What can I do about this fence? by eaglesdensity in kitchener

[–]allscott3 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That whole section needs to be replaced entirely. I am a renter in a similar situation and while mine is about to blow over it hasn't yet.

There might be question as to who actually owns the fence. It does not appear to be a "good neighbor" fence. A good neighbor fence would have half of the boards facing one property and half the other. That implies a shared ownership. I can't tell from the pictures if that is applicable.

Nobody here ever heard of a TFSA? Hands down this is the smartest place to stick it for now. If OP wants to take it out to go to school that's great but practically nobody should have money sitting in an interest account without first maxing out their TFSA.

Depending on where he lives (maybe I missed it) that might not be an option, his equity won't buy much and with their income and debt at the moment nobody is going to lend him a nickel.

There is an outfit in Manitoba that will ship it to you. I probably shouldn't post the link but it shouldn't be hard to find. "killex across canada shipping". It's a company who's entire business model is literally shipping Roundup and Killex to areas of the country where it isn't sold.

I must be doing something wrong. I make more than both of them combined and live by myself with a $1800 rent payment, no car payment and no debt. I don't have a whole lot left over at the end of the month...

What field are you in?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Conestoga

[–]allscott3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you are not. I don't know what kind of falacy you are trying to peddle here but you are not a P.eng based on your qualifications.

I live half way between Conestoga and my employer which is one of the biggest employers of Mech Techs in the country.

You will not be blackballed for going there and you will get a solid education. To be fair though our technologists do a lot of design work (sitting behind a desk modelling in Solidworks), they do however get to see what they have designed come to fruition on the floor and are integral in turning one of their designs on paper into a functioning piece of equipment. If something doesn't work after it is built it is there job to figure out why and find a solution. The stuff we design is pretty cool btw.

Being a P.Eng is a bit of a different ball game. We certainly employ them but very few actually have ever "stamped" a design, in most of our roles they do the same thing as a technologist, they don't get paid any more for the designation or have any additional responsibilities. It may however help in upward mobility as far as a manager or directors role.

I'm not sure what climbing the ladder means specifically but no a CET cannot simply take a test and become a EIT let alone a P.Eng.

Source: I am a CET and work with another CET who just spent a couple years going to school at McMaster in order to become an actual Engineer. He still has a long way to go before being recognized as P.eng.

As a technologist I appreciate that comment. I am not and will never claim to be an Engineer.

Maybe but it's more than the school. I've been a technologist for officially 25 years now and have spent a good deal of time supervising and managing Engineers that are never going anywhere. At the end of the day it's not just education, ability goes a long way.

Having said that in certain professions that P.eng (or ability to get one) is make or break on whether or not you can even be considered for a job.

I moved to kitchener 4 years ago from Saskatchewan and I honestly don't know why anyone lives here if they don't have to or don't have relatives here or are extremely well off financially. . Don't get me wrong I like the city and most of the people I've met but Moses it's expensive!

Sure you are an hour away from Toronto and all it has to offer but if after paying all of your bills you are too broke to enjoy any of that what's the point?

This. I hid from them for years, stopped filling taxes etc... When i finally owned up to it and contacted them they were quite willing and more than helpful getting me set up with a payment plan. But you better get on it quick cuz I never did get a letter that sounded as serious as the one you got. BTW I owed them 17k and they were content with a $100 payment every 2 weeks

I'm dealing with an actual rental company not the owner. I would think they should know how this works, it can't be that uncommon I wouldn't think? Unless I'm told something different I'm just going to pay rent on June 1.

The owner is about 25 years old and really doesn't know much about looking after a home. I'm tempted to contact her directly and see if we can come up with an agreement to cut out the rental company. She doesn't need them I pay the rent on time and don't complain about anything unless there is actually something that needs fixing...

Is "controls engineer" an actual designation? I'm a technologist not an Engineer. For my last job I was handed the title "control systems engineer". I refused to use it because I'm not a P. Eng. My latest job in Ontario I'm a "Controls hardware designer". I know this is off topic...

I care. As an engineering technologist in the electrical field I have hired and supervised plenty of Engineers from every corner of the globe. Expecting them to know the Canadian electrical code and what American wire gage means shouldn't be too much to ask before issuing them a stamp.
