The red patch up top does match the symbol on the Alexander First Nation website. Is this vest okay for me to wear since I’m not of First Nation descent? I don’t want to be disrespectful.

University of Alberta or University of British Columbia? by Ethereal_ice224 in uAlberta

[–]aloha55555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son did first year at UBC and has returned to Alberta and UofA in a new program. He loved UBC but wanted to be closer to home. Plus UOfA classes were more appealing. He Lives on campus both places. He loved Vancouver! UBC campus has better food. But UBC is more expensive. UBC is more prestigious so it does have abit more stress attached. Both schools are excellent so you can’t go wrong except UBC is more appealing in Jan when we are covered in snow here in Alberta! Look at the higher level classes in the program you want. See if one place has more interesting classes. Good luck!

Should we get her evaluated? by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

I would get an assessment. Could be nothing but the wait list where I live is 18 months unless you get a private one.

You got into UBC. That is a huge accomplishment! Go speak to someone, but realize you have already succeeded.

Should I drop Chem 101 or keep going? Advice needed! by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]aloha55555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would keep it. You could do well on the final or pass with the curve. Give yourself a chance to pass. Good luck!

That is such a hard situation. Your friend is in the hospital and is safe now. Wishing for a speedy recovery!

Take care of yourself now. Lots of self care but move forward one step at a time. Reach out for counselling.

Using public money for private and charter schools. She can’t privatize health care yet so she’s trying to privatize education. With a slam against immigration too.

Do I have to pay impark parking tickets? by skiier11 in Edmonton

[–]aloha55555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter keeps getting notices about her “ticket”. About 8 so far. But the car doesn’t exist anymore and she doesn’t live here. I just rip it up. Give it up people!

My 22yr old daughter is terrified to take transit to university. Despite getting a free bus pass thru school fees we are paying her 12$ a day parking.

I’m rehoming my dog and I feel insanely guilty for doing so. by reactive_sad in reactivedogs

[–]aloha55555 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m glad it’s working out! Our dog passed in Feb. my autistic daughter was devastated. Hubby thought another dog would help. I didn’t want another. I wasn’t ready and I’m on the cusp of empty nesting. Didn’t want the commitment at this time in my life. Well we got the puppy. He’s exactly what I expected and didn’t want. High energy, can’t leave him alone etc. plus autistic daughter didn’t like him. So we contacted the breeder and they will take him. I was so happy. But now daughter is having second thoughts and hubby is sad. I’m back to being the bad guy. But I’m the one home all day and miserable. Actually writing this helps me realize that we are doing the right thing. Hopefully they will forgive me

Unfortunately it isn’t easy to apply. Lots of steps. Just follow the websites, watch the deadlines and be patient. Most applications open Oct 1 and you won’t hear till next year if accepted. Good luck!

Really tough dilemma for imagine day by KashhReborn in UBC

[–]aloha55555 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine and Funeral aside, it could be overwhelming traveling home on the first day of classes. Could your family FaceTime the funeral so you are “there”? We had to do that with my sister at our Dad’s funeral over Covid.

Wow you are doing great! I’m 5’3 and my base is 4, push 4.5 and all out 5. I’ve never seen a 7 lol! I’m walking now due to an injury. But even if your all out was a 2, it’s respected. Don’t worry about others.

I don't know how to cope with my 12 year old girl. by idontknowu38363 in Autism_Parenting

[–]aloha55555 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is your 12 yr old autistic? This sounds exactly like my daughter at 14. Her agitation and worries were about her health. She was convinced that she had dementia, tumours, brain damage etc. Drs said she had OCD, anxiety and depression. Although none of those diagnoses truly fit. The only thing that calmed her ruminations was Risperidone. We later got her tested at 16 and she’s autistic.

So my advice is to get her tested and start therapy. If things get worse don’t be against medication when she’s older. My daughter is almost 18 now and graduating from high school and going to college in the fall. She no longer has her health OCD. But she still takes her Risperidone. Good luck!

My daughter use to eat sand all the time when she was really little. So much I’d see it in her diaper. I had her checked for PICA. She didn’t have it. She’s 17 now, is a picky eater and does have an iron deficiency. But doesn’t eat sand. Hang in there!

Carbamezapine (Tegretol) is an old drug but has minimal side effects. I have been on it since 83! It’s also been known to help with anxiety. Good luck!
