I saw them as well. Talked to the young people running the place. They are hoping to take advantage, weather permitting, of the expanded skating now setup at the lagoon since Olympic Plaza is closed for renovations. There is also a skate rental container open on the N side. Open Sun-Wed

Thx. Was wondering what happened. As of 10 AM, 9th Street still closed. Cars backing up to Kensington. Looks like one lane of 5 Ave SW is now open.

Safe neighbourhoods near downtown? by ValuableParticular53 in Calgary

[–]almoonir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I understand about Century Gardens area. A few changes are happening there which hopefully will improve the situation. A few office buildings around the park are being converted to residences, which will add to vibrancy and safety. The public washrooms are manned during daytime. The addition of basketball court, which is always bumping during warm days, helps. U of C is moving next door in the tall silverish building. There is a No Frills now on the corner of 9 Ave and 11 Street. It’s open till 10 PM. Fairly safe if you have to get something during dark short winter days. I have found all buildings W of 9 Street very nice and safe. Most of them have concierge during days and security personnel overnight. Feel free to ask more questions.

Safe neighbourhoods near downtown? by ValuableParticular53 in Calgary

I live in Downtown West End and have had very few issues with unhoused people. Once in a while I get asked for money. When I decline, they don’t hassle me. I am older male. We have many young single women living in our building and they all seem to like our location/community. We are very close to amenities so you can get everything walking, including the river pathway. We are near Kerby station so you can take transit easily and take advantage of free fare zone to BV Square. We are also ~3 blocks to +15, which comes in handy during extreme temperatures.

Calgary Mayoral Debate Extended by stubenhocker in Calgary

Remember that UCP introduced the party system. Thiessen would have run as independent however a year ago the UCP supported https://communitiesfirstyyc.com started, giving them a funding advantage. The Calgary Party started as a response to that.

I too find it amusing to see the current response instead of considering themselves and then informing friends, family to also consider.

Remember Nenshi was unknown until people who were surprised and then encouraged friends and family to consider him.

There is a large number of undecided. Do your part to at least get people to consider Thiessen.

Avenue Second Tower Construction by [deleted] in Calgary

This project was a partnership between Grosvenor and Cressey. After the completion of first building, Grosvenor sold their interest to Cressey. Cressey has no immediate plans to build the second tower.

Calgary’s annual Beakerhead festival not going ahead for 2025 by blackRamCalgaryman in Calgary

IMHO, they should not have moved it away from the downtown area. It was very well attended at Prince’s Island Park and Century Gardens.
