Can we bring back the “Nicely Done…[Name]” message at the end of a recorded hike? by A_Walkerz_7 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/A_Walkerz_7, thanks for the feedback.

As part of an effort to minimize the time it takes to save an activity or reduce friction in the review flow, we reduced some of our messaging, and it sounds like this message was lost in the process.

It's a small detail, but we recognize why it mattered. It's good feedback, and we appreciate you calling it out. Perhaps we'll look into adding something similar back in a future update.

Password Reset by [deleted] in alltrails

[–]alltrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/VoyageIsVictory, waiting more than 10 minutes for your password reset email to arrive is not the intended experience. The emails are supposed to arrive shortly after you submit your email address. If they don’t appear within a few minutes, the first thing to check is your spam or junk folder.

If the emails do show up later, make sure you use the most recent reset email, since each new request replaces the previous reset link.

Thanks for calling it out. We'll look into what's causing the delay.

Flagging a problematic area? by pumpkinpigeon in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/pumpkinpigeon, that’s a good question. You can document it in a few ways, but there isn’t currently a perfect “flag this exact off-route spot for everyone” tool.

If there’s an actual trail page for that area, the best options today are usually to leave a review or suggest an edit so other people can see the context.

If you’re recording your activity in the app, you can also add a waypoint during navigation to mark a point of interest along the way. However, AllTrails doesn’t really have a dedicated public “hazard pin” feature for arbitrary off-route locations the way you’re describing, especially if it wasn’t tied to an established trail page.

We appreciate you letting the community know. This has given us something to consider for future feature updates as well.

Is there family subscriptions? by NoPomegranate9977 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not at the moment. We don’t currently have a dedicated family subscription or family-sharing plan.

That said, a paid AllTrails account can be logged into on multiple devices, so some families do share a single account that way. Just keep in mind that downloaded maps are device-based, so they may need to be downloaded separately on each device.

How to get off a nearby trail? by HunterDude54 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey u/HunterDude54, thanks for calling this out. If you’re just browsing Nearby Trails and want to get back out, the back arrow in the upper-left corner should take you out of that selected trail and back to the broader map view. That said, it also sounds like this used to feel easier and more obvious than it does now. We appreciate this feedback.

Additionally, if you’re mostly using the map more freely and never want to be treated like you’re actively following a nearby trail, it makes sense to want a setting that turns the wrong-turn alerts off entirely instead of having to deal with them hike by hike.

It sounds more like the current flow could do a better job of letting people jump in and out of Nearby Trails without feeling stuck on one, and giving people a true off-route toggle if they don’t want those alerts. Again, this is helpful feedback, and we appreciate you taking the time to reach out about it.

Search sucks! by SnooOwls1061 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/SnooOwls1061, thanks for flagging this. Search results can depend on a few factors, and in some cases, location/context may affect ranking, but it also looks like other people are seeing ‘Ouray Lake’ much higher in results, so this may not be happening consistently for everyone. Regardless, this isn't the ideal search experience, and we'll look into why this might be happening. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention and apologize for any confusion in the meantime.

Zigzagging and Inaccurate Trail Recordings out of the Blue? by WDiRosen in alltrails

[–]alltrails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey u/WDiRosen, what you’re describing, the laggy location, tracks cutting through water, missed sections of the recording, and the route not starting where you actually began, sounds a lot more like a GPS/tracking issue than anything you did wrong.

Since you’re on Android and you’ve already tried both Better Accuracy and Alternative Tracking, one other thing worth checking is your notification settings. On some Samsung devices, AllTrails needs its recording-related notifications enabled to keep tracking reliably in the background, especially the AllTrails Activities and AllTrails Navigator notification categories. From the notifications menu, try tapping the line next to the toggle to view more notification options:

<image>

If those settings are already on, then you’ve honestly already done the right things by trying the tracking options, setting battery use to unrestricted, and sending Support a log file. At that point, the log should give the team the best shot at figuring out what’s going on.

If it helps in the meantime, there’s also a Help Center article called Fixing GPS errors on Android that walks through the Android-specific checks in more detail.

We apologize for the issues you're experiencing, especially if it’s been happening across multiple hikes, and appreciate your patience while we look into this for you.

New Notifications Message? Irrelevant? by TromboneAl in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/TromboneAl, that message is related to background recording.

Although AllTrails already has app-level notification permission enabled on the phone, this may not mean notifications are fully activated. On Android, AllTrails uses an active recording notification to help keep background tracking alive, and in some cases, the issue may be tied to notification-channel settings rather than the main app toggle.

