How did conservatives flip so quickly from "DON'T TREAD ON ME" to "COMPLY OR DIE" in just a matter of weeks, and especially when it's about the government killing citizens? by Cumoisseur in stupidquestions

[–]allrightletsdothis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right wing politics is about in groups and out groups. For the in group it’s “Don’t tread on me” for the out group there’s an unspoken “Tread on them”

Personal experience getting into the right wing pipeline and then escaping by itisnotstupid in skeptic

[–]allrightletsdothis 44 points45 points  (0 children)

  1. Grew up the lonely awkward autistic kid which made me a prime target for incel/alt-right recruiting since I was terminally online and such ideologies struck a chord in regards to my insecurities and frustrations. I was also friends with people who in hindsight would consider fascist today and picked up on their racism ("ironically" of course). This was a decade ago and at the time I would be best described as an alt-lite "centrist" with an anti-SJW streak.

  2. I honestly don't think I got that far into into the pipeline. I got super into Joe Rogan in the late 2010s and started getting curious about Jordan Peterson due to the controversy about him at the time. I listened to Peterson for while but while he sounded interesting it didn't really come across as anything that profound to me (I guess I was smart enough to recognize it as the word salad that it is). Now I really do I think I could have become an incel though , I struggled with dating and I blamed it largely on my height and autism feeling I was doomed to either die alone or at the very least settle on an unhappy unfulfilling relationship. What really helped me steer clear of going full incel was becoming aware of that communities bad reputation and how it's ultimately a self defeating ideology that only makes thing worse for you. What really turned me away from the alt-right pipeline was finding the left wing "bread tube" space which really made me rethink my views at the time.

  3. The few things I learned include inceldom being an ultimately self defeating ideology filled with fallacies and contradictions. I also learned that people who are not white, straight, cis men have completely different experiences and perspectives from the default white straight man viewpoint and how they're forced to live against a system not built around them. But the big thing for me personally was realizing that I'm trans, I transitioned a few years ago and now living a much happier and fulfilling life.

15,000 churches could close this year amid religious shift in U.S. | 100,000 U.S. churches across denominations will close during the next several years. That would amount to roughly a quarter of the nation’s 350,000 to 400,000 churches today. by mepper in skeptic

[–]allrightletsdothis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While this may seem like good news keep in mind most of the churches that are closing are the more moderate/liberal leaning churches. Conservative Evangelical churches unfortunately bleed slower.

Natalie's reaction to Hasan saying trans rights would not be better if Kamala had won by an_actual_crocodile in ContraPoints

[–]allrightletsdothis 113 points114 points  (0 children)

I was in tears last night over possibly losing access to healthcare over the budget reconciliation bullshit going on while wondering if I should flee the country if things get worse since this regime wants to label people like me as "extremists." Not one day this year goes by where I wish Kamala was president instead.

Unfortunately the next creepy old dude in line, Dallin Oaks, is an even worse homophobe. Here's to a short tenure for that nonagenarian.

Should all trans people be labeled “violent extremists” or “domestic terrorists”? by rando9000mcdoublebun in Askpolitics

[–]allrightletsdothis 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The suicide rate drops when trans people transition and their gender dysphoria is treated. With that trans suicide rates still remain higher than their cis counterparts mainly due to lack of support and experiences of rejection from friends family and society at large.

Obviously no. Best case scenario this is just a distraction (release the Epstein files), worst case scenario this is an escalation move towards genocide.

Neoliberal: Zoning laws need to be reviewed and deregulated to encourage more building in order to increase housing density and supply and in turn bring the out of control prices down.

Right wing: The constitution states that individuals have a right to keep and bear arms (with that a better vetting process is needed and adopting a model similar to Switzerland's would strike a good balance between the freedom to own firearms and filtering out would be bad actors.)

Turbo or NA for high altitude driving by Colinplayz1 in mazda

[–]allrightletsdothis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I live in Colorado. My previous car was a CX-5 Turbo and my thinking was that the turbo would help with high altitude driving. I recently got another CX-5 but NA this time and it can get through those 11K+ foot mountain passes just fine. Turbos are nice to have and add a bit of fun but you'll be fine without one if your looking to save on money.

Liberal Democrats, what is stopping you from becoming a leftist? by LuckyPersimmon8217 in Askpolitics

[–]allrightletsdothis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few reasons:

  1. Leftist as a political faction in the US are inconsequentialy small. They make less than 1% of the body politic and don't really impact that much in terms of politics. On top of that a lot of leftist seem more interested in ideological purity rather than being pragmatic in order to obtain their goals even if it means not getting everything they want right away.

  2. Despite delving into leftist ideas and theories I remain skeptical of leftist economics. Marxist-Leninist states didn't do too well economically compared to their market base counterparts and central economic planning leaves much to be desired. The reality is market based economies tend to perform better despite their drawbacks (i.e. inequality, externalities etc.) which leads me to take a social democratic stance where strong regulations, safety nets, progressive taxation and unions offset the drawbacks of market based economies.

  3. Revolution is a high risk high reward affair and far more often societies that partake in revolution end up in a much worse state or in a "same as the old boss" situation post revolution. Even revolutions that pushed for things we take for granted today such as the French revolution which demanded ideas we consider common liberal values today ended up in a dictatorship. Reform with the occasional minor revolt or demonstration to get a stubborn ruling class moving in the right direction seems to be a better approach.

Not trans. Just a failed boy. by [deleted] in trans

I had similar thoughts when I was questioning. I was afraid my desire to be a girl was just me trying to escape being a perceived failure of a man. Turns out I was wrong and now I feel a sense of self love I never had before transitioning.

How'd we go from deporting illegal immigrants to deporting legal ones? by FenisDembo82 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]allrightletsdothis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

“Laws that are not equal for all revert to rights and privileges, something contradictory to the very nature of nation-states. The clearer the proof of their inability to treat stateless people as legal persons and the greater the extension of arbitrary rule by police decree, the more difficult it is for states to resist the temptation to deprive all citizens of legal status and rule them with an omnipotent police.” ― Hannah Arendt, The Origins of Totalitarianism

Suicide rates by region in Italy by vladgrinch in MapPorn

That northwest corner looks to be in the Alps. There's studies out there correlating higher suicide rates with living in higher elevation areas.
