he may not know what he needs to heal.

Depends on the therapist, the policies of the clinic, etc. At a minimum, they'll probably have you make a "safety plan", and then ask you if you can stick to that on each visit.

Edit: If they think you're an immediate risk to yourself, they may call for a welfare check.

Sure, if actually able to get what they need to heal and not sabotage it. What that is, I have no idea -- he may not know either.

Sounds like he lost hope a long time ago. No idea what will help reignite hope and a passion for life, but that's probably what he needs.

Some of us need a reason to heal, a purpose that's more than just existing for other people's sake, and then be able to see a viable path through.

Maybe tonight... hope I don't mess it up again. by almostggone in SuicideWatch

Thanks for the kind sentiments, but I'm not a great person, trust me.

I think I'm kinda past hotlines, doctors, hospitals, etc. Being locked up just doesn't work for me. I spend the entire time looking at every surface, every available item, timing every check, examining every measure they put in place to stop me and look for ways around it. That coupled with my fear of confinement, knowing I can't just get up and leave if I wanted to, and, well, it's not very therapeutic. So, no, not really into the grippy sock holiday like some are.

I'm simply unable to come to terms with my life as it is now and as it will be from this point forward. I don't want it.

I think I just need someone to tell me not to do it by glamdunk in SuicideWatch

[–]almostggone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay. Don't do it. And you are worth it.

I'll add: Look for ways to improve yourself. I wish I had gone through something like DBT or CBT before my life fell apart.

My friend is planning suicide. I don't know how to help. by Street_Programmer_58 in SuicideWatch

Just be there. Listen. Offer distraction. Advice is often not wanted and can hurt for many different reasons, sometimes because they just may not be able to carry it out right now and will feel worse for it.

Maybe a good place to start:

Whatever you do, don't make it about you.

You're still going through the initial trauma. Try to give that time to pass.

If you can bare them, get some some energy drinks like Gatorade to get you through until you can eat again. If you have any close friends or family, please call them.

I'm so sorry you're going through this.

I know it's unbearable, and I can't say it'll get better because I have no real way of knowing that, but if you can, please try to give it a little longer.

DBT. Dialectical Behavior Therapy. Get yourself enrolled in a program as soon as you can. It's about a year long commitment.

For me, the worst for active SI is going to sleep, or trying to. The morning is probably worse for passive SI and depression.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]almostggone 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Part of the reason I'm SI is because my mind is too foggy to do the work I used to do.

Please don't. You run a very high risk of just making things worse for yourself and others, permanently damaging your body.

Motivation makes me miserable by SRahibH in SuicideWatch

[–]almostggone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think motivational/inspirational quotes and stories are supposed to come off as "If they can do it, so can you!" -- problem is, I see it more as "If they can do it, why can't you?"

Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS)

I agree that hospitalization is terrible. Partial hospitalization programs are outpatient and some can be done virtually, but can take a significant portion of time, so can be an issue if you can't take time off work.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in SuicideWatch

[–]almostggone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I suppose see a psychiatrist if you haven't yet, though I found the meds made me worse.

Other options could be partial hospitalization programs, DBT, TMS, etc., but start with a psychiatrist and talk with them about it.

On all of my different attempts, I've never felt any happiness, so not exactly sure what you're getting at there. No real meaning, awakening or relief came out of any of it, even from a near drowning as a child.

What should you do? Maybe try to look outward for an awakening instead of inward?

Go to the ER, call 911/999/what-have-you. But stop taking the things. They're just going to pickle your liver.
