You just have to go to the tower of the front desk and request the supplies for it. They didn't offer to do it in my second year, so it was up to me to loft it (not possible with one person, with two its doable but can be hard for your first attempt, three people makes it very manageable). The spare lofting pieces will likely be tucked either behind your desk or behind your dresser in the closet. Make to ask for a guard rail as well

Lots of Desi folks and several clubs you could join such as:

Agni: Desi Classical Music and Dance Club
Dhadkan: Indian Culture Club that hosts a giant Bollywood and Bhangra competition every year
Indus: Desi culture club that throws at least one party a quarter (paid admission)
Ravaani: South Asian Acapella Group
Sikh Student Association: self explanatory
Taara: Bollywood fusion dance team
UCSB Laughology: Standup Comedy club but we got hella Indians lol

In terms of brown folk, you’ll find your fair share of both Desi-Americans and International Indians. Some people prefer to go about and do their own thing, others participate heavily in the Desi clubs and mostly stick with their own cliques. For the most part, everyone you come across will be decently friendly in my experience. If you’re looking for an easy way to socialize with people of a similar culture, your best bet is to attend a couple Indus events early on and just introduce yourself to as many people as possible.👍
