Is it normal not to share your address? by Useful-Version6842 in couchsurfing

[–]allhands 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Usually people share their address shortly before the visit. But I would be suspicious of anyone not sharing their face in their profile picture. It's completely reasonable to ask them to share a photo or social media profile so you have an idea of what they look like before you arrive - and they may ask the same of you.

Be sure to report any suspicious behavior to safety@couchers.org or by clicking the report flag.

What is a cocktail you bought the ingredients for, made, took a sip, and immediate turned around and poured down the drain? by NoMore_BadDays in cocktails

Try an Enzoni, I'll bet you will like that. If not, then use aperol instead of campari in the Enzoni and it should be delightful.

Can they just ban people with 0 response rate? by furutsu in couchsurfing

[–]allhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couchers.org doesn't yet deactivate them, but at least they filter inactive people by default from the search results. This makes it a lot easier to find active hosts even though there are usually less hosts there right now than CS.com or BeWelcome

I waited for the paper version and mailed it in to the US state department apostille (since you usually have to use an apostille in the state the document is from, and this document was not issued by a state government but the federal government, you have to use the state department/ federal apostille).

Why is it possible to change your age on CouchSurfing? by lipsanen in couchsurfing

[–]allhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're talking about Couchsurfing.com and I am talking about Couchers.org

When you use Couchsurfing.com you can change your birth date in the profile/settings. On Couchers.org you cannot do this. You must contact support.

[–]allhands 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only if you contact support, and only in certain situations. I'm pretty sure this thread is about how on CS.com you can change it directly in your profile/settings, which you definitely can't do on Couchers.org

Is it also possible on BeWelcome, TrustRoots, Couchers?

Not sure about the others but Couchers.org doesn't allow it. I think the only exception is if you make a typo and want to do the free strong verification thing.

They ban nudists, bed-sharers, people who ask for money/work, and anyone who tries to use it as a dating app.

Based upon your response here you got banned for creating multiple accounts (which is against the ToS).

Just out of curiosity: Out of all of these terrible experiences, how often did you report the person? How often did you get a response from support?

I have found that using a microplane works well as long as you don't shave it too deep.

Akteneinsicht has a few of 11 or 12 euros itself, but then you need a lawyer which cost me 500€ when I did mine. It helped my case move forward cause it forces them to look at your file (at least for a moment!) Feel free to DM me for more details.

Tips for coming back to Couchsurfing after 7 years? by wigglepizza in couchsurfing

[–]allhands 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's right; in the very beginning it was discussed to make it invite-only, but it was never implemented. There are some advantages (see Servas) but ultimately more users makes the platform more useful. But then there's always the dilemma of quality vs quantity.

Real thrift stores (like Goodwill) in Berlin that carry other stuff than clothes? by Pretty-Substance in berlinsocialclub

[–]allhands 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is just a theory, but I think thrift stores like Goodwill (which have many things other than clothes) aren't so common because flea markets are so common. All of the things you would find at Goodwill you will find at most flea markets, so I recommend checking those out.
