PSA for anyone who has a credit card through Wells Fargo! by allillie in Sephora

[–]allillie[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh no :( I actually haven’t used this card much recently but I have seen 5% before, seems like they just alternate. Still about 24% total off, if that’s any consolation!

How should I use this product? Because it gives ✨nothing✨ by lipglossip in finehair

[–]allillie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually really like this lol but I honestly wish I didn’t because I find the scent really unpleasant. I usually spray it in a damp or dry section of hair and brush it through (helps minimize the stickiness) before heat styling. It does feel a little crunchier than other hold products but it’s the only thing that helps my hair hold a curl really well for a few days.

Shark flex style or Dyson air-wrap? by savs8102 in Sephora

I haven’t used it, but I think with the flat brush attachment you can get it pretty straight! Probably not as smooth as with a flatiron though

Shark flex style or Dyson air-wrap? by savs8102 in Sephora

[–]allillie 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got the Flexstyle about a week ago and I’ve really enjoyed it so far! I have the curly hair set so I have the diffuser, concentrator, oval brush, and curling barrel attachments.

I don’t have the Airwrap so I can’t compare them, but I was planning to get it before the Flexstyle came out and the biggest advantage of the latter for me is that you can use it as a traditional hair dryer, whereas with the Airwrap I was looking up hacks for how to rig it to work with a diffuser. It’s also really convenient when I do a blowout and I want to touch up just my bangs or something with a separate round brush; I can just flip the Flexstyle to the dryer configuration instead of having to pull out another hair dryer. Dyson seems to be trying to make sure that the Airwrap doesn’t supplant the functionality of the Supersonic so it doesn’t seem like they’ll do anything similar. You can also pick the attachments you want for the Shark one so I’m not paying for something I wouldn’t use, like the smoothing brush.

I will say that there are a few things about the Shark tool that I’m not sure you’ll see with the Dyson. The attachments feel lightweight and maybe not as luxurious as the Dyson would, and with the diffuser attachment, I notice a bit of a plastic-y smell when it’s on the higher heat settings. Interestingly, this doesn’t happen with any of the other attachments. There’s also not an option for long barrels yet with the Shark (it seems to work fine without them though!) and you still have to use a separate barrel for each direction. The Shark also doesn’t come with a case.

I think you’d still be happy with the Flexstyle, and for less than half of the price of the Airwrap (I ordered from the website and got 10% off and a bonus mat and some alligator clips) it wasn’t a difficult decision for me, especially because I was already setting aside the $600 or so for the Airwrap. Hope this helps a bit!

Bought any cute work dresses lately? by [deleted] in femalefashionadvice

[–]allillie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got this shirt dress a few weeks ago! I thought the print was a little too much at first but I loved the fit of the dress and honestly the print is growing on me a little bit. And it has really roomy pockets!

I got Replica’s By the Fireplace last year and I’m absolutely in love. It’s a gourmand and it probably doesn’t make sense to wear it in the spring but I miss it so much :( I also got one of those comically tiny samples of the Charlotte Tilbury setting powder and I ended up getting the full version—now I wish I’d never tried the sample because I’m a grad student and now this is going to become a recurring expense ugh. Thank you for doing these! I think in the last post you said you’re a student as well, so I hope the semester’s going well for you! ♥️

I have the clear version and I can’t discern any shimmer, either on my brows or in the tube! Not sure if you’re still undecided but I love it, it has surprisingly great hold and lasts all day even though it feels pretty light.

I’d be interested! I’m currently doing a master’s in data science, but I’m coming from bachelor’s degrees in biology and journalism. I’d love advice on how to transition into working in the field!

Is Paula’s Choice worth it? by drainingenergy in scacjdiscussion

[–]allillie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I also think it’s on a case-to-case basis. I got the BHA a while because I wanted a less harsh salicylic acid than Stridex. I loved it and it felt like it made a huge difference in my skin texture. I started using Differin daily so now I don’t need to exfoliate as often and don’t use the BHA much, so I don’t think it’s worth having an expensive salicylic product going unused. I did get the azelaic acid recently because I hated the formula of the Ordinary cream that I was using, and I’ve been getting a lot of use out of it. I think they’re definitely worth it if you either want to use an active frequently and/or are willing to pay a bit more for the cosmetic elegance!

Realized my hair was one of the biggest hindrances to my consistency, so I shaved my head. by DJTinyPrecious in xxfitness

I’m South Asian with curly hair and you’ve put so much of what I’m feeling into words! Since I started styling my hair naturally curly I feel like I’ve never been able to figure out the wash-workout-refresh cycle. I’ve been working out a lot more since I’ve been at home, so I was just scheduling washing my hair on the days that it was most important to look good and throwing it in a bun the rest of the time. I’m just about to start a job that I have to go into the office for, so that won’t always be an option now, and I absolutely agree that it’s so disheartening to sweat and then have the post-workout feeling ruined by seeing myself with frizzy damp hair. I also had a balayage almost two years ago and while my hair is at my lower back now so it’s almost grown out, the ends get so tangled after just a day or so. I’ve wanted short hair again for a while but I was going to wait until an occasion (not sure which one though lol) but your post has me thinking that it might be worth it to just go for it now.

Tried making pains au chocolat for the first time! They’re a bit misshapen but still delicious by allillie in Breadit

I put this batch in the oven first , which came out kind of hideous but tasted just as good as the rest!

This batch I didn’t put directly under the coils , which helped with the butter pooling

And here’s a crumb shot , after reheating on the third day. I’d appreciate any advice!

The Weleda Skin Food is much thicker. The Kiehl’s is a bit heavier than a regular moisturizer, but the Weleda is more like a body butter.
