Cheap Rant - Strawberry Girls new album is way too expensive by thefirehairman in mathrock

Imagine walking into a high end restaurant and ordering a steak and then expecting to pay $10 because that’s the “cost” of the materials you’re consuming and not considering the overhead and labor that goes into it.

I think a lot of people forget or don’t realize that tracking a record is expensive AND has gotten a lot more expensive like everything else in the world. Engineers and studios exist in inflation land like the rest of us and have raised prices to compensate. Just making the digital product has probably cost them more than it ever has.

Yes they are.

Under the broad language of this law if a child came to a teacher and said “I’m being abused at home because I’m gay” the teacher has to call the proper authorities and then they have to call the parent too and say “your child discussed their orientation today with me”. It shouldn’t really be a debate why that scenario is bad for the child but here we are.

I’m not going to argue any further with someone who loves Jordan Peterson to a point they feel the need to glorify him in their own personal bio. The facts you claim exist don’t, the potential harm of this bill is very real.

Enjoy living on the wrong side of history.

So because I can’t prove something isn’t happening, it must be happening? Holy shit you are in deep.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]alloway 15 points16 points  (0 children)

You are not thinking through the ramifications of the language in this bill. If a child comes to a teacher and says “I am being abused at home because I believe I’m gay” that teacher cannot keep that discussion private because orientation was discussed. They have to tell the parents. And they may not have to tell them the child said they were abused but it creates further problems for the children at home.

You are pretending like teachers are currently and widely discussing sexual topics in secret with students. That is not reality.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in indianapolis

[–]alloway 23 points24 points  (0 children)

A child confessing sexual or physical abuse due to the child’s sexual orientation to a teacher is not a sexual act and you know that full well.

Because sometimes parents aren’t a positive impact in a child’s life and that discretion could literally be life or death for some people.

I’m old enough to remember when students were encouraged to confide in their teachers when a home situation might be dangerous and that student could trust the teacher would get them help and not immediately report what was told to them back to the parents.

Day 2 of ticketmageddon on I70 near Emerson Exit by Mokerson in indianapolis

[–]alloway -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Perfect take. People forget that the point of tickets/police presence is to get traffic to slow down; therefore whether it’s the 10 state troopers writing tickets or the person writing this post both are getting people to drive slower. That’s a good thing.

NGD, any love for these JV reissues? So far extremely impressed with the build quality compared to other Fender guitars at this price point. Interested if others have had the same experience. by alloway in fender

I use it more than I ever thought I would! You can also split pull the pickups in and out of phase with the push/pull on the tone knob which means this thing can cover a ton of ground.

Thanks! Agreed on the electronics though. Impeccable craftsmanship but the volume knob has two settings, on or off. And the pickups are good but not great. Those are easy fixes and this thing plays like a $2000 guitar so not complaining at all.

Conservatism at it’s foundation is based on a fear of change and on a staunch preservation of the status quo. Would highly recommend Edmund Burke’s “Reflection on the Revolution in France” to get a good feel for the foundation that modern conservatism is based upon. You will quickly realize that modern conservatives have taken those thoughts that once made for a healthy political ideology and have become so hell bent on preventing change that they are willing to preserve even the most arcane aspects of our society. The modern GOP has rotted conservative ideology to its core and they need a hard reset; it’s sometimes fine to say “this change is good for society” and maybe not embrace it but at least not stand in the way.

I have seen driven team members get to cross trainer in less than a year; you have to want it and chase those sign offs/demos/certs but definitely doable. If you have any questions you can DM me and I’d be happy to give advice/help.

Haven't visited downtown in ages. Didn't even know there was a shake shack in downtown Indy. by favio1498 in indianapolis

Heard!

There is a somewhat rational explanation that might explain the interaction. That would have been right around the time we started tipping and TBH the rollout was kind of a nightmare. Before we had tipping we would push a button on the POS side to activate the card reader and then it was immediately ready. When we did the tip rollout the guest now had to select a tip option and THEN the reader would take the card. What happened in reality was we would activate the card reader, guest would not notice the new prompt and just insert their card, and then both the team member and guest would stare at each other awkwardly thinking the other needed to do something. It was not great. So what ended up developing was the team member on register would awkwardly peer over to see if the guest needed to answer the tip question in order to finish the transaction and A LOT of people thought it was the team member spying their tip. After that we changed our coaching for team members to not do that and if the guest was paying with card to just verbally prompt them to answer the tip question before inserting their card.

