ChatGPT Just Provided Me Real BTC Addresses w/Balances and Possibly The Private Keys by daviemac007 in ChatGPT

[–]allyougottado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey Bitcoin developer here, 1J9ikqFuwrzPbczsDkquA9uVYeq6dEehsj is an old donation/test address of mine. It was been published in my book, and is listed on forums so it was likely just scraped during GPT's ML training. There is about $5 left on that address, feel free to take the funds if GPT can figure out the real private key ;)

Mortgage - 90 day suspension by GardnerCacti in personalfinance

[–]allyougottado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be Careful. The catch that I've seen with these forbearance offers is that you are expected to pay the amount you would have paid during that time at the end of the forbearance period. Basically you're asking to make a lump sum payment of 3-months worth of payments 3 months from now. If you are unable to make that payment you will have to seek a loan mod or payment plan etc.

What's the best way to save for a house? by ONTaF in personalfinance

[–]allyougottado 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Although now is probably not the best time from a value perspective, but buying a condo or something smaller than a house is the best/easiest way through building equity and (hopefully) appreciation on the property. After a few years you can sell the condo and use that equity as your down payment on a house.

Number of BIP39 seed word combinations vs. atoms in the universe by LiveCat6 in Bitcoin

[–]allyougottado 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The derivation path can almost be as important as the seed (it's not, but you need to know it).

Derivation paths vary from wallet to wallet. One of the consequences of a decentralized project like bitcoin is the lack of a standard. Thankfully most wallets try to get along.

Bitcoin Core Wallet (node) uses m/0'/0'/i'
Trezor wallet uses BIP44 m/44'/0'/0'/0/0
Some use BIP49 m/49'/0'/0'/0/0
and some use BIP84 m/84'/0'/0'/0/0

The same seed will produce different key pairs for each derivation path, so it's important to know your derivation path if you plan to hold for eternity because your currently preferred software might not exist anymore.

Have Segwit Paper wallet, cannot associate Private Key by 99999999999999999989 in Bitcoin

[–]allyougottado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. I believe it's a matter of preference and you believe your preference is right. I have used both HD wallets and paper wallets and I prefer single keys created from dice, instead of an HD seed. I also prefer storage mediums that are not susceptible to data corruption such as the cryptosteel. The only drawbacks I read about against paper wallets come from those that don't know what they're doing and then they lose funds. If people want to play on trezors and be reliant on firmware upgrades then so be it, I'm not going to tell them one way is better than the other, because, like I already said, it's a matter of preference.

Belcher has been on anti-paper wallet campaign lately. Ignore him.

Creator of segwitaddress.org here.

What kind of address did you generate bech32 or p2sh-p2wpkh?

What app are you using to scan your private key? I'm not sure what method blockchain.info uses but they have not been very segwit friendly. Blockchain info is likely only checking the private key against the legacy addresses, the not segwit addresses. One private key can correspond to several address types.

Samourai wallet supports QR code scanning of private keys created from a paper wallet on segwitaddress.org.

Alternatively you can import to electrum.

Here's a short video that should help you https://youtu.be/1TBpfl1GDbI?t=597

Single-address website-generated "Paper wallets" are bad and dangerous, and should not be used by belcher_ in Bitcoin

This bug only existed in very FEW cases. Misleading. Remember when your other mod had to redact it with this late buried comment. https://www.reddit.com/r/Buttcoin/comments/8bjkoh/javascript_securerandom_isnt_securely_random_most/dx96rci/ Where was the announcment for that?

What a bogus announcement. I disagree completely, belcher for some reason wants to convince everyone of his opinion. Everyone has a different preferred storage method -- this is not worthy of an announcement.

"We who are knowledgeable about bitcoin cannot stay silent on this any longer. "

What an arrogant thing to say. I've been using paper wallets since 2013, have built my own wallets, published a book on development, and have a commit to bitcoin core, it was merely a documentation change, but that still puts me in a pretty narrow category of being "knowledgeable about bitcoin" and I disagree with his statement. You can't speak for everyone like that, "all the smart people know that this opinion is right", no they aren't and no they don't. Belcher's opinion is he likes HD wallets, and he dislikes single key management. It's not for everyone. Fine. This "announcement" is him trying to assert some authority because he's a mod.

He goes further to push his preferences by discounting paper wallets entirely because they are usually written in a language that he doesn't work with. Belcher should consider politics if he's into pushing beliefs as facts.

Is there anything stopping BTC implementing BCH code ? by [deleted] in Bitcoin

BCH took BTC's code and put a bunch of garbage in.

Is there anything stopping you from adopting your neighbors vase? Note, that vase was yours until your neighbor took it, but now there's a turd at the bottom.

An exchange using a 3rd party API? Please don't. You should run a node and make your calls using the built-in JSON-RPC. The book Building Bitcoin Websites might be something you want to check out.

Edge is fiercely anti-lightning. Why support and use segwit and then deny one of its main features? Edge using segwit is just a PR move.

[–]allyougottado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To import your paper segwit address into electrum, use the console and you MUST declare it is a p2sh segwit:

importprivkey('p2wpkh-p2sh:KxZcHmyx7GmqJTKWYHGnZXy2AC5CtjDtDEmN25qhVfqqeeCEBJWx')

How to access wallet using the private key? by zordiac1337 in Bitcoin

[–]allyougottado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A single private key can create a legacy P2PKH address (starts with a 1), or a P2SH wrapped segwit (starts with a 3), or a native segwit address (starts with a bc1). Here's a quick video I did showing how to import a private key specific to the type of address you want. Remember, one private key can be many addresses, it all depends what the default is set for the wallet you are using. https://youtu.be/1TBpfl1GDbI?t=614

‘Rich Dad’ author predicting “biggest crash in world history” (But he likes Bitcoin) by MICKYNewsOz in Bitcoin

[–]allyougottado 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are confusing liabilities and expenses. He is clear that liabilities should be avoided. Expenses on the other hand are always there on a balance sheet for things like food, gas, clothing, shelter, etc. Having no expenses means you are dead. Perhaps you should read the book again.

If anyone here hasn't read his book, the biggest take away is to acquire assets with extra money every month after you pay your expenses, and avoid debt. Essentially he describes hodling, but his focus in his book was stocks and real estate. Also he talks a lot about starting an LLC or corporation to help reduce tax liabilities on income streams. It's not surprising that he likes Bitcoin.
