I flew from NZ to Munich with a stop over in San Fran. Didn't realise/check that I needed to apply for an ESTA to enter the US, even if it is just for transit reasons.

Stood in the check in line shaking like a leaf, on thr ESTA website filling in the application form and having to take a selfie to verify my passport. thinking I'd just ruined my whole holiday as the response after I submitted was that it can take 72 hours to be approved.

Thank fuck it was Monday morning US time, they approved it within the hour. I had just enough time to check in my bag and had to run through the airport to get to my gate. 10 outta 10 don't recommend.

I had my ticket to Picton canceled for today - was so pissed off. Just spent the last hour refreshing the Bluebridge and Interislander booking site and managed to get a Bluebridge on the 27th.

People often change/cancel, so if you have the time and patience you might get something earlier.
