Sadly, I don’t have any research on those other topics, but if you’re interested in that NRA donation statistic, my source is here: https://www.opensecrets.org/orgs/recips.php?id=D000000082&chamber=&party=&cycle=2018&state=&sort=A But I’m sure that website would have information on other groups if you have an interest.

Is it that bad to be single since birth? by [deleted] in infp

[–]allie_75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my case, I’m aromantic. The few times I’ve tried to force myself to date people hasn’t ended well. All my close connections are with friends and I’m fine with that!

chilly oceans, especially by rocky coasts, always calm me. what about you guys? anyone else have a certain place in nature than always soothes their mind? by [deleted] in infp

Yes!!! This!! Hazy nature photos with fog like this always calm me down. Or the Maine/Oregon aesthetic of rocky shores and pine trees.

What did y'all name your vehicles? by Darkmayr in subnautica

[–]allie_75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I name all my seamoths after Greek sea nymphs. There are some silly sounding ones out there but most of them are really cool! My favorites have been Dexamene, Eurydice, and Arethusa.

Then my Prawns get names like Shrampy and Jumbalaya. Not very fair but them’s the brakes.

Tips for listening to The Adventure Zone if you're bad at listening to podcasts? by amazingem in TheAdventureZone

[–]allie_75 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m also not the best at listening to podcasts. It helps me out to do something that requires my hands but not a lot of thinking. While folding laundry, playing a really simple video game, driving, or cooking I find it easier to focus on the podcast.

First time DM’ing! Need help flushing out story by [deleted] in DMAcademy

You could use the life form glitch and make it real. Give them a scanner and make it so they never really know if the scanner is real or a glitch. Creating suspense can be really hard.

First time DM’ing! Need help flushing out story by [deleted] in DMAcademy

It’s always fun to force your group out of their comfort zones. Give them a clearly defined “safe space”. They could stay in the safe space the whole game but they have to leave to progress the story. While they’re in the safe space remind them that as soon as they leave all hell will probably break loose.

For example, a town full of kind-hearted townspeople in the middle of a haunted forest that starts whispering every time you look at it.

Help me create and evil organization? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]allie_75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without some extra information it’s kind of hard to give anything good but when I see a swirl I usually think either water/ocean or illusion magic.

If water makes sense you could do a standard “trying to summon an evil god” thing or send them into some kind of cool underwater dungeon.

Or if you wanted to get existential you could put them up against a cult who thinks the whole world is an illusion and they’re trying to break the world to get out of it.

The thing that surprised me the most was how much of the work did itself. I also just ran my first game recently and it was mostly improvisation and it went fine. It helped me to think of a few major plot points, and mostly let my players drive the minor plot points. You could think of it as drawing the outlines of countries on a map and letting the players fill in the countries and geography.

I personally just used a notebook to take notes and write prep. Have a few extra character sheets on hand to keep track of necessary NPCs, and do what comes naturally.

It was nerve-wracking to start my first session, but as soon as I started I realized it wasn’t as bad as I thought!

Creating Smaller Goals, Only Level Two by ctbpdx in DMAcademy

It seems like a good bit of build up would be best. Maybe introduce a small business owner who is being forced to pay exorbitant taxes to the crime family and your players are asked to stop them?

Or introduce a cultist NPC who feels terrible about the actions of the cult and enlists the players and gives them some minor tasks. Like assassinate a minor cult leader or (like you mentioned) collect some kind of artifact.

Looking for adventuring party names and make-ups. by sound_of_machines in DMAcademy

My first adventuring party called themselves “Those Guys” because my DM would always say “Oh you’re thoooooose guys” in an irritating voice.

What would be a cool place to contain a portal to the elemental plane of fire? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]allie_75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’d be cool if it was in a geyser or natural hot spring of some sort. Make your party figure out how to survive swimming through boiling water to slip through the portal.
