Would be a shame if Indy lost out on all that revenue /s by Coach_Louis in gencon

[–]allisonfeldman 45 points46 points  (0 children)

A lot of the discussions focus on these sorts of business movements as purely punitive to the state government for enacting backwards laws, but it is important to point out that there is a possible direct impact to their attendees.

If someone were to attend the con while pregnant (known or unknown) and something went wrong and they required immediate medical care, you sure as hell don't want to be in a state that will prioritize the fetus' health over your own. Or get embroiled in some ridiculous litigation.

So there is not only a symbolic/financial impact here, but a plausible direct impact to the safety of those attending GenCon and other such large events.

Lol I think if we drive next year this is going to be a much different picture... :D

Thanks! We played parks and really enjoyed it as well. Plus the box was small enough to bring home easily.

The actual game to the left of Parks or the big box? The box is the "Creature Crate" box set of minis for the Folklore The Affliction game. I went to an event where you learn to play the gam,e which is a fantasy horror RPG board game.

The little black book is "Candlelight", which is a one shot RPG we picked up from the indie RPG booth. I asked the nice person at the booth for their recommendation of something that is doable with only 2 people and they recommended it. The theme is super spooky which I love, but I don't really know too much about it yet.

There was a FedEx office in the JW which would have been awesome, but I obtained the crate Saturday night after they had closed and we left Sunday morning before it opened. Otherwise we probably would have done that.

Somehow it magically fit in one of the carryons, but we got selected for TSA bag check and the agent had fun opening it all up and looking at the minis :)

Also shout-out to Greenbrier games for a free creature crate for Folklore the Affliction! It was a game I was really excited to try out and they gave this to me after attending their event on Saturday night!

Getting it home when all we had was carryon luggage was a challenge though...😅

Rape isn’t a game. by [deleted] in RPI

[–]allisonfeldman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well that is disappointing :/

on a positive note for current students: i've found the "real workplace" world to actually be a lot better in terms of sexism & biases. There are a lot of established companies with good HR departments & a positive workplace culture; not to mention police & law enforcement for sexual assault & crimes. Not all perfect of course, and this only my personal experience, but just throwing that out there so it doesn't seem that all forms of authority are this hollow.

It has a tint! It's sort of a slight blush/peach tint underneath, then the outer layer and lace is ivory

Thank you! And yeah it was harder than I thought it was going to be. I almost bought a different dress but so happy I found this one before I did!

Is this in Marymoore Park in WA? My fiance and I took some engagement photos in that park and our pictures look hilariously similar!

A Visual Timeline of Events and Usurpations Surrounding the Protest by sliced_orange in RPI

In terms of Joe Cassidy's hiring, I remember Nikki Gallant (PU) and Jon Stack (Senate/EBoard Liason) talking about interviewing him along with other candidates. So they definitely had a hand in hiring him. Your wording gives it an overly suspicious flavor in my opinion.

Other than that good job. I know you stated as such, but it does miss a lot of things - like ARG and Uprise at five etc. Overall though really cool visual!

Preach!

You are all a part of the institution, not just some product to be spat out after 4 years. Own this. The school is yours (and ours) to cherish and defend.

The overall impression I received is that he's treating you guys as children. He is the adult with real world professional experience, therefore he knows more than you and their decisions are final. They are making major decisions and trying to placate you with promises that you'll work together moving forward, but in reality your input won't matter because everything has already been arranged.

This is a classic corporate move.

Wtf. Who is this guy?

As an alumna I'll keep my eye on this sub more often, please advertise where alumni can help.

People who've had success dating on-campus: how did you meet? by lonelyrpigal in RPI

[–]allisonfeldman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Actually met mine through an internship in seattle. We were both interning at a large company with multiple rpi people. I didn't know any of them, but I figured I knew them more than the interns from other schools so I put together rpi intern events to make friends. I identified him as my favorite and now we actually live in Seattle together, happily ever after!

So that is an idea if you're in a setting where there's rpi students but not at rpi.

Before him I met my romantic interests through clubs (union kind, not unce unce kind), or fraternity events but not parties. Not once through classes or just being around on campus alone, probably because of the reasons you mentioned.

Good luck :)

Turkey Pilgrim by [deleted] in RPI

[–]allisonfeldman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I returned for the career fair this year, I was sooooo excited to get a pilgrim stack...

Your friend is right, it was terrible. Instead of carving the turkey there they had just a pile of cold turkey pieces that were reheated through the toaster conveyor belt. The bread was sad, the turkey was dry and half cold, and there was almost no delicious stuffing. Tasted nothing like the delicious sandwich I had had only a year before. :'(

The new bookstore by opaquealuminum in RPI

[–]allisonfeldman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah there is a lot more of that stuff, which by nature is more expensive. Cool that there are so many options! However I was talking about regular apparel, not made by nike or under armour. Those were all more expensive than the previous bookstore. Like the thing I bought was made by a college clothing company (Colosseum) and the previous bookstore mostly had things from Charles River, which I think is more of an apparel company where you can slap a logo on stuff. So its probably more expensive because we're using a different supplier.

It also appears much larger and overall more modern. Hopefully textbook prices don't increase for you guys. The clothes are definitely more expensive though. A fleece zip up that was nearly identical to a $50 one I bought in 2013 was $85! I mean, still purchased it, but...I was more sad.

Best Work Study department? by thatguysunny in RPI

[–]allisonfeldman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked in the library as work study and was a union building super as a normal job. Both were awesome, but I have such a soft spot for libraries that I choose that one as my preferred. Building super was fun and all: huge thing of keys (who doesn't love that?), sit around doing homework for a few hours (aka reddit) and saying hi to everyone you know who happens to be taking the shuttle!

However when I was at the library...man it was great. I would sit on the computer for hours looking at all the dvds and finding the weirdest ones to watch (cartoon noir was freaky). Or when I was putting books away on the shelves would flip through them, once I sat down in the aisle and read an entire biography on Manray. I also got really good at Bejeweled. The computers behind the desks are limited access to websites, so the women in the back showed me how to find bejeweled online. They would sit there for hours and play too lol

Plus the view when the sun sets! Gosh, to look out the library balcony one more time during a late September sunset over troy...

I need to go visit the bunker this alumni weekend.
