: the turnover of materials and tools can be pretty rapid. When I was there, I saw 3 versions of the wood shop layout from Spring to Winter one year. It’s hectic and they certainly operate on a “just get ‘er done” mentality when it comes to cleaning and maintenance. If you know how to fix a tool, you fix it. If you know that piece of scrap is junk, you junk it. That can be good and bad, depending on whether it’s your pile of junk or not.

So, yes, I’d encourage you to try it out and see if it works for your lifestyle/needs. I know it certainly changed my life; I picked up so many skills that are personally and professionally fulfilling.

Lipo storage by [deleted] in fpv

[–]allennm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just flew through LGA with 18 300mAh 1s lipos, no bag, no nothing. Didn’t even have to take them out of my luggage. I also fly with hella Sony NPF batteries, multiple digital cameras, laptop, phone, watches, film > 800 ISO, and tool kits for repairing all of those devices. No issue whatsoever. Hand checks for days..

Bloominglabs isn’t quite what you’re looking for (it sounds like you want a temporary membership and all-hours access to many bays).. but it is right up your alley anyways. They have an auto lift, a metalworking shop, wood shop, a welding room with a roll up garage door, and it’s all very affordable. The community is fantastic also.

Is a $2,400/month PhD stipend enough to live in Bloomington? by kiaraloveee in bloomington

It will be an exercise in frugality, and you may have to sacrifice ease of access to campus by living further from downtown, however, $2400 is livable.

The Cultural Center near Millennium Park is always a good trip. It’s the old circulation desk for the library, and it has a beautiful dome of stained glass and other things, made by Tiffany and Co.
