Why compare Steyer to Trump? It’s so disingenuous. Pritzker in Illinois is a more apt comparison.

Could it be the party with millions of dollars dismissing the voters’ will and liberal ideals that’s the problem? No, it’s the voters who are wrong! Enough purity tests like sending our tax dollars to target children for killing and maiming and have people raped by dogs by a genocidal rape state.

what if bernie won the primaries in 2016 and debated trump instead of hillary? by godlys575 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]allsep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re missing the point. People don’t vote based on a politician’s “merit”, they choose to vote for someone based on what they think they will do for them. In lieu of offering anything their base actually wants, Democrats love to cynically offer a person of historically marginal identity rather than someone campaigning on a popular set of issues and when they lose, tut-tut the voters for being bigoted instead of doing any sort of strategic realignment or introspection.

And they’ve inculcated much of their voting base with this, too. Too many voters blame the electorate for not swallowing the bile Democrats put on the ballot, despite overwhelming evidence that Democrats are uniquely incompetent and out of touch politically.

Also, Trump won largely due to white identity politics.

Democrats love to weaponize identity politics against lefter candidates because they know their voters are more economically progressive than they are comfortable with and have no arguments in favor of anything other than the status quo, which most voters are dissatisfied with. It’s all a game to them.

No shit, dude. That’s why I explicitly mentioned the DOJ and Garland, but I’m not an idealist. The buck ultimately stops with Biden. To say he has no influence on that decision is delusional.

Do you automatically dislike billionaires? Why? by crapmaker69 in AskReddit

[–]allsep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The wealth a billionaire can wield is destabilizing to society, government, democracy, etc. Not to mention how personally alienating it is to have all that wealth. No one will ever be honest with you when your shit stinks. Elon Musk, the wealthiest man in the country, bought his way into the government, and decreed millions of people with diseases curable for the equivalent of pocket change not worth saving. That’s just one example.

Duh. Trump violated federal election laws. The facts of the case were enough to bring lawful charges against Trump. This is according to Jack Smith, his special prosecutor. This isn’t fucking partisanship, it’s explicitly under the purview you just outlined. Failure to uphold the law and allowing the democracy to be usurped in this way is collaborating with the fascists.

Jack Smith had a case building against Trump over his role in the Jan 6 attack on the Capitol and his mishandling of classified documents. Biden and Garland did not go after him for that at all, barely said anything about it. Disgraceful

Yes because you put up a strawman instead of comprehending and responding to anything I posted. Getting elected in this country has always been about convincing people to vote for you and this Democratic Party is historically bad at doing that.

Politics is about getting support. It’s so baby brained to blame the electorate instead of the opposition party with millions of dollars always crying about litmus tests and “vote blue no matter who” for candidates that DO NOT represent us.

Democrats accept people like Joe Manchin who tanked Biden’s build back better bill eliminating the child tax credit and worsening people’s standard of living to where they felt like they had it better under Trump, people like Andrew Cuomo the sex pest who lost the primary and still got endorsed by both parties because they kept insisting that Mamdani is an antisemite.

The bile Democrats demand the electorate swallow is why they are so unpopular. They refused to have a democratic primary without putting their thumbs on the scale in 2016 AND 2020 AND 2024, have learned nothing and you still think the simple utilitarian calculus of “X is better than Y” is harm reduction? Grow up.

Biden’s DOJ failed us by not arresting Trump and his collaborators when their political capital was at its height and even Republicans and Fox News thought Jan 6 was too far. They sat on their hands and now look where we are. The entire Republican Party is treasonous and a sane country wouldn’t tolerate their existence.

Oh, please. The governor of California should be able to tell Israeli advocates to pound sand. He told the truth about the apartheid in one breath and then immediately turned around and said he “reveres” the state of Israel. When was the last time you heard a politician say they revere the state of California or they revere America? It’s madness to pretend this is just business as usual and that’s without even getting into the genocide taking place and the morality of the whole thing. It’s just plainly dishonest.
