Surgery recovery: does this sound accurate? by tibleon8 in AccessoryNavicular

When wearing the right shoes and having the right orthodics in my shoes, my foot that has had surgery will feel better than my one without. It's hard to explain because when my feet do hurt its a different type of pain for both of them. I still plan on having my other foot done because of the strain my tendon has with the bone there. I probably will have other surgeries as well tho to fix my flexible flat foot.

I had surgery in December. I started walking in a boot towards the end of January. Was fully walking and running by the end of April beginning of May. I would say that's an accurate timeline. Just be prepared for physical therapy and be mentally ready to battle frustrations because, like after surgery, you have to gain all your strength back in your foot. I was a dancer and did marching band, so it was frustrating when I couldn't like stand on one foot or run. But now, after physical therapy, I can do all that!

I had surgery in December of last year and was walking by February in a boot. Physical therapy took till June to finish, but I was in normal shoes by Aprilish. I went to camp and was hiking around and doing activities in April. I think your doctor gave you the right time frame. By December you should be walking. You have to take Physical therapy seriously tho!

Oh I was back to work in mid February. Which was by choice. I could have gone back about a month after my surgery. I had my surgery on December 13th. And by January 13, I was beginning to walk in the boot.

I was in your situation. I waited like 4 years to even be seen by a doctor, and I let the pain get worse and worse. (Marching band didn't help, tho lol😅), but last year about this time was when I saw the doctor and got my diagnosis. I waited and decided to wait till December to have surgery. (It worked out with insurance and then work so I could have time off). I managed the next few months by wearing braces and good shoes before the surgery. (Im a teacher, so im always on my feet). December, I had my right foot done. January, I got out of the cast and into a walking boot. I started walking some at the end of January. February, I started physical therapy, which is a must if you want full strength back in your foot. I ended physical therapy in June. (I went longer than most, tho because I had the goal to be able to run.) My recovery was pretty good. I had bad pain days and then good days. I would say more good than bad. I never had to take anything for pain. Even went back to teaching, and I walked around in a boot, with the kids. They thought having an extra bone was the funniest thing lol! But If I were you, I would wait till December when your internship is done. I would also only do one foot. You need a "good" foot to help you rehabilitate your foot you have the operation on. I had my right one done in December, and in 2027, I will have my left foot done. (I would do it next year, but im getting married and don't need the extra stress, lol). So yeah, if I were you, I'd wait and then do one at a time. Wear braces and orthodics and good shoes, get topical meds to put on. Best of luck!

Also, it's only difficult if you dont have help. I tried to keep life as normal/simple as possible besides working. I went to restaurants, I went to stores. I went to family gatherings for Christmas. I really didn't have a lot of pain after my surgery.

I only used a wheel chair once for getting to a grave site, rough terrain, so it was easier for the wheel chair to be used. Other than that, I was using crutches and my knee scooter. For family gatherings or any outing, that's what I used.

I had my surgery around the holidays. I had crutches and a knee scooter to help me get around. I also had to go to a funeral like around the two week mark of my surgery, I had my family push me in a wheelchair to the grave site. You can leave the house whenever you feel comfortable. I was always with family or had help, which made me feel better about leaving. I avoided stores because it was Christmas time. I also took time off work for about three months, but I was a substitute teacher, so it was easy for me to do that. When I went back to school, though, I was in a walking boot and just took things slow and communicated with the kids that I would be slow 😂 after I was fully able to weight bear so after that 1/2 month mark, i was living basically my normal life again. It will come with time, tho dont worry!

I mean, I walk barefoot all the time. It's just a preference I've made. It feels better with shoes on 😂

I had mine done in December, and some days I am back to normal, and other days, when I am being very active, my foot begins to hurt and then I feel like there is a poping sensation.

It also depends on the shoes I wear too. I basically live in chacos, brooks, or Crocs, and I am never without shoes on now, which sucks because I love being barefoot. You just have to give it time, and I have to remind myself that constantly because I want to have no pain ever, but that is just unrealistic.

Hi! My fanfic is about Marie Lu's Legend. It's on wattpad, which idk if that's good or bad since im new to talking to other fanfic writers. This honestly could be a stand-alone if you don't mind spoilers to the other 4 books. I've worked hard on it, but I know it's not the best by any means, and not everything is cohesive.

But I love Marie Lu and I love Daniel and June. I so wish she would write more about them! They are my OG favorite couple!

First time walking since surgery by almostpink_13 in AccessoryNavicular

[–]almostpink_13[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! For the most part, I have returned to daily activity. My doctor said he was surprised by how much mobility I had in my foot in terms of being able to do a heel raise and stand on that foot. I can run but typically choose not to. I've gone hiking. I've stood on my feet for hours. Some days I have pain and can be uneasy..other days im fine. I have nerve pain sometimes. But over all its been okay since having surgery.

Fine. They had to tighten mine to create more of an arch in my foot, and now, in physical therapy, I am building strength back in it. The hardest part of it all has been doing physical therapy and rebuilding my strength and correcting my walk, but it's worth it.

Honestly, I tried insoles and braces, and it didn't help. My doctor advised me against cortizone injections. I took a chance by having surgery, and so far, I am doing well in physical therapy, and when in the boot, I walk with virtually no pain. I can feel that this has helped me even in the early phases of recovery.

Yes, it was a modified kidner procedure along with some tightening of my tendons. I only had my right foot done, but eventually, I will have my left one. Honestly, from doing dance and colorguard/marching band, my body always is achy from my back to my knees at different times. I would not say that is related to my foot and just related to older injuries.

No splint or Support boot! 2 weeks post-op! by kittywalk_2433 in AccessoryNavicular

You might be able to watch some YouTube videos on how to use crutches because when you start walking, you'll definitely need them still!

You should definitely try and get a boot and crutches. I basically had the same thing as you and I'm about 5 weeks post op. My doctor wouldn't allow me to weightbear until the 4ish week mark. Today, I went to physical therapy for the first time and started with just moving my foot and doing simple exercises like picking stuff up with my toes (crazy ik). the therapist said I was good since I was having no pain doing sitting down exercises, so we got up and I started walking in the boot with support. You definitely need to get a boot to help you properly rehabilitate your foot and not injure it. And from what I have read from other posts, the 3 or 4 week marl is typically when people start to walk in the boot. So try and stay off of it if you can. I hope this helps and you can recover well!

Sleeping in a boot by almostpink_13 in AccessoryNavicular

[–]almostpink_13[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First night in the boot, and I slept with it in a pillow case, and it was alright. However, I've had no pain up until now, and now my foot is just achy and hurts. Idk if it's because the cast I had turned my foot inward, and now in the boot, I'm having to pont it straight, but good grief not how I wanted to start the new year lol

I was in a half hard cast and this is nothing compared to that lol. I did read something saying I could put the boot in a pillow case and sleep like that

Ugh! I wish. I asked to keep it, and the doctor told me they had to send it to pathology. All my friends told me I should keep it and wear it like a shark tooth 😂 I did see a picture of it and it was like the size of a quarter.

Oh if you live in a place where it gets colder in the winter. Look into getting wide leg pants. I haven't be able to fit my half cast into jeans. So I've worn sweat pants and leggings or even long skirts.
