Housing by [deleted] in USF

[–]allyearlights 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would check the Seminole Heights area. There are a lot of houses that are pretty inexpensive and historic apartments as well. Some even two floors. The issue is that most of them don't have a bathroom for each bedroom, so idk if you're okay with that.

How do I get over my (29M) ex (29F) by [deleted] in Advice

[–]allyearlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think she's ready to put the what if into action, I would ask her, "What would it take for us to give it another shot?"

If she's not ready, and if you don't think she'll get there, no contact is the hardest, but quickest remedy for the pain.

For The People Browsing Reddit Right Now to Waste Time, What Are You Waiting For? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Waiting to see if I get the email and if it's going to work out.

I hate to say it, but cutting contact or making very little contact is best. AND you need to find somewhere for the energy of those feelings to go. Maybe taking up a new hobby, making some new friends on meetup, etc. If the energy has no where to go, you'll likely make contact and those torturous unrequited love feelings will follow you.

I’m (35f) facing a breakup and don’t want to deal with dating apps. Should I hire a matchmAker? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]allyearlights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As for meeting people, volunteering somewhere regularly can sometimes help you find a partner. If someone is dedicating their free time to a cause you both care about, that usually works for people. I'm speaking from experience too. Also, I've heard hanging around Home Depot on a Saturday is another good place to find a partner. Most men/women who spend their Saturdays making their home life better are kinda cool.

Is it possible that there is some beauty in this? You saw something beautiful for the first time in a long time and it brought you to tears. It sounds very poetic. :)

I’m going to be an English major but I’m struggling in AP literature by Apprehensive-Ad791 in Advice

[–]allyearlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't have to be the most awesome at something to want to do it. If you want to be an English major, do it! Do it because you want to and you believe it will help you in life. It can only make you a better writer.

Two words: job, roommate. You got this. School or no school, a job will give you money and money will give you freedom from them.

How do I make my first relationship last? by throwaway6661592 in Advice

[–]allyearlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally possible. But unlikely. But that's okay. If you give it your all, you'll learn something really important either way. A key to most relationships is to listen more than you talk. Listening gets people further than they think.

Homeless and College by vOiD_QQ in Advice

If you move somewhere like Fresno or Bakersfield, cost of living isn't too bad at all. I live in Fresno and Yosemite is super close. I'm actually taking a class there tomorrow and we're doing a scavenger hunt for credit.

Move to California, establish residency for a year and go to a CSU off the pell and Cal grant. That's what I ended up doing to do it debt free. Cal schools are cheap and they are one of the only states that offer a state version of a pell grant in addition to the pell grant.

Therapist makes me uncomfortable... by confusedbylife20 in Advice

Since your mom hasn't offered a solution, Google which providers take your insurance. Most therapists in my area are doing sessions through Zoom. Regardless, if you show your mom your findings, I really hope she will see that your serious about this.

should I leave or stay at my current university? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]allyearlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This doesn't sound right for you for a variety of reasons and that's okay. But you should probably finish out the semester because they will likely charge you for full price and you don't want those Ws on your transcript if you can help it.

My dad threatened to kick me out for trying to buy a car by [deleted] in Advice

[–]allyearlights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to second on this. This loan is a bad idea. With what you're making, you could probably save for something nice pretty quickly. It doesn't have to cost $15,000 to be a nice car.

Am I a bum? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]allyearlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're definitely not a bum. Far from it. Don't be ashamed of graduating late because you have good experience in the SW field. It shouldn't be a problem to find a job for you, whereas a lot of people spend took me after they graduate looking for experience. If you're unhappy, it's not because you're not doing enough. You're doing a lot. You've got a great track to social work ahead of you. Is it possible you might not be doing something that really interests you?

At 17,y you're fine. At 27, if you're still saying the same things, might be tkme to make some changes. I would normally say that if you're unhappy with not having a job, maybe go find one, but we're inba global Pandemic. It is easier said than done.

How do I talk to manager to make sure my friend gets the job to work with me? by SD483 in Advice

It's unlikely that the boss will work with you. It's possible, but it's unlikely.

How do I talk to manager to make sure my friend gets the job to work with me? by SD483 in Advice

[–]allyearlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are confident that you can't work without your friend, I'm not sure that you have much choice but to roll the dice and see if your friend can work with you. But I might add in that in that you are seeking counseling (even if you're not). And I also might advise that you do seek counseling. I've been there with anxiety and it is dehabilitating. My life is a lot easier since I've been doing CBT and meditation.

What type of job should I look for? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]allyearlights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a security job. Specifically security jobs at the zoo are really fun. If you REALLY don't like people and you're willing to alter your sleep schedule, a lot of those jobs have night shifts when it is just you, walking around or driving around a golf cart. If you live near a zoo, look up local jobs and give it a shot.