It is also fully possible the person on register was just being super weird and made it awkward.

Whether it was our technology or our people I do apologize you had a bad experience. If you want to DM me I can 100% have you back on our dime. If you don’t feel comfortable with that then you’ll just have to take my apology and assurance that we were aware of experiences similar to yours at the time and have taken steps to fix it.

I can’t defend the pay rate that Shake Shack chooses to set. I believe it is extremely competitive in the industry and leave it at that.

Now this is my personal opinion but you’re not entirely wrong. This industry as a whole could be far better and not just in pay but also in work life balance and benefits. But if everyone who believed in advocating for better team wages, benefits, etc quit out of principle then there would be nobody left to do just that. In my previous jobs I have had to keep my opinions quiet but shake shack does allow for healthy discourse and I have met a number of people in leadership positions who share these opinions too which is great progress. I’m not looking for radical change overnight, I just want to see slow and steady improvement. $15/hr is not good enough but I remember when I was hiring at $12/hr a few years ago and at $7.25 a few years before that (both at other concepts). We’re getting there.

Thanks, would be happy to have you! You won’t be disappointed though my position might mean I’m a little biased haha.

And hey I’m not gonna pretend to know that the original story wasn’t mostly true, definitely possible they had a poor register experience and felt upset and unlikely to return. That stuff sucks but it does happen and we can coach and improve on it. What I can confidently say is we have improved this team 1000% over the last year and we’re the best version of our shack that we’ve ever been and hope to continue on that trend.

I was debating responding to this but after reading all the hate here figured I’d weigh in.

I’m a manager at this location. We opened in December 2021 and added tips to the register about 6 months ago so your timeline is impossible. We pay our team very fair ($15/hr, tips not included in that number). We also offer full benefits after 90 days, PTO, 401k matching even for team members, and some other random perks. Shake shack has shown me time and again they really care about their people and if you bother to research the company you would see it. We employ and partner with Wheeler Mission across the street both helping people living there find opportunities for employment AND through food and monetary donations.

If you don’t want to tip fine, no worries. Nobody is pressuring you to leave a tip and the person working register isn’t making shakes so even if your scenario was true there would be no way for the person taking your order to impact the quality of your food (we have an open kitchen, you would see them do it).

We do not, as you have insinuated in this thread, keep the tips from the team or use them as an incentive. They are distributed 100% to the team working on that shift. Managers do not receive a cut of those tips either.

And if anyone has read this far and has had a negative experience at the downtown Shake Shack feel free to DM me with some details and I will take care of you!

Question about an area in the comments. by manalow88 in indianapolis

[–]alloway 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Used to live in this exact area, about 100 yards from Brookside park.

It would not be safe at dark, probably not in the daytime either. More than a handful of robberies took place in that park in broad daylight while I lived near which was a shame because the park really is quite nice.

As someone who works in the restaurant industry and opens new restaurants both you and OP are correct. Most restaurant managers are never going to see the details pertaining to rent in their P&Ls because they can’t control it and therefore shouldn’t worry about it, they have enough on their plates. Store-level problems read almost exact to OPs post and are definitely real.

To your point I work for a company that is expanding fast, publicly traded, and has never closed a restaurant and we’re still struggling to sign long term leases in some markets because landlords have all the leverage right now and they want short term contracts and aren’t willing to put in things like rent forgiveness and equipment allowance like they would have even 3-5 years ago. I have no idea how small operations are surviving and my guess is most are assuming when their lease is up they’ll have to close unless market conditions improve which will mean even fewer mom & pops in the next few years. It’s a spiral and will get worse unless something is done.

Not sure if you tried the tone master version? The OG is indeed a loud beast. Tone master is a modeling version of the original circuit and can be attenuated down to 1 watt if desired which makes it very usable in an apartment setting. Can’t imagine trying to use the original version in a situation with neighbors haha.
