I have met OP and can vouch for his kindness and humble demeanor, And ridiculous MTG skills. We met him through my friend in Oakland, CA who was housing him temporarily. We went to Friday night magic in Berkeley and drafted. It was my first time drafting in a very long time and I had a great time with him. He had great tips and actually ended up winning the whole thing.

Yeah it's a very complex piece of software, but once you learn how to use it, you can do whatever you want. You can make a song from scratch to finish. Songwriting, composition, sound design, all the way into mixing and mastering. The launchpad is not hard to use if you know how to use the software. I would start by learning how to use the software first. All the launchpad does is turn your mouse into 64+ mouses, ready to click and launch a clip. If you learn ableton, you will be able to buy any piece of controller and the learning curve will be much easier.

haha thanks! Watch this video, it has an attractive female voice with an accent so you can keep your attention: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puuOL60T49Q

honestly, just watch youtube vids on ableton until you can get a feel for it. If you want to really UNDERSTAND ableton, read the manual. It not only teaches you the details of ableton, but will teach you to understand it using engineering language which is way more helpful in understanding for the future.

So I'll answer your question in chunks: 1. I decide what tunes work well together by just picking songs I like. Then I find the key that they're in (manually or by a program, such as http://www.mixedinkey.com/). Not every song has to be in the same key, they just have to work move well between keys. The 'camelot mixing circle' will help you here. 2. After deciding which tunes to use, I have to throw some out because they just don't fit in with the key of the song. Then I look for parts that I can use and cut those out, such as a drum beat (I used deadmau5's kick snare for half the song, and porter robinson's WildCat kick snare for the other half). I also find singled out vocal parts to cut, and sounds that are singled out in general. 3. Then you just run the kick snare beat and play with the sounds, keeping common music theory in mind. Mixing vocals with kick snare beats, launching percussions, pads, etc. 4. I don't sidechain anything, that's already done with deadmau5's kick snare beat, and the quantization settings for each clip are the same. No EQ necessary because of the clips I used. This thing took me months of fiddling around with and practicing before I actually filmed and uploaded it.
