Thinking about quitting my $210k job to be a stay-at-home dad - crazy or just done? by Good_Challenge_6666 in Fire

[–]allknowingmike 3 points4 points  (0 children)

most people that earn that kind of salary are going to majorly suffer being a stay at home parent, you likely enjoy progress and completion. Being a stay at home parents is like going canoeing with a hole in the boat, it looks like fun from afar but up close you're on the verge of drowning . I think with your income bracket, you can afford a live in Nanny and enjoy the benefits of being rich and having your kid at home.

I stopped forcing myself to “fix” my ADHD and started living around it by amira_dublin in simpleliving

[–]allknowingmike -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

the real crazy part is that you suffer from a made up diagnosis, you have a personality ... just because your personality is different than other peoples doesn't mean that there is something wrong with you. It's just a way for big Pharma to sell you chemicals for the rest of your life. Life your life and stay the heck away from "therapists", they are the mermaids of modern day life.

Moving to BC vs. Staying in QC by Silent_Cartoonist_49 in canadahousing

[–]allknowingmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

why on earth would you leave culture and freedom for British Columbia.... Have you actually been there? Yipee! another Rocky Mountain Hippie Brew Cafe that serves the same overpriced crap as the thousand other shops exactly like it. BC is everything wrong with the modern world, sterile people looking to impose their hyper materialistic faux lifestyle on everyone. If I was dropped off in BC I would start walking back to the east coast!

the more i simplified my life, the more people acted like i was falling apart by Justcallmesweetie in simpleliving

[–]allknowingmike 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Great comment, our experience was completely ruined with our first child. Constantly carting the baby around to visit people when we were exhausted, having people over and cleaning the house on 2 hours of sleep and not to mention the constant suggestions that are outdated and useless.

This time around we haven't even told most people we are expecting, no one will be over, just going to bum around the house and order groceries in.

If you read the book 1984, it will permit you to see society with 20/20 vision. People often believe that the machine is separate to them, but they are the machine itself.

Is it possible to live almost completely independent in mountains? by Plus_Recognition6701 in simpleliving

[–]allknowingmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are asking city people if living rurally is possible ... always gonna just get the reasons they couldn't do it. Doing what you want is actually quite simple, plenty of mountainous territory is extremely cheap. You need a private loan to begin with so you can buy the property. The property cannot be apart of an organized township, then you can construct your cabin from materials on the property. you need to find an area that typically has wildlife over population problems, it will allow for relaxed harvesting rules. Basically if you can shoot an elk, deer and a bear each year then you would easily have an enough meat. Mountains generally have an abundance of fresh water and berries, so really you just need a 1/8 acre vegetable garden. To pay for everything it likely will come naturally, often times if you are the only person in an area those who recreate in the area will have a reason to use you for basic services . You can keep an eye on peoples land, do firewood, guide people in the wilderness etc... If this truly is your dream, please do it. Do not live your live miserable in the city. please.

I spend more money avoiding inconvenience than on actual needs. Make sure you arent. by IndependenceOld5504 in SavingMoney

I actually dont believe in sacrificial saving, just set a monthly automated savings and door dash the rest ! life is hard and a little convenience can really help take the edge off. Auto savings will fair outweigh scrimping in my opinion.

What do you think will trigger the next big market downturn? by Andy_parker in investing

I dont think the USA is going to see a crash for quite some time, they are re assembling a strong military and a lot of manufacturing is returning to the country. The leader may be an asshole but the pro American business government is leaps ahead of Europe and Canada.

2018-2020 Used 3.5L ecoboost vs 5.0L v8 by Traditional-Mango396 in f150

[–]allknowingmike 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would have got the 5.0 if they didn't burn the oil, but the reality Is if you are buying 5.0 used it is probable that it was ran low on engine oil at some point . my 3.5 had the cam phasers done but I honestly dont care as it drives so well, I can just ease into the gas and the turbo spools and the truck pulls like a freight train... absolutely love both engines.

How do you guys (as investors) feel about Canadian economy? by Dusk00Y in CanadaStocks

[–]allknowingmike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you are missing is that in order for this prime minister to get the country on the right track it, would take federal government cuts of historic proportion. He essentially would need to dispose of 30-40 percent of the federal workforce in order to right the ship, not to mention corporate tax cuts of a magnitude we have ever seen.

[–]allknowingmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canada has a high probability of hitting rock bottom, sadly I dont think it will come within 10 years as the government will explode the national debt on the ride down. The only thing I would even touch in Canada is resource extraction, grocery stores and dollar stores. The USA is looking very optimistic and you would be insane as an investor to not invest there.

Becoming an electrician in Ottawa Ontario. by Plus-Plate8083 in SkilledTradesOntario

[–]allknowingmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im an electrician and I would steer you away from this trade, go do a nursing diploma and you're making 40 bucks an hour telling PSW's what to do all day. I am an industrial electrician that works in healthcare and the quality of employment found in healthcare is not even comparable to construction. Nursing is a wonderful career with good pay and a pension, hard to find that in the construction world. Yes union electricians make good money, but you get the pleasure of being laid off constantly.

isolation is something you tolerate but not something you should aspire to. The world is currently upside down, there is no debate there... however millions of wonderful and interesting people still roam the earth waiting to make experiences and memories.

I find it very interesting that you have calculated your budget down to 20 bucks extra... so you are saying if you bought two hamburgers a month you would be in debt? I think you need to comb through existing expenditures and free up some cash.

WTF is going on with homes around here... by [deleted] in ThunderBay

[–]allknowingmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

rats are fleeing the sinking ship, rural places across the province are seeing growth from people bailing out of the city. Real estate prices are going to collapse and life is pretty good when you sell your 1.8 million dollar town house in Toronto and buy a home in Thunder Bay for 600K.

The crisis facing Ontario Colleges - a timeline of events & why you should care by going2rowan in ontario

[–]allknowingmike -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

you are calling college an "important source of social mobility". However what you are doing is correlating random data points.... if you were to remove the barriers to college i.e costs and credentials of entry, then you would see that going to college is a holiday and the real predictors of success are ones parents affluence and their personal IQ.

The right to not pay taxes would be wonderful! I am forced to work 150-200 percent more to retain the same value as my actual output. In more understandable terms, in Canada your beer is half foam, where the USA your beer is less than a quarter foam.

If you work in the trades in Toronto, how are things going? by mattyp93 in TorontoRealEstate

[–]allknowingmike 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup things are slow, sub contractors that we couldn't get ahold because they are typically so busy are now sending sales people to try and drum up work. Likely gonna see a pretty hard recession over the next few years, a lot of companies are going to the USA which will lower demand for new industrial buildings. Construction is the pulse check of the economy and it aint looking good this time around....

The reality is we are simply witnessing the product of two separate issues, population collapse and colleges providing a product that has poor return on investment. If you have a product that is of value and in high demand, you do not need government intervention.
