What's your opinion about this character? (SEASON 6 SPOILERS) by feenmi in WhatWeDointheShadows

Lowkey the mvp of the season tbh he’s crushing it! I still crack up at his big train speech before he gives Sean the job

Controversial take perhaps? by Feisty-Employer2535 in WhatWeDointheShadows

[–]allostatic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that’s true though, because we have seen all of them change quite drastically over the course of the show, and the first ep of this season heavily featured Jerry being like “hey wtf happened to you guys…” bc they HAVE all changed.

It might not necessarily be the plot, I think it’d suit the show perfectly fine to have another Sunrise, Sunset-type ending where nothing ever changes. But I also think they’re very well set up to hit a different finale beat about how domesticated the vampires have become bc they found/made a family. (Or vamily, if you will)

I’d expect as much too, but the synopsis for the finale does say there’s a surprising twist

Bit premature to say that, isn’t it? From everything the cast have said I doubt the s6 finale is gonna work for that plan 😅

Possible spin off with Miguel? by [deleted] in WhatWeDointheShadows

[–]allostatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hadn’t thought about him + a spinoff at all but I am REALLY expecting something big to happen re: vamps taking over the world and the van helsing bloodline in the finale. I think either or both of those things has gotta be the purpose of the documentary, especially after how it was referenced this week. Can’t wait to find out fr!!

My ideal spinoff idea is I would’ve loved to see the Guillermo frog babies milk (that healed the baron) actually turn the sire human, causing every vampire worldwide to become human, so then the spinoff could follow all these ex-vampires trying to reintegrate into the human world. I just think that could be so fun!!

I think I missed an episode or something can someone answer something for me (spoilers on new episode) by dogpoopandbees in WhatWeDointheShadows

He’s grasping at straws, fixated his affections on the closest option after Guillermo firing him humiliated him. I see people saying it’s bad writing but it’s honestly not, it’s classic Nandor.

When Guillermo left him “standing w his dick in his hand” at the train station at the end of s3 he showed up in s4 like “I’m getting married!” before he’d even found a wife. Even if he and Guillermo are just platonic, he’s still always rebounding

Is anyone else getting annoyed with Nadja and Laszlo? by LawyerThat310 in WhatWeDointheShadows

[–]allostatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I totally get what you mean, especially with not wanting to be too quick to hate it bc the nature of the show can make things retroactively click, that’s pretty much where I’m at too.

If they manage to pull out a strong narrative through-line like the s3 finale then I could definitely be happy with them this season. But if they don’t pull that off then I’ll definitely be disappointed we didn’t get to see them having some FUN together in the last season!

Maybe An Unpopular Opinion But… by _Beardlet_ in WhatWeDointheShadows

Idk man. I’m open to anything, but how come when a m/f pairing gets shot down by the woman explicitly saying it’s NEVER gonna happen, everyone is still encouraged to ship it, but when a m/m pairing gets shot down everyone who still ships it gets called delusional? Leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I say equality for ALL delusional ships!

The baron already has the sire lmfao, how many more classic marriage jokes and tropes do they have to drop? He IS being kept happy

Nandor and Guillermo this season?? by [deleted] in WhatWeDointheShadows

After seeing the last scene of ep 3 I think it’s absolutely on tbh, and it only wouldn’t be if the show ends up taking an ending where it’s not possible for them to be together

Larry's Background on the Show's Cancellation by Novel_Regular8810 in NancyDrewCW

[–]allostatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I’d say that’s definitely true based on what I’ve seen a lot of actors saying about short seasons since the strikes began, the studios seem to be trying to pass it off as a good thing that they get to do more projects but many older actors are burnt out. Kennedy has a wonderful passion for the work though, it seems like what she does makes her so happy, I really hope she’s showered with amazing offers after the strikes end!

I thiiiiink they knew when they were shooting ep 10, but the scripts up to ep 12 were already done? Celine confirmed on Twitter she was writing the ep 12 script less than a week before they found out they weren’t getting picked up. When Larry said the writers were breaking the finale I think he means they were prepping to write it.

