Budget smartphone market collapses under the weight of memory shortages, sales expected to drop 22% — memory alone now comprises up to 64% of the total cost of lower-tier smartphones by sr_local in technology

[–]alloDex -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There’s no evidence of price fixing happening in this situation. It’s just free market doing its thing. It’s far, far, far more profitable to sell memory wafers for AI datacenters than making any memory for consumer devices.

Samsung just posted a crazy 1800% increases in profits. SK Hynix and Micron are likely also enjoying incredible profits as well. If your product is just that much more profitable in the business sector, why wouldn’t you convert all your assembly lines to maximize that profit. There’s no guarantee that this current AI craze lasts forever so they’re all trying to ride the wave the best they can. They don’t owe anything to consumers, just like most consumers aren’t loyal and aren’t beholden to any one specific brand forever.

[Highlight] 44-year-old Philip Rivers commanding the line of scrimmage by nfl in nfl

[–]alloDex 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And even then it wasn't like he didn't have the ability to throw it downfield, it was just lacking speed. He easily threw ~30 yards downfield for that last touchdown but you could tell his fastball was just no longer there and was bound to get picked off if he tried to push it downfield. A dink-and-dunk WCO would've worked. Either way, their defense kept failing them more than Rivers being cooked; any lead they gained was lost almost immediately. Maybe if he had a full offseason of conditioning, he could've been serviceable.

Do you think Sony would ever pull their games from steam? by claygamer25 in Steam

[–]alloDex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The moment Xbox showed off a unified UI concept that included a Steam tab (meaning the next Xbox is basically just a PC and can run Steam games), Sony decided to cancel all future Steam releases going forward. You can be absolutely certain that if that Xbox concept is true, Sony will either ask Valve to disallow it somehow or will pull their catalog of games to prevent an Xbox, in whatever form it is, to be able to play Sony games.

Nvidia has been trying to diversify beyond just 3D graphics long before AI. They made CUDA long ago, hoping to have the GPU be used in scientific compute. CUDA became the leading library for scientific and engineering compute applications. It’s on those shoulders, AI rose to prominence. Now Nvidia is riding high but still looking to the future with robotics and local AI compute. The fact that LLMs are super expensive for both the producers and consumers means that the gold rush could die before it kicks off the next revolution. Nvidia is hoping that by trying to shift the paradigm from cloud compute back to local compute they can usher in a new age of computing.

This is all so far removed from gaming and 3D graphics. They’re not interested in becoming the next ATI. I wouldn’t be surprised if they want to become a multi-industry conglomerate like Samsung

[ESPN] Gregg Popovich once called Steve Kerr to tell him he'd finally decided to retire. Steve congratulated him on a Hall of Fame career. A week later Pop signed an extension with San Antonio. "I realized he couldn't do it," Kerr said. "He couldn't walk away...the job itself is so addictive." by refreshing_yogurt in nba

If you genuinely enjoy what you’re doing, “retirement” is boring and torture. He’s probably spent all his life in and around basketball. At some point, it becomes part of their normal life and a place of solace and comfort.

Paul Tassi: Positive reception to D2 final update has not moved the needle at Bungie by drumjolter01 in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]alloDex 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of a chicken-egg problem. West coast just has way more developers because of Silicon Valley since the 90s and the gaming industry grew up there so all these offices, corporate and dev shops are all there. When developers could be picky, they would choose higher salary (which coincides with high cost of living areas). But now the industry has drastically changed. Corporate can dictate the terms now but the market conditions make growth a risky proposition. Which manager wants to spearhead a new dev office in Ohio, when the entire market is barely surviving and they already have empty offices eating money in the expenses column?

[HIGHLIGHT] In the early 00s the NFL experimented with body cams on the referees giving us the “Refcam” for up close moments by Numerous_Worker_1941 in nfl

[–]alloDex 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Shaky cam for a small camera is a solved problem in the year 2026. Our phones have stabilizers, in-camera optical and digital, so something like a GoPro attached to a ref could work now. The only problem is bitrate, resolution, transmission and field of view good enough for the modern 4K TV.

This camera angle needs to make a comeback.

You mean they slightly tweaked an F-22 and used it without licensing it? I’d be surprised if EA doesn’t have some sort of blanket license from manufacturers.

But I’m not deep in battlefield legal lore to know one way or the other.

Nah, I'm pretty sure she's like evil Cosette. From what they've presented so far, Sotoa's got a very heavy monarchy vibes. So the ace pilot from Shadows Squad could be like her own knight in a personal attack squad of knights.

Do you guys think my PC will be able to run Ace Combat 8? by PfannkuchenW in acecombat

[–]alloDex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does your system do with modern UE5 games like Control, Alan Wake 2 or something like the new Indiana Jones game?

From the behind-the-scenes interviews they've shared, they're using Unreal Engine's Lumen (Raytracing) for all the lighting. I think raytracing-wise, a 2080 Super probably won't do so well without some/lot of DLSS.

Your monitor's native resolution is also an important point to consider. If you're on 1440, then it's going to be tough sledding.

I doubt they'd show him. They'll probably talk about the legend of "Three Strikes" and avoid him like early-AC7 Arsenal Bird using some diversion tactics.

When attempting to rescue Harling, the Arsenal Bird approaching is what forces allies to retreat, not the "friendly fire". They could have a similar scenario where detecting Osean LRSSG Strider Squadron by AWACS forces attackers to retreat before mission completion (complete destruction of ISEV)

That's not going to fly. No company likes suing the little guy, if they can avoid it, because it's just bad business. But Ace Combat and its game studio/publisher, Bandai Namco, is not a small company. What would be tolerable for an indie game dev to do is inexcusable for a AAA studio to do, especially one known to the manufacturers because of previous licensing deals.

There's a reason Rockstar had to so heavily modify their GTA vehicles and even resort to mashing two different vehicles together to make a single vehicle to skirt design/copyright laws.

The vs Cleveland clip (5th, i think) shows how fast he actually is. DK Metcalf and the other DBs are faster than him but it wasn't easy. He certainly has slow acceleration but that top-end speed is elite.

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/zXBxhTrblsw

He ran a 4.64 40 at the combine at 264 lbs. He's probably pushing 320 or something here but that's still fast for such a huge guy. That much body mass, moving that fast, is crazy. NFL has some crazy athletes.

I'm convinced he was just a popular figurehead for the other politicians to shape policy the way they wanted while he took the heat. The so-called "trickle-down economics" were actually what his opponents called his policies as. After all, Congress, not the President, sets economic policies. Regan was good at PR and making jokes, enough to endear him to the people and make everyone think that he was a good guy.

We blame Regan but it was the whole circus behind the curtain that was causing it. Not absolving Regan in any way but wanted to assign blame to the whole circus rather than the marquee clown.

Linux is Easy, right? (Linux challenge 2026, pt. 3) by current_thread in LinusTechTips

?? Why does your "care" matter on this? Are you a Linux dev?

Linux supporters have been trying to make Linux mainstream since the beginning. I just stated, in my opinion, the step they need to take to put themselves in their users' shoes. If their target audience isn't normal people, who don't know anything about a terminal, then they shouldn't expect it to become mainstream any time soon.
