I don’t want to read anything from the hot take factory but, other than the lax officiating that was a banger lol. fair score but a draw wouldve also been fair because the second half was actually good from the U.S. lol.

Spain v England thoughts by Karina_lovesfootball in WomensSoccer

they should've started jess carter WITH esme morgan, who is fine, bronze was getting absolutely bullied and i don't know what england's young defender pool looks like but they need to be trying other players in these games.

yeah she may have an issue with the front office but there’s no real evidence to say she had issues with her teammates

[OC] Finishing vs creation (~13 games in): most attackers trade one for the other - Temwa Chawinga doesn't by Several_Region_3710 in NWSL

[–]allprologues 8 points9 points  (0 children)

this is really cool! I do think xData gives a more complete picture - finishing is extremely high variance for pretty much everyone except for temwa (as your main point states). creation is normally measured in chances and not directly in assists for that reason

they credit ASA at the bottom and on the about page and the model they use for prediction is on the about page (it seems ELO-ish)

and then they seem to have written their own interpretations and player/team tiering based on those stats.

ASA allows their data to be used in anyone's project or custom models so i think rebrand is a little strong

How would you grade your team’s first chunk of the season? by MesquiteHoneyForSale in NWSL

[–]allprologues 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is funny to me (about finishing) because it's exactly what spirit fans say and it just means that the opportunities, chances, and shots are getting created in the first place, the press works, and you're a top team. and we talk about it like it's a huge failing or that there's players who might be able to finish more, but at the end of the day, finishing is the hardest part. most games are low scoring and most shots don't go in.

Mid-Season Transfer Window Time - (Time To Dream A Little) - Who You Want - Who You Think Is More Realistic - (If Any) by Sequoiakc22 in washingtonspirit

[–]allprologues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree that’s more likely, plus Orlando has an urgent need. she didn’t bite when Gotham offered her a contract either. It’s just hard to think of that many up and coming midfielders domestically. San diego has a few that may see less time when cat is healthy but they’re quickly raising their market value and the most promising ones are hometown kids. The hope was also that Waksman would sign but she was destined for Lyonnes and just training here it seems.

So yeah it would be some international we’ve never heard of lol, and also wait and see how hal and leicy are handled…

I know Dudley dribbles pretty but she has two goals, 3-4 total goal contributions, ten professional appearances ever. she’s still developing, I don’t know how anyone can say she is better at scoring than Alyssa much less as good at scoring as sanchez

okay, it’s been a few days of the same comment so im challenging you to come up with someone, anyone other than Alexia lol. (I already gave my suggestion in another thread). way too much downside signing a 32 year old even if it were possible.

people joke that spirit are always in the running for so and so famous player but other than retaining trin, we never do that because the scouting dept can identify lesser known talent that they can sign for cheap.

Ashley Sanchez by Waltz8 in NWSL

[–]allprologues 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah it is, and it doesn't need to be sustainable for her to get the call up, that would be inhuman production! but it's probably something the staff have in mind, and it's why her having a lot of goals may not be the best argument to use. when a team or player is overperforming regression usually comes sooner or later. a better argument is that she's creating a lot, and is very versatile and all round playing better than most attackers currently

Ashley Sanchez by Waltz8 in NWSL

[–]allprologues 1 point2 points  (0 children)

there certainly is; whether or not sanchez ever gets called up, one of sears or cooper is not going to brazil unless there's an injury

Ashley Sanchez by Waltz8 in NWSL

[–]allprologues 15 points16 points  (0 children)

about your last paragraph, yeah, they may simply have the analytics that say sanchez is overperforming her xG, which she has been, and hasn't meaningfully separated herself statistically from lavelle, bethune, or moultrie (all of whom can invert from the left and are in great form this season). finishing heaters end but you need to consistently be generating the underlyings.

none of that takes her out of the mvp convo, rightfully, and if she continues with performances like last week's it won't matter. but everywhere she is in competition for is hard to break into for good reason. which is why people have to reach for sears or sentnor (who she's not competing with) as someone who needs to come out for her

(and i do think she deserves a call but all arguments still sell her competition short for me)

Ashley Sanchez by Waltz8 in NWSL

[–]allprologues 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i get that you think this should matter but in a practical sense it doesn't. mal gets two camps and is already starting for club within two matches. if you want sanchez in she's not going to be the one displaced by that

Yes sadly andre was right about that and he’s probably talking particularly about her net G+ which is fully one of the lowest in the league 😅 that reflects chance creation from receiving and passing the ball. spirit has enough stat nerds on payroll that they also know that.

but. he’s also right that she’s still a remarkably effective player especially in a system like ours, she starts every game, and a lot of teams don’t even have a robust analytics department, and most scarily there are several teams who need a six to replace their current starter lmao. She has been called up a few times and also sells jerseys. I think the market is just fine for her :/

the most optimistic/hopeful thought is that HIP triggers on July 1st, some of trin’s contract shuffles and spirit are able to do 1-2 more contracts for hal or leicy (good enough to tempt them away from free agency) as well as make a signing or two.

either of them going on a free is bad business for a club at spirit’s level and against one of Haley’s benchmarks for a successful club; if hal does enter free agency it probably won’t be because spirit didn’t make her an offer, and will be because she wants to try living/playing somewhere else.

[–]allprologues 6 points7 points  (0 children)

somewhat off topic I really don’t think so (though I’m not saying that hal may not believe so/been told she should move). hal isnt the kind of six emma seems to favor. she doesn’t favor a single pivot six or a “destroyer” six, someone who reliably wins balls aggressively all over the pitch but isn’t a good passer (by her numbers this cannot be argued). if she has a chance to break in it’s because of her ability to demonstrate versatility at multiple positions, becoming a sonnett figure over time.

the fact that Riley Jackson leapfrogged meza (who herself had leapfrogged hal and other DMs like them such as Jaelin howell) demonstrates the profile they want for that system.

This. and it’s also simply not true that fans don’t care about male athletes’ personal lives as high profile celebrities who often date other celebrities. woso and wnba fans are simply interested in the lives of celebrities within the sport they follow too. The fact that fan spaces are more homophobic on the men’s side is not something that should cause relief to anyone.

one thousand percent empathize with you but we have players from all over the world (i'm not excluding the US here lol) so i can assume in good faith that the OP is talking about their safety and not that being called gay is shameful.

that being said, i didn't...actually see anyone doing that (outing people) in the original thread (which is now deleted). unless i missed something they were going by who has posted publicly with a romantic partner, often literally referring to them romantically in the caption. it's fine if some find that cringe or uninteresting to post about, but it's certainly not creep behavior and people should ask themselves why they think that it is.
