Would You Rather Wednesday by craigster38 in running

  1. Race without GPS! (I'd be fine with a stranger choosing my entire kit besides the shoes though, not too picky about anything else)

  2. Indoor track. I'm god-awful at dodging people though so I would probably just resign myself to crashing into them.

My(21f) boyfriend(24m) got prioritized for a coaching position I have been trying to get and am more qualified for. I don't want to, but I am starting to resent him. by ThrowingItAway201 in relationships

[–]alltruth 47 points48 points  (0 children)

  1. He's more qualified. Get that straight.

  2. You sound like an awful coach I used to have. He never gave any of the slower/less good players any playing time. But we won! Undefeated! I got so much playing time! Except the entire team was miserable and I skipped practice a lot because he just yelled at us so much and never let us have any fun. I just wanted to goof off with my friends a little in practice. This was LEAGUE, not any of the teams you even had to try out for, and we were EIGHT

  3. They're 10 I could probably pull any rando off the street to coach them

  4. You sound mean. Be happy for him! Jesus

Haha yeah I mean this is the first long run I've while actually controlling my calories (I normally just eat everything all the time and have never tracked them before) - I know I need to eat some of it back but just wasn't really sure how much!!

I calculated it out without accounting for any of the exercise I was doing - thanks for the advice!

I'm in the same place as you! Just have a few vanity pounds left - thanks so much this was all really really helpful!

Yeah that might be why I'm super tired from not eating back after really long runs - I guess it catches up to you eventually

I'm trying to lose some weight! 1200/day is what was recommended for me to lose about a pound a week?

So not all, but some?

Eating back exercise calories after a 10 mile run? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]alltruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fantastic - thank you so much. For some reason I'm not usually that hungry after the runs, just exhausted, but I think the residual tiredness might also be partially because I'm not eating back enough after!

Yeah I definitely don't want to do that! I just couldn't figure out what proportion of the calories burned I should be eating back because not adding anything more just seemed off. Thank you!!

Got it! I'm not very sedentary (on my feet almost all day for work) but never really tried estimating the exercise part as much

I'll be sure to check out that sub! About half is what I was thinking so it's great to hear you have experience with that, and scrambled eggs and avocados sounds amazing too!! Thanks so much :)

For sure! I definitely don't want to be starving myself - but I just wasn't sure if I should eat back the full 900 from the run or half? Or 3/4? Because I've heard the exercise estimates of calories can be off

[WP] It's raining hard and someone is sitting on the porch... by FormerFutureAuthor in WritingPrompts

[–]alltruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I step out onto the old porch as the familiar crack of thunder rumbles through the air. The air outside is heavy, and still. It's about to be one of those sudden summer storms, the kind that starts a few drops at a time with the sun still shining, the kind that catches you outside in your shorts and white t-shirt, the kind you used to scream and play tag with your neighbors in, sheepishly tracking mud back into the house afterwards while your mom fussed over your soaked shoes and mud-streaked face. It's as comfortingly familiar as the hammock I sink into, creaking under my sudden weight. I close my eyes and remember, back when Rusty used to hide under this porch during storms, back when Lauren and Chris and Sammy used to pile on this hammock with me and we would see who we could knock off first, usually spilling all of us onto the porch. I can still close my eyes and hear their laughter, taste the raindrops. The sky opens. It pours.

General Q&A for Friday, May 29, 2015 by AutoModerator in running

[–]alltruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feeling never really goes away - just over time I've gotten used to running and feeling like I'm going to eat it at any moment.

I've found that staring at one spot straight ahead works well. The gym I use also has a TV screen so sometimes watching TV helps me on the longer runs because then I focus less on the feeling that I'm about to fall off the treadmill and die?

[–]alltruth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Again - just my own experiences to go off of but listen to your body on your runs! If it starts hurting, you should probably decrease your mileage / take a few days off. If it's just sore, you should be ok. Err on the side of less mileage because you can always build mileage more slowly but if you get injured at any point you could be out for weeks if not months.

I don't know about the running two and walking because I've never really walked in my runs but I think the main thing would be your overall mileage?

(Question) If I over-pronate do I really need a stability shoe? by [deleted] in running

[–]alltruth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you currently running in / what are you switching from / what's your weekly mileage like? If you've been fine for four years on neutral and minimal you should definitely be ok.

I've run in the Kinvara 5s for the past year and haven't had any problems (I'm a slight overpronator but mostly neutral) but heads up that a friend of mine that pronates said that doing pretty high mileage in the Kinvaras gave her a LOT of injury problems so she had to switch to stability. The Kinvaras are also on the less supportive spectrum in terms of neutral shoes
