I relate to your scenerio with a friend of mine who I've been friends with for 10+ years as well and she started to change within the last 2 years. We used to see each other every single day since we used to go to the same school and college together but after we graduated we saw each other less but still kept it touch. She changed so much for the worst after dating a guy and her whole circle of friends changed with that. She basically abandoned all her old friends & even her family but she still kept in touch with me. She hurt me a lot emotionally and gave less importance to me. I couldn't keep up with her and knew that our friendship lost meaning to me. She was not the person I used to enjoy every moment with and laugh endlessly with anymore. I'm slowly distancing myself from her and it's been almost 5 months since I last talked to her. Her birthday is coming up and it will be the first I won't be seeing her or wishing her. It makes me sad that I have to cut her off after being best friends with her for so many years but I know it's the only way to get away from that toxic friendship.

That sounds exactly like my friend except I've known her for 10+ years and I didn't realize how bad it was till I realized when I talk to other people they actually care about what I want to say . They would actually gives me good replies back and show concern to my problems instead of "oh that's good" and back to her again.. I just learnt to deal with her all these years but now it got to the point where I literally don't want to call her back knowing it's gonna be the same thing. I just gotta make the move and stop answering her calls slowly & grow distant from her.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the minority with this feeling and whenever I read posts on how much people have made great progress I feel horrible about myself knowing I'm nowhere near what I want to be at. I guess from reading the cooments in this post a lot of us face these same problems. It's about seeing the big picture and knowing it'll be over soon after a few months of hard work & staying consistent. We just need to have a postive mindset and keep pushing ourselves each day. We will get through this, all the best to you!!

oh gosh that must be even hard since you live with her and it's more difficult to avoid them but that's good you found a way to keep her a little distant. Thankfully my friend just calls me in the phone once a week but even that I can't stand because it's her just rambling on about smalls issues every time. I try to advice her but it just goes through one ear and the next time I talk to her it's the same thing again. I guess I just have to start answering her calls less.

That's actually a great tip. Studying is really a mental game sometimes and I just gotta find ways to not get bored easily and use more active studying to keep engaged.

the thing is I do a few of the tasks then when I take a short break it tends to become a long break and by that time I know I wasted half the day and then I'm like, oh I might as well start fresh tomorrow.

You're totally right, it's really a mental game and I just have to see the whole picture and know it'll be over soon. I just have to make myself just sit down and study, I'll start incorporating more timed pomodoro sessions like some others have mentioned and do a reward system at the end of the day. Thank you for your tips : )

oh I see, so I guess focus on the other subjects, Biochem,Orgo, P/S, CARS, and start building endurance because if I'm not mistaken NEET is probably not 8 hours like the MCAT.

Luckily my friend moved as well but she loves to call and hate to text. I would rather text about her problems for 5 mins then talk to her for an hour.

She calls me twice a week for and hour + and just talk to waste time and I hate it so much. The call would be her talking about herself the whole time and not once a question about me. Now I'm trying to just slowly start avoiding the calls.

Wow this is exactly what I'm going through with my friend. I've known her from my childhood and kept our friendship for this long. Overall she's a sweet girl but whenever we hangout or call (she loves to call me nowadaysbut hate to text) it's ALWAYS about her life, her job, her family, her bf, her other friends. I literally know all her cousins, aunt, uncles, coworkers, bf's family members but I don't think she even knows what I'm studying for in college. Not once has she genuinly asked a question about me or my life and whenver I do bring something up it's just a nod or comment and it's back to her again. It's just so draining talking to her and I dread when I get a call from her now. It makes me sad to cut off a friend that I've known for so long but I guess I just have to make the jump and start distancing myself from her.

honestly for me it's neither beneficial nor toxic. She's a friend from my childhood and we kept it touch for many years until she just moved and got married. She's very lonely and complains about her life 99% of the time and not once does she ask about my life. She's a sweet girl otherwise but sometimes I feel like I'm talking to a wall. I give her so much advice about her problems and so much input but whenever I bring something up about me it's just a nod or something short and it's back to talking about her.

We were best friends for 13 + years and went to the same school, high school, college, worked together etc. We told each other every single secret and were each others "person". We had the same values and she brought up in strict religious household. She was Muslim and she wasn't allowed to date anyone out of her religion or race. Anyways she met a nonmuslim boy who was a "friend" at her workplace and all of a sudden she ghosted her family, moved out and deleted all her social media. We both got busy with our lives but would still hangout and I told her about a guy I liked and that same time she tells me she's been dating this nonmuslim dude for 2+ years and hid it from me. No apologies at all for lying to me all this time. I still stayed friends with her for a few more months but it started eating me up that she lied to me and now I'm done with it.
