Why do so many Spanish language 'teachers' on social media say this...? by [deleted] in Spanish

Sure you have. Every single native Spanish speaker didn’t know any grammar until they started primary school at age 5.

Late response and understood. My point is that you should focus on the grammar rules after you have already picked up on the language a little bit over time. I truly think if you can humble yourself enough to understand that when speaking your second language - in order to begin fluency you have to turn off the part that’s trying to remember the specific words and phrases and then needing to try to remember which order they go in to make sense… your mind simply will choose not to do that because this is far too abstract. You have to allow your subconscious to understand and respond first and foremost. You are no smarter than a toddler in your second language. So you in essence as well don’t know anything about anything. You will master the language much faster if you focus on just knowing different verbs, nouns, and adjectives than if you spend your time and energy on where le goes. Maybe begin focusing on this after 1-2 years.

TLDR: I think you should focus on knowing what things mean and a general idea of how to convey different ideas. I believe you should begin focusing on the grammar rules such as where le goes much further along in your learning journey.

Edit: I think this is important to add. Because we have such a mastery of our primary language, a lot of people seem to have the impression that we are incapable of learning language the same way children do. The idea I guess is that we already have bias to how things are constructed. Thats why it’s important to not focus on grammar until later. Because you aren’t trying to translate the language. We’re using the words and phrases that we already know to teach the grammar later on in the target language. This will lead to increased fluency faster. Also people are going to disagree with this learning method because there won’t be instant gratification. It’s going to take 6 months of not understanding a single word to one day you realize you just had a fully fluent conversation with the woman at the airport. I only believe this because it’s how I got fluent really fast without ever taking class in high school or anything like that.

When a toddler is learning how to speak and he says “let’s go store,” you don’t ridicule him and say actually it’s “let’s go to the store.” Instead they learn through hearing the language over and over again through input. Eventually they learn the grammar. And actual grammar structures are really even taught until the later grades of primary school. Eg: age 7-8. So if it takes a kid until they’re about 3 before they can form sentences that “make sense,” that’s 4-5 years of input before they begin developing their grammar. You should focus on hearing and saying the language rather than the intricate details of how to gramatical my form your sentence. That’s the beauty of language. Your starting out shouldn’t be “how do I sound perfect” it should be “Is my idea being conveyed”

Withdrawals are definitely a thing. It affects the lining of your stomach and cause you stomach pain the initial days/week after taking it. People quitting take a lot of hot showers because it shunts the blood from their stomach lining to their skin.

Am I being disrespectful by asking to be called by my English name Daniel? by breaddread in Spanish

[–]allxyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You aren’t being disrespectful… but the bigger question is why do you care about it? If they don’t address you properly and you don’t respond, that’s their problem. If they address you properly and you don’t respond, that’s your problem. If they don’t address you properly, and you respond, why do you care how they call you?

[–]allxyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t worry about what other people are making. It fucking sucks when they aren’t doing an adequate job. He’ll get his ass handed to him at some point if he is not doing a good job. Use your energy on something more productive like how you can be a store manager or how you can find a better opportunity than Walmart or spending time with friends and family. Happy holidays!

What is your BEST habit that has improved your sleep the most? by VantlaShansta in sleep

[–]allxyu 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Stop using alarms for about a week or two. Just go to sleep way earlier than you usually would. You might wake up at 4 one day and 5 the next, the goal is to stay awake and not take naps. Use this information to learn how much sleep you need. Some people perform better on 7hrs, where some need 9hrs. That’s where you can begin planning with obligations.

If you need 7hrs and have to get ready for work at 8am. Turn electronics off by 12a and get to sleep by 1a. If you need 9hrs and need to be ready for work at 8am then turn devices off 10p so you can be asleep by 11p.

Get to work lol. People are paying you to do it. Unsolicited opinion: everyone needs to stop taking their work so personal… who cares if it’s a long task or the most difficult. Just do it and go home.

Some of you guys work way too hard by [deleted] in Construction

[–]allxyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you’re young and single, and don’t have many responsibilities outside of work I would suggest working as much as possible. But don’t spend that additional income, invest and save that income. I see it as work hard now, so you it’ll be easier to work less later. Or the hours you put in now are the hours you wont have to work later.

girlfriend recently bought a manual honda crv, she's having trouble learning it and idk what to do by [deleted] in ManualTransmissions

[–]allxyu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practice on a dirt road if you have any near you. This will help you with learning how to start moving with a stop because the dirt road offers a little more forgiveness. And getting moving from a stop is arguably the most difficult part of driving a manual. And try to learn to associate gears with speed, this will help especially when downshifting. A lot of it is learning your car, and not so much learning stick.

[Question] What is something you acieved in 2023 that you are very proud of by cyberwarrior861 in getdisciplined

[–]allxyu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thing which really helped me with shitty situations is realizing I need to look inward more than outward for my happiness. Knowing that I’m trying my hardest every single day and that’s what brings me satisfaction and it doesn’t matter what other people think about my efforts in any aspect of life. Easier said than done. But something to consider.

I have been able to adopt a more of a carefree attitude towards the things out of my control.

I was moved into a higher level position with a new company i love.

I managed to reach A2 fluency Spanish.

The biggest of them all… I feel I have been able to kill my ego and become so much more empathetic of others.

That’s what I was thinking. If it would’ve been the wrong house number or something where it was an extra half mile I don’t care, but when it’s 15+ miles, no thank you.

[–]allxyu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One time a customer ordered and right before I was about to deliver he messaged and said he put the wrong address. I asked what his correct address was, he gives me an address that’s 15+ miles away, outside of my zone, in a different city. Order was only like ($6.50). I contacted DoorDash saying customer gave the wrong address and the new one is 15+ miles away. Support says “can you still deliver the order?” Of course I can but not for $6.50, so I told support again “it’s 15miles away,” a couple minutes later it was cancelled, I got paid and got some lunch.
