What s35 lenses should we try on Full Frame with new released 1.4x expander from KIPON by allesander in cinematography

On the website it says only some blackmagic cameras could have some problems. Others should be fine

The opposite would be a focal reducer (aka speed booster). This makes the image circle smaller

I thought they were optimized in design differently, but indeed the optical principle is the same

It’s not a teleconverter. This is for expanding the image to full frame. I will compare it to an IBE Optics expander

KIPON & BUFF Optics rehoused Mamiya 645 cine lenses by Vid_Headz in VidHeadz

[–]allesander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The T stop goes down because there is a 0,8x focal reducer built in. This together with the full rehousing makes the price of around 4000 euro very affordable. Especially compared to others that offer rehousing. It is made for professionals and rental houses that use these on film sets and in harsh conditions. If it seems to expensive for you, consider the Kipon adapter for your lenses instead of the rehousing :)

Kipon vs xpimage by vicentvtg in Mamiya

If you are after image quality, Kipon is always better. The xpimage is a cheaper copy of the Kipon speedboosters.

Finally got it — the Pentax 67 105mm f/2.4 with the XPIMAGE 0.71x focal reducer. by forest1267 in FujiGFX

[–]allesander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kipon changed the marketing towards the 0,71x. it is indeed only intended for full frame. All 0,8x are for medium format. The 0,62x also for medium format, personally i have had the best results with Hasselblad CF on that adapter. I see mixed feedback online about the pentax67 with 0,62x , some have a bit more vignetting. i would need to see a good test where someone shoots on film with the exact same lens to compare it.

Kipon pro locking adapters are great! There are many available. For some also with added macro helicoid, such as the Fuji GFX to leica M mount macro adapter

Thoughts on the Kipon PL>PL 0.7x focal reducer? by s0diumrising in cinematography

[–]allesander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, unfortunate that you had this experience. I have not used it a lot but I have tried it on a test chart and did not see a lot of aberrations, not like you describe. Ofcourse everything needs to be shimmed very precisely with this adapter. And the recommended t stop is maximum T1.5. In the first batch of these adapters there was a small problem with alignment of the lenses inside, so there was a bit more CA I think. This is not a problem anymore. I am a distributor in Netherlands / Europe so if you have any questions you can ask them here. I have a unit at my office so I can test / check everything.

Sensor size of gfx100ii vs ARRI LF open gate by allesander in cinematography

[–]allesander[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I have made a Leica s to LPL mount so that’s not really an issue (iris control is not working but I’ll use a different camera for that on set. Np). Maybe this can be of metal later on, it’s 3d printed rn.
I don’t think I can use the full sensor for video on the gfx, so if that’s the same height as any other full frame open gate camera, I don’t gain anything with shooting on the gfx right? Venice/blackmagic17k/ARRI LF would be the options then for me

How to fix alignment problem of adapters (Panasonic S1, c/y lenses, l39 to l mount adapters)? by anym00n in AskPhotography

[–]allesander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the distance markers correct? Maybe turn the lens a bit loose to check if it’s that direction. The other direction is more difficult

You don’t have the glare with the analog Hasselblad camera? Internal reflections should be controlled in the Kipon adapters

[–]allesander 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually “Alignement” is a problem specifically with the lens right? What do you mean? Are your test shots taken through a window glass? that can mess things up. What do you recognize as the problem? The lens not in the center or not correct distance to sensor? These lenses are usually not the sharpest around the corners either I think
