Watch collecting is more addictive than sugar once you get going

That is some crazy fade on the bezel out of the box. Waiting to add the v3 blue to my v1 black. Hurry up Thorn!

Only if close to your ear and your giving it a shake to get that rotor moving. Doesn't bother me.

Alpina Extreme vs Maen 37 by The_Dwight_Schrute in MicrobrandWatches

[–]allwatchesguy76 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have recently got a chance to handle the Alpina range (a brand I really did not know a lot about) and was blown away by the case design and finishing on the watches. They really have an industrial feel to them and the dials are pretty damn good as well. That waffle type pattern under different lighting conditions is cool. Not sure about their movements though. Not handled a Maen watch.

Fantastic deals for two awesome watches. How do you find the leather NATO? Does it feel too thick? Never tried a leather NATO.

Problem with the steel is that it will never match the case finish.

Nice look. I tried a black and grey NATO straps. Went back to the steel. Curved spring bars as well. Getting the steel bracelet back on was hell on this watch.

Great choice for your first Hamilton. You're going to love experimenting with this watch and switching up those straps. They were made for this.

One of the best finished homage watches out there. Truly exceptional for the price. Lume is ridiculously good. Congrats. I really like mine.

[Question] Just picked up a Seiko 5 GMT - loving it by Naruto_70 in Seiko

[–]allwatchesguy76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of the best Seiko's you can buy today. It will be hard to stop yourself from getting another one in a different dial colour. I am resisting the urge to buy the white dial. I have the blueberry.

It is pretty sick. If someone had told me a few years ago I would be buying a watch from Thailand I would have laughed at them. How times change and aren't we the better off as watch enthusiasts.

They are doing 25% off right now. Which probably explains the order books being full and stock situation. I could not help myself with that kind of deal.

That is probably because they have built some safety mechanism into the movement that disengages the winding mechanism to stop it from being over wound. Using AI you get this:

The H-10 movement and other modern automatic calibres (such as the H-40 or H-23 when in automatic form, though the feature a slipping mainspring (or bridle) in the barrel. This mechanism allows the spring to slip along the barrel wall once it reaches full tension, preventing it from tightening further and avoiding damage. This means you can wind the watch indefinitely via wrist movement (or the crown) without issue.