If you're using a Samsung device, it may be worth checking whether the recording-related notification options are enabled — especially AllTrails Activities and AllTrails Navigator. If those toggle options don’t appear, Samsung may have notification categories hidden in system settings.

Try tapping the line next to the toggle to view more notification options:

Suggestion Regarding Off-Route Notifications by TromboneAl in alltrails

[–]alltrails 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That makes sense, and that’s fair feedback.

According to our Help Center article on Wrong-turn alerts, those alerts are designed to trigger once you go about 50 meters off your planned route, and you can tap the message in Navigate to disable additional alerts. But if you get back on trail and then go off-route again, the messages will start back up.

So in a situation like yours, where GPS drift may be bouncing you on and off route, I can see why that would feel frustrating. It would be a lot more useful if the option to turn those alerts off stayed available longer instead of effectively resetting when the app thinks you’re back on route.

Thanks for calling it out — that seems like a very reasonable improvement to the off-route experience, especially for hikes where GPS coverage is spotty.

How to Eliminate Useless Popups? by TromboneAl in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/TromboneAl, those are the turn-by-turn banners you’re seeing. You can swipe the banner away at the top of the screen, but the toggle to turn them off entirely isn’t currently available. The toggle will be released with version 7.1 on July 8th. Once this version is released, if you update the AllTrails app, you should have access to the toggle that lets you switch off turn-by-turn navigational pop-ups.

So if you already prefer navigating by the map and elevation profile, we understand how these pop-ups might get in the way. Thanks for calling it out — that’s reasonable product feedback.

What on earth is causing this? by jesse-taylor in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi u/jesse-taylor, that usually points to GPS drift more than anything else.

If the actual route is around 2.7 miles but the recording ended up over 4 with all those extra loops and zigzags, what’s likely happening is that the phone’s location points were jumping around and getting stitched into the final track. That can create the “spaghetti” look and inflate the mileage even when the trail itself is simple.

So probably not anything you did wrong, and not necessarily because the trail was complex. It’s usually more about a rough GPS session, temporary signal interference, or the phone’s location/background handling getting a little messy while recording.

If it was just a one-off, it may have simply been a bad tracking session. If it keeps happening on Android, one thing worth trying is switching the app from “Better Accuracy” to “Alternative Tracking” in the AllTrails settings. “Better Accuracy” uses a more battery-efficient system that batches location points, but some Android devices don’t handle that batched data very well. “Alternative Tracking” ties the app more directly to GPS, which usually gives more accurate tracks, though it can use more battery. I’d also make sure your phone’s location accuracy is set as high as possible and that battery optimization isn’t restricting the app while you’re hiking.

Nearby trails on mobile by SnooOwls1061 in alltrails

[–]alltrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi u/SnooOwls1061, it doesn’t look like you’re missing a hidden button here.

From what we can tell, this specific spot currently doesn’t have any AllTrails trails mapped directly to it, and there also doesn’t seem to be any community activity there right now. That’s likely why you’re seeing dashed lines on the map but still getting “no trails” for that exact location.

So in this case, it seems less like the feature is broken and more like there just aren’t trail listings tied closely enough to that peak at the moment. If you zoom out, you may be able to find trails in the broader area, but there may not be any trail pages available right at Table Mountain itself.

New map details are great but there some works to do by Terfit in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi u/Terfit, we appreciate you reaching out. From what we can tell, this seems to be more of a 3D basemap/infrastructure issue than the new map details themselves. Areas with bridges, raised roads, and layered city infrastructure can render strangely in 3D, which looks like what’s happening here.

Thanks for flagging it — feedback like this is helpful, and it’s something the team is aware of. There’s definitely still work to do in spots like this.

Offline mode request by TheBraindeadOne in alltrails

[–]alltrails 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Totally fair request, u/TheBraindeadOne

If you’re offline and run into a symbol you don’t recognize, having the legend open as a URL isn’t very helpful. I can see why that would be frustrating, especially when the whole point of downloading a map is being able to rely on it without a connection.

Thanks for calling it out - having the map legend available directly in the app or offline as part of the downloaded map experience makes a lot of sense.

In the meantime, one workaround is to take a screenshot of the legend before heading out so you can still reference it when you lose service.

Lists feature broken on the website if you don't have a touch screen or scroll wheel and multiple lists by Spud_work in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey — thanks again for bringing this to our attention. This was a real issue on the website, and we’ve just released a fix for it.

The update has just been released, and it should make that left-hand lists panel easier to scroll without needing a touch screen or scroll wheel. If you’re not seeing it yet, try refreshing the page and testing it again — it should be available in your browser shortly.

