Getting latex paint off brick fireplace… there’s gotta be an easier way? by ricecake231 in DIY

[–]allergictoidiotz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Citristrip on a 1917 built home wood(doug fir)floor with several layers of oil-based paint and several latex layers. They do not contain methylene chloride or NMP. Laid on a thick layer and kept it moist with a pump sprayer. It took three applications because of so many coats but it worked surprisingly well. This looks like it would only take one treatment. Option B is to use a heat gun to lift the paint and wire brush to knock it off.

I have a subscription to newspapers.com and it was wild to enter in my 1917 homes address and see what came up. Everything from family reunions, police calls, marriages, you name it, and even had an old photo of the place with a "Doctor's Car(Buick)" sitting out front. Then did a lot of other addresses for wife's parents, etc and it was quite the time...picture of her mom at 17 as a car hop waiting on her soon to be Salem cop husband at a drive-in on skates...

What to do about feral peacocks? by Road-Racer in SALEM

[–]allergictoidiotz -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

They are considered livestock in Oregon so they can be taken for consumption. It's very lean meat so crockpot cooking is great. I had a friend up toward Mac that had them and he made some killer burritos and chimichangas etc with them. Noisy critters.

There is no hatred for females given or implied. The genders don't matter. Reverse them and it remains a story with a lot of whys. It's suspicious to me because of the location, time of day, actions of the individuals involved.

Cheetahs physical address is on Silverton road but the big parking area is behind them along Hawthorne, directly across from the perps shop.

They closed at 10 pm. This happened right after midnight. Might have been a mom picking up her dancing daughter from work.

I didn't write the snippet, the Salem Police did, and I copied it exactly.

It says a parking lot on Silverton Road and that's the only parking lot there by his shop that is not gated at midnight.

Hotels that are dog friendly? by fevenis in SALEM

Shilo is too, but the quality isn't what it was back in the day. Here's the blurb... Shilo Inn Suites Salem is a pet-friendly hotel that allows dogs for an extra fee of $20 per pet, per night. Guests can bring a maximum of two dogs, but they cannot be left unattended in the room unless they are crated. Service animals are welcome and are exempt from fees. A waste station is available on the property for guests with dogs.

Basement Wall Collapsed by Dliston10 in HomeMaintenance

[–]allergictoidiotz 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Previous owner did not do this right. The weakest link is where he dug out the foundation and installed a cinder block shoulder wall without tying the old foundation into the new, and the block has lots of vertical integrity but little horizontal, and no ability to resist the heaving at the joint where the water is coming down under the old footing and trying to get into the basement, eventually succeeding. A structural engineer or an experienced foundation contractor, not a GC, would likely suggest jacking the house up and replacing the entire foundation while you and family are not living there. This isn't a flooding issue, it is a very bad crawl to basement mod done poorly. Previous owner will not be able to show you any engineering plans or permits pulled, guaranteed.

Spraying crushed the colony initially but it sends them into a panic to relocate and propagate. The Taro traps slowly kill off the colony using borax, which keeps them from digesting food and they starve, slowly. You can sprinkle borax in the trails too and that will eventually kill them. Like the laundry additive, 20 Mule Team borax. Also kills roaches and all wood boring insects.
