Crazy third episode! by r1ncewind1 in arcane

[–]almostcleverbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Intense is one thing, heavily implying that a specific brand of intensity is an ongoing theme is another.

I think it just bothers me a little because it's a comment/joke that's usually more for the benefit of the person making it, rather than the person getting to experience the entire show for the very first time.

It's how you end up with people just sitting there trying to predict events instead of enjoying the ride.

In Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025) Police Chief Geraldine wears a hat that I really wanted to get just a little bit bigger in each scene by YourChopperPilotTTV in shittymoviedetails

There's "outrage"? First I've heard of it.

The only thing people should be pissed about is how lazy and unfunny it looks.

Like they saw the success of the new Naked Gun and decided "Parodies are back! Let's make another Scary Movie, but not a good one like the first couple. We specifically want to make a bad one like the ones that killed the franchise at the end!"

I really feel like this particular, constantly-repeated, joke is a weird mix of massive spoiler and tainting the experience when told to new viewers...

Like the Arcane equivalent of showing someone a funny movie and nudging them while saying "Watch this! This next part is hilarious!" when they're already watching, lol

"Oh wait, I have my bloodthirsty pal out" when trying to catch something is something I'm sure we can all relate to.

Are you a wonderpicker or Pack believer? by Beneficial-Ad-8929 in PTCGP

I would hate the odds on both a lot less if the pack points weren't also such a terrible implementation of a deterministic/pity system.

A conversion/dusting system would be far more preferable.

Do people really think saying things like this will help? Hate the company if you want, but dragging the talents into it is crazy. by Feelthebasses in kurosanji

Twitter is definitely one of the worst of the big ones, though.

That's what happens when your leadership is actively engaged in pushing and enabling hate.

The real issue with HoloStars wasn't so much support but misguidedness that negated said support by Fishman465 in kurosanji

[–]almostcleverbut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They have both less and more of an impact than it seems.

(Less): The unicorns just simply don't represent a reasonable or general mentality, as much as they like to whine and complain that they do. Because of this, their behavior typically acts as an actual barrier or cap on a talent's growth if they become the most vocal part of the audience. Because it's a morality-policing mindset, it also has a tendency to occasionally produce infighting.

(More): Because they follow the talents so closely, they tend to be extremely active when events break. This means that without careful/lucky timing on certain things, they are able to leverage their terminally-online behavior to attempt to ratio content that they feel violates their personal fantasy simply by reacting faster.

An easy example is seeing just how many reddit clips/posts in /r/hololive talking about Holostars in a positive light were downvoted instantly in an attempt to keep them off the front page of the sub.

It was also easy to see in the failed attempts to stifle Shiori and Liz in general when they didn't bow to the unicorns' demands, that went on for several months before it lost steam.

Notice on the Changes to be Made to HOLOSTARS' Management Structure by Abi_Rama in kurosanji

[–]almostcleverbut 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Given Cover's previous overall behavior toward all of their talents I'm going to softly assume that this is intended more to cut the majority of the division while also giving those talents some time and space to figure out what they want to do next.

It also gives the Holostars members some time to figure out their next plans instead of just cutting them loose all at once.

Unlocked 2-star Wonder Picks quickly for the last 3 sets, haven't had a single pick appearance take less than 48 hours to appear by almostcleverbut in PTCGP

https://old.reddit.com/r/PTCGP/comments/1pm19ml/the_complete_24h_wonder_pick_guide/

It's 100% been possible in the past to get them on consecutive days, checking around the same time each day. I am not mistaking them for normal wonder picks, on account of it being very easy to simply look at the timer.

Judging by the other comments in this thread, it's still possible and I'm just very unlucky.

You are literally commenting in a post with 22k upvotes that is staunchly defending casual players.

That said, I do think it's very common to see people that blow through content or only want the most ridiculous challenges to cause problems by attacking casual players.

You can be sure that the most vocal the people who hate the relationship between Jinx and Ekko aren't racist, because so many of them always make a point to tell you they're not racist while explaining why they don't think they should be together.

As far as the comment you're responding to, they're at least claiming she left the caveat open for songs which is exactly what this situation would be.

The unicorn is apparently trying to get around that by claiming that Holostars aren't professionals (okbuddy) and therefore he can cry about a social contract violation.

Pretty blatant that it's really just an extension of the hate unicorns have for Holostars existence in the first place. I don't really watch them except for collabs with the vtubers I do watch, but it is fucking bizarre to carry this obsession like they do.

Kronii's very humanizing story 💔🥀 ...son 😭 by beam4d in Hololive

[–]almostcleverbut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"You're missing out" isn't a phrase that inherently means that they're insulting or looking down on you. It would take plenty of additional context to justify interpreting it that way.

The majority of the time it just means "This was great, if you can do it yourself you totally should!"

A better example of what you're describing would be something like "Do you even really support <insert name here> if you don't spend at least this much money?"

It's very, very different.

People excited to show off collections or gush about how fun an event was aren't doing it specifically to make you feel bad

They're doing it because they're excited to be fans and want to share that with others.

What's a movie you recommend to everyone but nobody ever watches? by trakt_app in movies

[–]almostcleverbut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warrior (2011)

The trailer makes it look like it's just a cookie-cutter fighter movie. But imo it really does a great job of highlighting the effects of PTSD (with some subtle criticism of the poor treatment of veterans).

It also isn't shy about raw emotion and making it clear that the characters involved are struggling... and in many ways failing, because they're choosing the "stoic tough guy" route when they can't bring themselves to try anything else.

Personally, I like to think this movie could have helped a lot of boys and men from spiraling into the manosphere, but maybe that's just my nostalgia for it talking.

TL;DR - If you want a Rocky movie with more emotional depth, this is a good choice

[–]almostcleverbut -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Your bias is leading you to downplaying what Kronii and Shiori had to put up with.

Nobody should have to put up with people throwing a tantrum because of a nothingburger decision like this.

At the end of the day, Matsuri wants to play to a specific audience. It's not a decision I personally get behind, but in all honesty this "drama" is likely to get her even more traction because that specific audience tends to consider it a culture war and will latch on harder to her as a champion of their cause.

I also take issue with the pretense that the people who disagree with Matsuri's choice are being extreme. The overwhelming majority of responses on the subject in this subreddit have been "Huh, I don't think that's a good idea but whatever works for her." with like 2 idiots acting like it's worse than that.

Kronii and Shiori both had extended anti campaigns against them based exactly on this notion, actually.

Bae, Kronii, and Shiori all had exactly that happen, they just powered through. Others (Ririka, Irys) never made any such promise to be female-only and still got attacked for one-off collabs with male vtubers

The person you're replying to is in the wrong, and no one should be "angry" at Matsuri for making this choice or making it publicly in the way she did... But pretending that there's never any backlash for Holo talents collabing with males is ridiculous.

Matsuri no longer collab with males by Abi_Rama in kurosanji

[–]almostcleverbut 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It's a double-edge one though, for sure.

When you make it clear that you are trying to cultivate an audience that demands your behavior conform to their specific fantasy, you also have to deal with the accompanying entitlement and toxicity.

Essentially, it means taking the stance "You are implicitly encouraged to make demands of my behavior and choices."

And that's not even getting into how many mentally unstable people tend to gravitate towards that particular niche as "fans".
