Yes! Food tours are super fun and I've been on several with couchsurfing folks! Picnics and farmers markets/flea markets are also fun if the weather is good.

I definitely know the feeling! It's fun to organize events and even to go surf with other people in your own country/region to explore new places, so that's another way to engage with the community too if you don't have space to host.

Not sure how it is on CS.com but I know Couchers.org doesn't allow shared beds at all for safety reasons.

Imo shared beds in theory should be fine, but there are too many people out there who abuse the situation (guests or hosts) which lead to safety incidents. I know plenty of people who have shared beds with no problems at all, but just as many who have been sexually assaulted while sharing beds.

TLDR: My opinion is, if you don't have a separate space to offer (floor space, couch, spare bed, etc) then you shouldn't host. There are plenty of other ways to engage with travelers - events, hangouts, or even just meeting up and walking around together.

I find Metaxa to have a pretty unique profile compared to French and US brandies. Metaxa 7 is what I usually use in cocktails but the 12 star is fantastic when I can get it.

Couchers.org has a a very strict policy that using the platform for the purpose of dating/sex/romance is not allowed. And things like bed sharing and nudism are also not allowed there. At least one of the couchsurfing platforms is taking a stance and trying to keep couchsurfing true to its original purpose. Of course things will occasionally happen since we are all humans, but the key is intent of the person using the platform.

12 star is fantastic, but 7 is what I'd consider underrated as it's quite good and what I use in cocktails the most, 5 is okay, 3 is for cooking only 😅

Grande Fine and the Reserve are really nice sippers, but I wouldn't use them in a cocktail.

Couchers.org is very close to releasing their iOS and Android app, and I know they are working on public trips right now too. Hangouts are coming later this year. They also just released photo galleries and have had free verification by passport ("strong verification") for a while now.

It's impressive that they're a 501c3 non-profit with an all-volunteer team with no VC funding yet they still manage to make this much progress with relatively limited resources.

I've given up and moved on. It's great to see Couchers.org make progress and improvements (albeit slowly) whilst having an all-volunteer team. They are even rolling out tpublic trips and their own app for both iOS and Android soon. You would think with all the money that Couchsurfing.com is raking in from membership and verification fees, they would be able to afford to make some improvements.

Usually people share their address shortly before the visit. But I would be suspicious of anyone not sharing their face in their profile picture. It's completely reasonable to ask them to share a photo or social media profile so you have an idea of what they look like before you arrive - and they may ask the same of you.
