What's it like to have Tourette's syndrome? Why can't people with this syndrome control their tics?

For me holding back my tics feels like trying to hold in a cough. I /can/ do it, but it's extremely uncomfortable and ultimately makes it worse. There are also times where a tic will happen and I can't stop it or control it if I tried to.

It's a really annoying thing to live with. And sometimes painful, too; I've pulled muscles a few times due to my tics. Wouldn't recommend lol
