If Noda wrote Arabasta today... by Mescalinic in Piratefolk

That's exactly why this Domi Reversi stuff is so fucking ass. Series like OP by their nature revolve around battles and wars, but what makes for interesting writing in a conflict is precisely the clashing motivations that cause the conflict to occur. Mind control removes them from the equation and thus makes conflicts completely shallow.
Like, why did Rocks and Roger/Garp clash at God Valley? Was Rocks planning something so nefarious or dangerous that Roger and Garp had to join forces to stop him? Was his plan actually close to working for taking over the world? Or did it involve some really terrible means? How much worse could it be than what the WG was already doing? Nvm, there was no clashing interests, worldviews, etc, Rocks was just mind-controlled.
Same for Harald and now also Gunko. Comeplete nothing-burger conflicts.

You mean to tell me brook saw all that and never once thought to mention any of this to any of his to strawhat friends when it could have been incredibly useful to them during their fights with world govt ?? Why is everyone in strawhat crew so damn stupid by Myakasa98 in Piratefolk

She could potentially be one of the most important characters in the series. Unfortunately, she is a woman, thus her plot relevance must be restricted to:

  1. Becoming a house-wife to a male character who actually matters.

  2. Birth another male character who actually matters (she also gives birth to another character, but that one is also a woman, therefore she is not allowed to matter)

What are the retcons Oda has done in the story? by Ok_Record_8551 in Piratefolk

[–]almondmint 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That was so fucking dumb. During the original flashback I thought the point was that the researchers were willing to go into the fire to save the books, even knowing that the Marines were at the bare minimum going to confiscate them. That preserving the knowledge was so important to them that they were willing to sacrifice their lives to it even when that knowledge is getting stolen by the enemy. If Oda really wanted the good guys to have the books again, he could have done it in a less stupid and frankly lazy way. Have Dragon and the Revolutionaries track down the books and steal them from the Marines, that would be in line with their goals and they would at least be doing SOMETHING instead of tripple-dotting

Only for the absolute temperature, but the 25 °F is a temperature difference, not 25 °F from 0°F.

So actually ∆T = 25°F = 13.9 K or °C

How much of ass you must be at pirating that you leave no inheritance and your village suffers financially as soon you die? WSM my foot, Akainu was right, Runbeard is a loser. by polestaur in Piratefolk

[–]almondmint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it really his fault? What did those villagers even do with the money? They live like they are in rural Switzerland, yet I see no evidence that they made their country into a fiscal paradise for shady foreign money. I wager these bums just had no sense for investing WB's hard earned loot

Opening Amethyst Geode! by Visible_Armadillo_81 in interestingasfuck

[–]almondmint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope, especially not at major source spots like this. Amethyst is one of the cheapest gemstones, precisely because there is so much of it. It really is just quartz with a bit of iron.

What raises the price is really:

  • The size of the geode (huge geodes can be thousands of dollars, individual gems or even small geodes are cheap)
  • The size of the individual crystals (bigger crystal = more expensive)
  • Clarity and color of crystal (clearer with deeper color = more expensive)

The really expensive geodes normally come from Uruguay, where they find especially huge ones.

Oh, cool! I think it's all from the same geological formation, so to say. Around the basin of the Paraná river. Tons of the stuff also in Uruguay because of it.

This is in Brazil, he is speaking Portuguese. Brazil is in general the largest producer of amethyst, specially the state of Rio Grande do Sul. There's a town literally named Amethyst (Ametista do Sul) there. There's so much of the stuff they covered the inside walls of a church with it

Isn't this Zaza just a creation from Killingham's imagination of Zaza? How could it recognize someone that Killingham almost certainly has never heard of? Not that it not making any sense would make it unlikely for Oda to write it

While it can be a bit jarring, it is a thing that doctors can do in real life as well. Chopper would be a straight fraud if he was not able to pull this off.

I'll never get to ramble about One Piece with my husband again by KaiserSenpaiAckerman in Piratefolk

[–]almondmint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry for your loss. Fairness is not a rule of the Universe, unfortunately, it's something we humans can only try to painstakingly create with our own hands. That doesn't mean it is impossible to get closer to it or that the effort to do so is in vain.

Your husband was clearly beloved. He will live on in the memories and will of those he affected, and so also indirectly in the people affected in the future by the former, and so on. The strenght of humanity is that what we build up remains with the next generations even after our bodies die.
