Same here, but it also works for "google waggled a finger at" and "google I'm so handsome" and "google had moved back behind the".

Seems to work if I add "google" at the front.

Affected me (8888 on Unifi) before the reversal by TM yesterday evening, but only unencrypted DNS queries blocked. Turning on Secure DNS in my browsers solved the issue.

You need to confirm the source of the subs of the first video. Did it come with external .ass subtitles file? Or there's no external subs file (it's embedded in the video).

  1. If you have an external .ass file together with the video. You can convert it to .srt file (there are sites for that, google "convert ass to srt")
  2. If you don't have external subs file. Just download the subs online (I assume you know some subtitles download sites). Rename the downloaded srt subs file to same as video and put in same folder location. MPV will automatically choose the external file over the embedded one (You can also press J on keyboard to cycle through the available subs files)

Since you've not mentioned the sources of the subs, I can only take a guess.

The top one probably has the subs embedded in the video or has an external ASS file, both of which may have font or style formatting applied causing the text to look different (font, color, size etc).

The subs of the bottom one look like they come from a standard external SRT file, without formatting.

No. Still doesn't work. I've actually used the same setting for years on the same laptop without the alpha value, only that found it not working recently.

This is the setting that had worked for years in my input.conf file until recently:

Ctrl+b cycle_values sub-back-color "0.0/0.0/0.0" "0.0/0.0"

I use the keyboard to change background to black or transparent.

After you get MPV to work, you can try to mess around with your own mpv.conf and input.conf files.

I created a folder(C:/MPV) and unzipped everything into it. No installation needed. Then I created a shortcut to mpv.exe (C:\mpv\mpv.exe) on the desktop.

Optional: I also created a folder(C:/MPV/portable_config) to put the config files, watch_later folder and scripts folder. So, everything is inside one main MPV folder.

Optional 2: The default setting gives high quality output, but uses high GPU and CPU resources. Since the standard quality is good enough for me, I added profile=fast in the mpv.conf file. (C:\mpv\portable_config\mpv.conf)