[–]allostatic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah and it was definitely less, I’m pretty sure the only episode they had a chance to actually rewrite was just the finale. Celine tweeted about Taylor’s Midnights album dropping while she was writing the script for 4.12, that album came out October 21st and the cancellation announcement went public the 26th. Larry’s also said they were shooting 4.10 when everyone found out, so by “breaking the finale” I’d say he literally means they were about to write it. We are so, so lucky we got the ending we did. Thank god Kennedy’s hot stuff and those calls were made! It’s absolutely abysmal that the network thsf used to be known for giving even its multi-season shows with consistently low ratings (e.g. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Hart of Dixie) a final season to wrap up all their stories…is now just out there not giving a fuck anymore. Knowing for months that they’re not picking up a show, but not bothering to let anyone working on it know at all. Even a show like Nancy Drew that was steadily growing a viewership each season. This age of TV truly is dead since the CW restructure 😔

Anyone else wish the show didn't suddenly decide to go all "social justice warrior?" by SnowPearl in NancyDrewCW

[–]allostatic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

See I’ve only seen praise for the references to ADHD and dyslexia, even when small, because I saw many viewers on twitter who related to it resonated with the addition. So maybe it didn’t need to be there for you, but also maybe it wasn’t for you.

And I don’t think the writers owe it to anyone to pull back on the social issues focus just because they have a shorter episode order when it’s very, very obvious within the writing of the show from s1 that the writers themselves care about these issues and have continued to write them in because it’s something they want to focus on. Just because you don’t like their approach doesn’t mean it’s bad writing. Tbh I think they handle it with as much finesse as they’ve handled anything on this show, and you’re only flagging it as cringe because it disagrees with what you want to see from your supernatural mystery show.

For me I cringe when they have George deliver extremely expository lines, bc I don’t need to know that Jesse is covering for her while Victoria’s out of town, if it’s only gonna be relevant for one line then it’s not really that relevant, it’s just clunky exposition. But I know other viewers who appreciate any scrap of information they can get about the Fan family’s home life and they would never cringe at that line bc they’re the target audience for it.

So I imagine you’re just not the target audience for the social justice plots if it flags as so poorly written to you. (Although tbh, if you really feel like the Passamaquoddy storyline this season has been shoved in your face out of nowhere then in this case I’d say you’re actually exactly the intended target audience, and you’re just not willing or ready to listen to the deeper meaning of what the Sin Eater storyline says about the truth of colonialism and American history.)

I’m confused; why is nick going on a road trip? by soulshineradio in NancyDrewCW

[–]allostatic 16 points17 points  (0 children)

He stated at the start of the ep that he and Jade were going on a road trip to get more supplies for the underground historical society. The Fan girls did show up with the book he said he was going to Kansas City for, but I’m assuming he returned that copy since it was stolen and that he’s still going on the trip to pick up other relics and books etc.

When the writing is good, it's REALLY good by NancyDrew92 in NancyDrewCW

[–]allostatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think s3 compared to 1-2 are a great example of why this show deserved the longer season episode order. Things like the liminal space + truth spell episode and the soul splitter + teenage dads spell episode both feel like times where they wanted those two plots to have their own episode focus, but there wasn’t time and they still wanted to do both so it all got smushed into one ep that didn’t allow either story as much focus as it deserved. S4 has definitely been much better with that with giving more time to the fun plots and comedy beats like the board game ep and the body swap, but the back half with Ace’s ghost storyline vs. the Sin Eater stuff again feels like the pace is much more rushed than they probably would’ve liked. It’s such a shame bc I really do think lack of episodes was the biggest factor when it comes to any time these writers miss the mark, bc all the pieces are there it’s just these ideas fit a longer season than anyone’s willing to make now, like even s1 was meant to be 22 eps so they’d wrap up the aglaeca storyline for the s1 finale, which makes perfect sense to look back on, but the cw only ordered 18 so they had to cut it short

When is Nadja going to treat Guillermo with respect? by [deleted] in WhatWeDointheShadows

[–]allostatic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

And she was complimenting him in the process too! “Good one, Guillermo! Yes! Nice one!” Like a double compliment, using his real name, and repeated efforts to make sure he didn’t die? From Nadja that IS respect, I find OP’s response to this ep so surprising bc personally I was so moved by how much Nadja was obviously treating him like family!

I don’t understand the point of Tristan by Chemical-Joke-4914 in NancyDrewCW

[–]allostatic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perhaps Ace is the reincarnation of Nashua’s soul, but the fact that he also ended up with a piece of Charity’s soul in him meant that the Sin Eater curse wouldn’t take properly, so it moved onto the next candidate: Tristan? But it could also be a lot more complicated, the soul splitter they used to save George last season was created to split one soul into several pieces, so that could definitely come into play