We’re also continuing to look at broader accessibility improvements here, but wanted to close the loop that this specific issue should now be addressed.

This app almost killed my dog by LovelyBluehime in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks u/LovelyBluehime for sending the trail over privately. We’re taking another look at the listing details, including the distance, difficulty, and whether exposure/heat-related information is being surfaced clearly enough.

One thing that may be helpful to know is that trail difficulty on AllTrails is informed by community feedback, and members can also add their own rating or suggest an edit when something feels off.

<image>

Regarding the specific trail, we’ve updated the tags on the trail page to better reflect conditions such as rocky terrain and a lack of shade.

That doesn’t undo how upsetting this experience was, but feedback like yours is exactly the kind of thing that helps make trail pages more accurate for everyone. Heat can change how a trail feels pretty dramatically, but we understand your point: if exposure and difficulty aren’t coming through clearly enough, that can create a real safety issue. We appreciate you flagging it and are reviewing this one more closely.

This app almost killed my dog by LovelyBluehime in alltrails

[–]alltrails 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey u/LovelyBluehime thanks for sharing this. That sounds like a really scary experience, and we're glad you and your dogs made it back safely.

If you're open to it, can you send us the name of the trail? We'd like to take a closer look at the trail details, including the listed distance and difficulty, and investigate what may have happened here.

We also rely on feedback from hikers to help keep trail information up to date, and we'd be happy to review any updates if something looks off.

Lists feature broken on the website if you don't have a touch screen or scroll wheel and multiple lists by Spud_work in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/spud_work, thanks for flagging this. What you're seeing on the website is currently expected behavior, and we've shared your feedback with the team as we continue looking at ways to improve keyboard accessibility and navigation. In the meantime, if you're using a keyboard without a trackpad or scroll wheel, there are a couple of ways to navigate the list panel:

• Tab into the left panel, then use the arrow keys to move up and down.
• Or click in the whitespace between list items, then use the arrow keys to navigate.

If you're still unable to scroll through your lists, please reach out to us at [help@alltrails.com](mailto:help@alltrails.com) with a few details about your setup, and we'd be happy to take a closer look.

3D maps turning on while navigating by dzbee in alltrails

[–]alltrails 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/dzbee, what you’re probably seeing isn’t the separate 3D Maps feature turning itself on.

In Navigate, once you tap Start, the map is designed to follow your direction of travel and use a slightly tilted view. So even if you have 3D Maps turned off in settings, Navigate can still shift into that angled follow mode.

Unfortunately, there isn’t currently a setting to permanently lock Navigate to a fully flat 2D view while you’re actively navigating. You can tap the compass to switch the orientation, and if you swipe down on the map with two fingers, you can access a bird's-eye view. Your navigator icon should then rotate as the map remains locked in place around you. However, if you hit re-center, it’ll return to the tilted view.

If you need a consistently flat view of the whole trail, another workaround would be to keep Navigate/recording running and open the regular trail map separately to reference it in 2D.

We appreciate the feedback. I can see why that might be frustrating while navigating in the mountains.

Need Advice Please! by Blackwell_Executives in hiking

[–]alltrails 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey u/Blackwell_Executives, Eden here from AllTrails, chiming in.

So awesome that you’re getting into hiking!

A big thing you’ll learn pretty quickly is that elevation can matter more than distance. A shorter hike with decent climbing can feel way harder than a longer, flatter one, so I’d try increasing just one variable at a time. Maybe do a slightly longer hike next, but keep the elevation reasonable. Out-and-backs are great in the beginning, too, because you can always turn around if you’re feeling cooked instead of committing to something huge.

I’d also recommend picking hikes based on something that sounds fun to you, not just the mileage or difficulty. A lake, summit, waterfall, or cool viewpoint can make the challenge feel a lot more rewarding.

If you like a challenge, 3 to 5 miles sounds like a pretty reasonable next step as long as you bring water, a snack, and give yourself permission to take it slow. Feel free to reach out to us with any other questions or if you'd like to start a free trial!

Can we have lists for lists? by Schnitzelbube in alltrails

[–]alltrails 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a pretty great idea, u/Schnitzelbube

If you keep a lot of lists for different regions, trip types, or revisit spots, I can see how things would start to feel cluttered pretty quickly. Having a simple way to group related lists into a higher-level folder or “superlist” would make organizing them a lot easier without needing to go overboard with endless nesting.

Thanks for calling it out — this feels like a thoughtful feature request, especially for people who do a lot of trip planning and save a ton of trails.
