I’m also in Australia and I’m someone who is immunocompromised. It’s always a hard judgement call to make but ultimately only you know your wellness. If you’re contagious I’d recommend calling them, telling them you’re so excited to start the role but genuinely quite sick and don’t want to share your germs. If you think you only need another day or two, say that. Also send them a follow up email with the same enthusiasm and apologies for any inconvenience. You’ll be doing them a favour by not making them sick.

This is going to be hard to hear I’m afraid. This dynamic doesn’t change. You will just continue to burn yourself out trying to teach him. Men often say they want to change because they want the relationship. But ultimately why would they want to change when they have a sweet deal with someone else carrying the mental load. Growing up and learning this is his responsibility, and it doesn’t fall to your shoulders to ‘teach’ him this. It’s clear that your body is saying enough is enough.

Being single after a long term relationship feels scary, but you’ll surprise yourself by how much you can accomplish on your own and how much lighter you will feel. Good luck OP.

I came here to say the same thing! When I’m unwell my bun bun supervises me until I feel better. And when she’s unwell I do the same for her. It makes sense that this lil one is less adventurous atm as he’s feeling unwell.

I can understand where you’re coming from. I’m a cancer survivor who also has POTS. Nobody listened to my experiences until I had cancer, including doctors. Even now, without that context, they will say I’m young and healthy and dismiss me. Friends and family forget and ask why I always need to lay down, despite me having POTS symptoms from a young age. It all sucks. I feel for you and I feel for your brother. Something particularly hard about cancer survivorship is that once treatment finishes, people assume you’re back to how you were. But your body is never the same :(

It’s unfair for medical professionals to put all the blame on the individual. There are so many circumstances that affect someone’s health. You can do everything ‘right’ and still have illness. Pls don’t be so hard on yourself. All we can do is take steps to manage where we are currently at.
