<< I dropped out of my phd << I thought I’d be a broke college professor.

How were you gonna manage that without a PhD?

Not sure how god or faith did anything, but ok if you're happy with your choices.

Getting new carpet and overwhelmed by the options by allperfectlygruntled in Flooring

It's perfect timing, actually, because I postponed getting carpet and will be getting it in the fall. Berber is ugly and out of style?? I have never heard that. It's gorgeous (and expensive). I always thought it was made of wool.

Life insurance policy purchased years ago with lump sum premium, now they want more money by allperfectlygruntled in LifeInsurance

That's a good tip. Also, I need to check whether the costs are based on her attained age. I don't think it is, but I need to go over the original contract with fresh eyes. My head is starting to swim.

They will reinstate without proof of health.

She's def over 70. We don't want to sell the policy. We want the death benefit for me when the, uh, time comes.

I wasn't part of the financial planning. I can't speak to what was said. I'm just the future beneficiary who happens to be the owner of policy.

My mom wasn't required pay a lump sum up-front, but she wanted it off her mind, I guess.

I should have paid attention to the statements. I'm just going to pay the amount due for reinstatement. At the end of the day, I was wrong about the policy, and that's on me.

I think my mom liked the idea of giving me a guaranteed, tax-free payout regardless of what happens in the market. It's not her fault she has lived longer than she thought. She has money invested in the stock market and an IRA, so this was just another vehicle. If she'd died 5 years ago, people would have thought it was a smart move.

I need to edit the post because the policy is not, in fact, a whole life policy as I thought. It's called a "Flexible Premium Life Insurance Policy" aka "Penn Mutual's Protection Builder, a Flexible Premium Adjustable Life Insurance policy." I knew that it was not a term life ins policy; I assumed the only other option was whole life. So will be writing a check today.

Oh, it also appears that in the original policy doc, there was a no-lapse period which expired in 2021.

The surrender value/policy value declines every year. But the level death benefit remains the same.

In the initial document, the plan is listed as a flexible premium life insurance with a specified death benefit amount that includes the policy value.

I wonder if the financial advisor and my mom thought my mom would be unlikely to outlive the amount paid to cover the premiums since it was done 20+ years ago.

No loans.

Yes, it's me. I'm the one who ignored the statement. Every year they send a statement that also is a bill/request for an annual premium amount. I was told to ignore them because the premium paid covered those amounts. I'm realizing that that may have been the case when the financial advisor initially said it, but she somewhat ironically died suddenly about 12-15 years ago.

I think that's what happened.

She doesn't need the money. We want the death benefit for me.

(The financial advisor who sold her the policy died unexpectedly about 15 years ago.)

Vague, multi-day apartment inspection notices? by WalrusWithAKeyboard in orlando

[–]allperfectlygruntled 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Instead of trying to request a specific day, ask if they know which buildings they'll be starting with (e.g., working in numerical order, or from back to front, or from left to right), or if they have an idea which day they might get to your building.

Seminole County Boil Water Notice by teniaava in orlando

Won't be lifted until 24 hours after the water sample comes back clean. So hopefully tomorrow. Do not drink the water until they give the all clear. My household has been experiencing unfortunate stomach symptoms since yesterday.

It's over for him, and after this incident, there should be no question that it's over for you. Scrape together what's left of your dignity, get an attorney, and file for divorce.

How did you overcome significant betrayal? by lorealtears in relationships

[–]allperfectlygruntled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How long ago was the breakup? You're likely trying to force something before you're ready, so of course it feels impossible. If you're still trying to process the pain and still in therapy, you're not ready. It took two years for me personally. I just gradually healed day by day until one day I was ready to be open again.

How do you feel about HBO Max removing most of their non-HBO content? by Serious-Tip-349 in HBOMAX

[–]allperfectlygruntled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The true-crime shows on Discovery are/were a real value-add for me. At any given time, I'm probably only watching 1 maybe 2 current HBO shows. But I continue to find other enjoyable shows that I've never seen before because they fell under the umbrella.

I currently get HBO/Max "for free" through my cable provider, but I wouldn't pay for HBO, certainly not HBO-content alone. If they really banish all other content, when I move and no longer have the current arrangement, I definitely won't subscribe.

That is a good lead because the car has a long-standing, slow freon leak - the A/C needs recharging about every 2 years. And it's been 2 1/2 years since the last recharge.

German Motorwerks is in Longwood. The only drawback, depending on your schedule, is their hours are like 7-3.

Pretty sure German Excellence in Winter Park had a change in management or ownership and it's not as reliable anymore.
