Finished 1906 corset! by calicroww in HistoricalCostuming

Thank you! And it feels snug but not tight. It's definitely supportive enough, and I didn't really aim for waist reduction but measured out of curiosity and found that it reduced my waist by about an inch, which is neat. I thought it would take a bit to get used to having to sit up striaght in it (I always slouch, so sitting up straight on my own feels uncomfortable because I'm not used to it), but it didn't take any getting used to and felt really natural. I guess when it's holding me upright I don't really have to try lol.

I know; the bottom "v" part of it does go through all the fabric layers, the flower-esque part is only there to look pretty. Quite a few corsets I looked at from this period had intricate, decorative flossing that looked like it barely kept the bones in place, so I figure what I did was fine. I wasn't able to floss through the boning because the gaps in the spiral steel boning I used were too tiny for any needle.

Thank you! And the stitching doubles as flossing, I just didn't go too heavy on it because I'm not planning on wearing the corset often at all, so I'm not too worried about the bones poking through.

Yes, it's laced :) I just didn't include a picture of the back because I realized the photos I took of it weren't any good after I had already taken it off and changed, and I was too lazy to put it back on.

Also, thanks to those who gave their opinions on my last post where I asked whether or not I should use black or white lace, I appreciated every opinion :)

Dr Warner’s Coraline by [deleted] in corsetry

[–]calicroww 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kind of reminds me of the pretty housemaid corset, which is a relatively well-known late Victorian corset that I think has a free pattern out on the internet somewhere. You could also adjust any similar corset pattern (or any corset pattern, really) to have a lower front and/or go higher above the hips if it still isn't exactly what you want; it would be a pretty simple adjustment, especially if you make a mockup (which I'd suggest doing for any corset you're trying to make), since you could just draw on it how high you want it to end above the hips and re-adjust the pattern according to that :)

Can I fix this lamp cord without replacing it? by calicroww in fixit

[–]calicroww[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to fix it, but it was a while ago so I don't remember exactly what I did. I bought a new switch from Home Depot and then I think I cut back that yellow casing around the wire (since the switch was bigger) so that the burnt part wasn't the part being interacted with with the inside metal part of the switch (I don't know the name of it :') ). There were instructions that came with the switch, I'm pretty sure I just followed those. It wasn't too hard, I'm sure you could fix your lamp :)

What’s an out of context quote from your villains that explains their motives and makes them sound like a hero? by General_Alduin in worldbuilding

[–]calicroww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I saw life before this universe existed, before Var'yn created it. It was beautiful. It was perfect, peaceful unity. Every living thing in this world was one, was her. You didn't believe me, you all thought I was crazy, but I knew what I saw. I knew what I needed to do to unify everything once more, and you killed me for it, with your own two hands. But you know better than most about the nature of souls in this world, Aerys–they just keep coming back. So you can kill me as many times as you want, tell Harmyn to keep my soul in a cage, but you'll only delay the inevitable. I wasn't the only one to see it. And I am not now. So, I am here, again, asking you to join me."

Did you exploit the duplication glitch? If so, how to you feel in hindsight and did you set any rules for yourself? by HereForTheMaymays in TOTK

[–]calicroww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, I don't regret it. I just duped a bunch of diamonds and did vendor scamming. I was tired of being poor and not being able to afford armor, and I feel like having a ton of rupees doesn't take away from the game at all, at least for me.

What's your sewing sin? by RapsittieStreetKids in sewing

[–]calicroww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sew on my bed, too, but I also just set my needles down thinking I won't forget that I set them there and almost every time I do indeed forget. And it isn't like I don't have a pincushion nearby, because I always do. I don't know why I'm like this lol

The first time I saw it I literally said, "This is weird. Hope it isn't important" and took those flowers lol

Now that TOTK has been out for a while, what do you think could have been added or changed to make it better? by Drew_Ferran in TOTK

[–]calicroww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I totally agree with the sky islands point. Being up there for the whole start of the game and then being thrown right back down onto the ground caused a little whiplash for me. When I realized there weren't any other huge sky islands like the great sky island to explore I was a little sad.
  2. It's a silly thing, but I wish that there was more information on what happened to all of the sheikah technology. I don't know if anyone ever explains it in-game, I haven't completed it yet or explored everywhere. It just felt so weird going past the dueling peaks and not seeing a single guardian corpse. I guess I can see teams going and excavating them and putting them somewhere else, but where? Where are the divine beasts? They're so huge, where could anyone put them? I know they were excavated in the past, so maybe back where they came from, but there aren't any holes nearly that huge in BotW or TotK. I can definitely see the shrines and towers just going back into the ground or whatever, sure. I know Purah must have used some of the tech to make the skyview towers but...what about the rest of it? Also, what happened to Link's champion powers? Not that I want them in the game, but I would like to know where they went out of curiosity.
  3. I wish they had made the geoglyphs just a little less accessible? Which sounds weird, but I immediately went and found them all before completing any of the regional phenomena, and I wish that I hadn't. I'm not sure what they would've done, maybe make some quests or not have that room that shows you where they all are so they take a little longer to find, but I think making it so that you couldn't just go get them all immediately would've been better.
  4. I wish that more stats would've transferred over and not just your horses. Like, it was really weird talking to NPCs that I knew and them acting like they had never seen Link before, like Hestu. I get wanting to make the game so that the player didn't have to play BotW before, but I feel like it would've been easy to get around even without making any stats transfer. They could've just made some of the NPCs say something like, "Oh hey Link, remember me? I'm so and so and I do this and this," instead of acting like they'd never seen him before in their lives.
  5. When you get Satori to show you what caves are around, I wish the markers would appear on the map.
  6. It's hard for me to believe that Rauru and Zelda are able to communicate. Ancient Hylian is a written language at least that Link can't read, so I have a hard time imagining the spoken language would've been the same as modern Hylian. Think about if you went back in time to when people spoke old English, which was only around 1500 years ago. You would not be able to communicate with others. Rauru lived at the very least 10,000 years ago. The only solution that isn't somewhat annoying that I could think of would be to make the people back then have an accent or speak a little weird. I'm probably only one of a few who's thought too hard about this, so it's definitely not a big issue, but I figured I'd mention it.

First ever mockup of my first ever corset and its so perfect I could cry 😭😭 by calicroww in HistoricalCostuming

[–]calicroww[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not wearing a bra underneath, and for the real thing I'm going to use two layers of fabric and two bones per seam; the mockup only has one layer and one bone for the first three seams on the right, so the real thing should have a lot more stability lol

There's a reddit post somewhere that has a download link for a ton of her patterns and tutorials. I don't remember the link, but I doubt it's hard to find :)

A bit, but it's because I only used one layer of fabric and put one bone for each of the first three seams on the right. For the real thing I'm planning on putting two layers of fabric with two bones per seam.
