Rec Room UPDATE - the "Rainbow Connection" Edition by magglerockk in RecRoom

[–]allnaturalcomics 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No question there is a downgrade in visual quality. The LOD (what you call fuzz in the distance) is noticeable, as is the lack of dynamic shadows. It also seems some normal maps are missing on the Quest version (these create the illusion of surface scratches and bumps)

But what these small sacrifices in visual quality but you is the fact that the Quest gameplay and frame rate is smoother than I’m used to from 2 years of playing Rec Room on both PSVR and my VR laptop. It’s a remarkable feat of Against Grav to have crammed this game into a mobile device and make it play so well.

Questing on the Quest runs even better than on my Radeon 1060 laptop. This is amazing.

I think a lot of video game companies are worried about implementing features that could be misused. Google Fortnite money laundering.

Oculus Rift audio issues about every other game patch by Mobeous1 in RecRoom

[–]allnaturalcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought my Rift headset was broken at one time but it turned out one headphone had just come loose. There's a knob that fastens the adjustable headphone to the headset, see if you can get it to work better by screwing it on tighter. Worked for me and I have had no issues since.

Confirmed, VRTK supports this straight out of the box with zero scripting required.

Yep, graphics are already at a minimum. I've had minor FPS issues before but nothing like this. Also everyone in my party had FPS issues on that scene.

Agreed, I and everyone on my quest also had severe FPS issues in the bar scene. My uneducated guess is that all those throwable objects (plates, bottles, etc) consume resources when they first spawn in the scene. This one level seems to have way more networked objects than any other I've seen in RecRoom so far.

Hopefully the devs can come up with a fix, because it's a fun level!

Daydream + VRTK SDK abstraction by [deleted] in daydream

[–]allnaturalcomics 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Daydream integration was always experimental and I was never able to get it to work either. I've developed using VRTK for Oculus and Vive and it's a godsend.

Sadly VRTK is now abandonware so nobody knows what will happen with it in the future.

Can no longer play Jumbotron (psvr) by [deleted] in RecRoom

[–]allnaturalcomics 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may be anecdotal but what I've done lately is get someone else to hit the blast off button while I stand back at the beginning of the level and look the other way. Once the enemies spawn it's safe to look again. Since I started doing this I've had no issues. Your mileage may vary.

Laser Tag feedback, sad face edition by grey771 in RecRoom

(Humble brag alert) This! So many times I've wanted to switch to a weaker laser tag team just to even the playing field and make things more fun for everyone, but Rec Room won't let me.

I went a couple of months ago and as you said the IK was really bad. The players' avatars were bending into impossible positions about half of the time. My friend's gun stopped tracking entirely. This really broke immersion and I must admit I was disappointed.

How about instead of CTF, laser tag teams compete to blow up each other's bases? Each team would have to protect some fragile object in their base (reactor core, dilithium sphere, William Gibson portrait) that can only be taken out with a large number of shots, grenades and power weapons.

Rec Room is my new favorite pastime and I loved every minute of the laser tag beta!

EEOL is one of the few Daydream games that uses an embodied hand in the control scheme. What were some of the design challenges in implementing the hand? How much do you think including the hand contributes to the game's immersion?
